Help in upgrading ram

the last time i upgraded my ram was 2 years ago, and now i have to add another module, i using only one slot, kingston pc3200 ddr400 1gb, i want to buy another of same memory, i have 2 questions,

1. regarding double sided and single sided ram, how would i know if my current is double or single sided? and if i have double or single, then what is the 2nd meory i need to buy?

2. regarding dual and single channel, my mobo has 2 slots, i just need to buy ddr400 1gb and slap it in the mobo and im dual channel? no need to tweak the bios or software?

heres my cpu, i hope you guys can help me tweak this.

i saw in a website that its selling DDR2 400, pc3200, can i buy that and couple with my DDR1 400? will dual channel be activated? will it fit my mobo?

I'm not a basshead, just tight bass that's not exaggerated. I like jazz music. I know the 2 choices isn't the best for music, but they are the only speakers I can buy at the moment, so I just have to make the most out of it. just for music, not gaming or movies, which of 2 is better?

Cost of living in Penang?

Hi, I just want to ask how much is the monthly cost of living in Penang, Malaysia?

1. How much is the monthly rental fee on apartment with furnishing?

2. I'm thinking of a budget of RM 200 a month on transportation. is this right?

3. I'm also estimating RM 600 on foods a month. is this enough?

4. And around RM 400 on electricity and water bills. is this right? how much is electricity for a single person in an apartment? with air condition.

5. Other things I have to consider?

Pet for an apartment/hostel?

I'll be here in Malaysia for 6 months or so, for work, and my company rented a hostel for me to stay, the hostel is a lonely place, so i plan to have a pet as company.

im sure my loneliness will be greatly reduced if i can have a pet dog at my place , someone that will be excited once i come back home from work but we all know that its a no-no for a hostel .

so can anyone here suggest a good quiet pet that is suitable for hostel? i want one that can be cuddled and can recognize a person like dog. but not as noisy as dog. i'm thinking of a cat with cage, i'll just let her out when im home, but will the hotel allow that? anyway, i think i 'll just hide it when its time for housekeeping service.

any other animal you can suggest?

DIY fixing earphone

my 6 months old panasonic hje-70 is broken, no sound is coming in the left ear, i found out that the problem is inside that little wire "Y" where all the wires meet.

i was able to fix it, cut a cord from my old earphone to be used as the 3.5mm part of the Y, peeled the cord, burned that color coating from the wires, merge and twist the wires, and put a scotch tape around it, and because my 3.5mm part of wire is gray, i used a black permanent pen to color the scotch tape and the gray wires, not it looks like a frankenstein earphone. plus that black permanent marker ink i used is brushing off my shirt, not a wise thing i know.

now i need to do a 2nd take on this, can DIY gurus here tell me some basic technics? like what coating to use instead of a scotch tape? i'm planning to use that original 3.5mm wires, but its so small and only has 3 wires, green, red and copper(?), i guess the 2 copper wires from the left and right earphones will conect to that 1 copper wire right? and is it advisable to use a soldering iron rather than just twisting the wires together? and is it cheap? i have no soldering experience so i might do more damage to the wires.

someone please help me on this?

Disadvantage of CF card?

i'm planning to expand the storage capacity of my PDA, currently it has 1GB SD card, I dont want to buy a 2GB or 4GB SD card because that may make my 1GB SD card useless, i want to be able to use them at the same time, so I was thinking expanding thru CF slot, maybe 2GB CF slot, then + 1GB SD card, i have 3GB worth of expansion the problem is i dont know how is CF card vs. SD card, as i read a long time ago, theres a lot of negative for CF card when compared to SD card. like SD card last longer than CF card, CF card leaves a small gap when inserted on an iPAQ hx2750, thus leaving a room for dust to collect . and other comments like CF card are slower than SD card.

now that was a long time ago, and I dont know if those things are true, so anyone here who has experience with CF and SD card? can you comment on this? thanks

I'm already using the GPRS but it is so slow like a dial-up. I have two option buy a cheap edge cellphone or buy that edge pci card modem, anybody here know where can i buy that and how much? hope its not as expensive as cellphone

Notebook paintjob

ok, putting voiding warranty aside, would you paint your notebook? I have this acer notebook with silver finish, i've been wanting to paint it black. will just spraying it with paint cans do the job? i mean no more coating? i really dont know how to do that coating and dont have the time to wait for it (2 weeks or so).

if anyone here did it, can you please post your pix and how did you did it?

i know too litlle of scripting so i'd like to ask if you guys can help me debug this code. the code above works, because the whole line is specified, but i just want a pattern match not an absolute match of the whole line so i'd like to change it to "*PROCESS IS DEAD*" but its not working. can you help me out on this? how does pattern matching work on scripting?

and one more important thing, i'd like to add as you can see my log file name is LOG.MM.DD where MM is month and DD is day. How can I add a code in the script to make the tail command stop and start again on 12:05am (when log file name will change). basically i was thinking of changing the while part to while read -p err_line && curr_date = `date "+%m.%d"` and then put the whole code to a loop.

so i was thinkng of changing the working script from that above to this:

Wireless, Optical/Laser, Notebook Mouse

OK here are the features i'm looking for a mouse.

1. its a notebook mouse so it must be small, not that XL size mouse.
2. optical is ok but as much as possible laser, and can be used on any surface, including my lap
3. Has an on/off button, so i can save battery life, my current wireless optical mouse now has no on/off button, so when its in my bag and my bag moves, naturally the mouse move and will wake, so battery always run out in 3 to 5 days only.
4. if possible, fast wake up time, sometimes 1 seconds of wakeup is too long if your gaming.
5. long range, greater than 1.5 meters.
6. last but not the least, not greater then RM300.

anyone here knows a mouse that has all this features? or it doesnt exist? i can tolerate if not all the features are there, but 1 to 4 is very important to me.

DIY laptop backpack anyone?

i have this high sierra backpack, quite nice looking and my 14.1" Wide screen laptop can fit inside perfectly, the problem is it doesnt have paddings, and no nylon covered foam like on the bag that comes with the laptop.

now i have 2 options, i'll rip off that nylon foam from my acer slingbag and sew it inside the high sierra backpack or look for a cushion type thing to sew inside my backpack.

can you guys suggest a material and where can i find this? or maybe you can suggest a shop that do modding of backpack?
