Overall build quality of RT-AC68U is solid amazingly good , if you look in the picture RT-AC68U is slightly bigger than RT-AC66U , RT-AC68U only can be place vertical position and it doesn’t need a back stand like RT-AC66U because it got a large base to support its body . RT-AC68U have with 4 Gigabits Ethernet port , 1 Wan port , and USB port 2.0 and 3.0 , in addition to the design ASUS put a small nice looking LED illumination panel that can be turn on/off .

here you can see the ASUS RT-N12HP (front) and ASUS RT-AC66U (behind) , their size almost the same but ASUS RT-AC66U a bit bigger

here another side to side comparison between the RT-N12HP and RT-AC66U

the design of this router is the same as other ASUS Black Diamond Series router

ASUS RT-N12HP is very lightweight compare to RT-AC66U also you do not have to worry about working temperature , even in high load this RT-N12HP temperature is just fine.

RT-N12HP (top) have 4 100MBps LAN port , 1 WAN port and no USB port

as you can see in the picture below i have connected to my wifi using ASUS PCE-AC66 i can get average -35 to -37 dBm in 30feet away from the router and a between wall .
i have tested the ASUS RT-N12HP signal how far can it goes . I live in apartment level 5 so i bring my laptop out go up until level 8 , i really impress with the result , i still get a reception at level 6 and 7 but when i go up to level 8 my wifi signal show only 1 bar and after few second it disconnect and disappear from wifi list , at level 6 and 7 i get around 3 to 2 bar that is very good

ASUS Networking Product Review Featuring EA-N66 and PCE-AC66

Testing and LAN File Transfer Performance Comparison 2.4ghz and 5ghz

the file transfer that i done is Wlan to 1Gb Lan connected to ASUS RT-AC66U

as you can see up in the picture 4.70GB file transfer speed for 5ghz easily can achieve 22mbps and 2.4ghz is at 14.5mbps
the 5ghz wifi transfer speed more faster than 2.4ghz but 5ghz wifi best perform in small area and not blocked by any wall because 5ghz wifi signal does not penetrated wall good as 2.4ghz wifi
so with ASUS EA-N66 if you want to use 5ghz wifi you have to be near the router around 10meter away without blocked by any thick wall

as you can see in the picture above im using the ASUS PCE-AC66 utility software to control the Wifi instead of using Window Wifi control , on the left side you can see the transfer speed Wlan>LAN for 2.4ghz PCE-AC66 easily outperform the 2.4ghz EA-N66 . its seem PCE-AC66 2.4ghz manage to get the same speed as 5ghz EA-N66 . When it come to 5ghz on PCE-AC66 the transfer speed is totally different! , i was amazed by the transfer speed! on Wlan-Lan , with 5ghz i manage to get average around 45-48mbps ! and peak at 55-60mbps! , now the transfer speed of this 5ghz PCE-AC66 is the same level of USB 3.0 storage device! .

The ASUS PCE-AC66 really does it job Greatly all the connection and file transfer i tested all was stable , but to achieve 45-48mbps file transfer speed in wifi you will need an AC router like ASUS RT-AC66U or any other AC router will be good . IEEE 802.11ac standard wifi technology you can get an amazing transfer speed with 5ghz frequency , if you want your a faster Wireless home network for big size file sharing this setup i would recommended for you

For now ASUS did not have any of USB AC wifi adapter on their product list , in the future i hope ASUS can make a USB 3.0 AC Wifi Adapter so you can use it anywhere , anytime , and on any Desktop or Laptop
