I'll admit it first, this is actually an assignment question. I need to write a report on a new idea or concept to help improve the current state of e-learning in terms of usability, desirability, etc. I'm not asking for you help to write my report, just some ideas will do. I'll start off from there. Anybody care to share some based on experience?

C# tcp/ip socket sending

Anybody can help me?
I'm trying to start an app with a loopback connection to lets say port 9999 to be able to send msgs through the port. I don't need the listening and unnecessary stuff, just sending will do.

In other words, I'm trying to send a message through this 127.0.0.1:9999.
And yes in c#, just some simple codes will do, as I need this to help debug another app I'm developing.

Been long since I played around with c#.

IPhoto qualms

Okay, first off I like the iPhoto application...
its kinda nice to be able to sort all your digital images in albums and browse through them at ease...
But when and check my documents folder, I found a 4 gig photo album file... And I have not even added half the images I have into it yet...
so what's the deal with this 4 gb file, is my images recopied into this album file?
Is there anyway I can not have this file and still have my images in the album...

Wow latency issues

So I just logged back in yesterday at about midnight and was getting about 500ms latency. Is this normal? I noticed Blizzard saying something about connection issues on their side at the login screen.

Thesis on database... Opinions guys?

As the topic says, I'm really interested in doing a research on database indexing and clustering algorithms. Currently my idea is very much just touching the surface of the mentioned field of study, however I would really like to narrow down my research. I haven't had the time to go study more on it, as I'm heavily committed to my work and my other free lance stuff.

So before I decide to proceed with my proposal, I'd like to hear what others have to say. You may treat this as a survery, I'd like broad general opinions on "Database Indexing and Clustering". Any experience shared is deeply appreciated.

Reading serial RS232 signals from a usb converter

As per topic, I'm developing an application that reads serial signals.
Problem I'm having now is that most advanced computers these days, or even laptops no longer have support for the old serial port signals. One of the option is to use a serial to usb converter, but how do I read the signals then? Do I need a 3rd party program? I'm using c# as my programming language, any suggestions are welcomed.

as per title, I'm trying develop a 2 tier client/server dbms using c#. The queries and data transfer will be done through tcp/ip socket connection. This is pretty new to me, so my question is, is there any resources I can research on concerning tcp/ip packet transfers.

Anybody here knows how to play around with windows registry?

I'm trying to setup a software and set the ProgID in the windows registry
This is what I'm required to do first before I could associate a certain file extension with the program.

I'm having problems with the FriendlyTypeName value. I believe that's where I link the software .exe file but what is the number that comes after it?

C# GDI+ question

Okay, I have a bitmap buffer streaming in memory
I've already roughly got what I wanted sorted out... which is to print text on that bitmap before I actually display it
But the thing is I want to make sure the font doesn't scale whenever I resize the window of the display.

by the way I'm using Graphics.Drawstring() to write the text on the bitmap.

Triad of Barthilas (Oceanic PVP) is recruiting atm for Magtheridon, SSC.

We are on the lookout for :
2x Shadow Priests
1x Holy Priest

We raid from 8pm to 1am, Wednesdays to Fridays... we mostly take the weekend off, since we usually get lazy by then, unless of course we have a boss we wanted dead.

Requirements :
- Kara Attuned
- Well Geared (if you're a shadow priest, i expect frostweave and spellstrike sets ready or underway. Holy priests are always about primal mooncloths and whitemend). If you're this geared, we won't mind helping you farm for the rest of the Kara gears you need to compliment what you have.
- Excellent Raid attitude and Ethics. You do need to understand that when you raid, you need to NEVER be a burden to the other 24 ppl in the raid.
- Have at least 6k HP unbuffed. (that goes to the primal healing priests)
- Always be ready for raids. Flasks, Elixirs, Mana Pots, Weapon Enchants, Must always be prepared before a raid.
- Great Skills and know your character inside out. This means you must not slack in skills at all. If you're a dpser, your dps has to be top notch. If you're a healer you need to know the basics of balancing your mana, heals, usage of TOTOT, and the ability to think fast when the situation arises.

The core members share the same goal, which is to enjoy this game. However, farming KARA for another 2-3 months isn't what I would call enjoyment. What we enjoy is a great group of players pushing to the limits of what they can do to provide a quality raid. If you share the same goals as us, please do apply.
