Cool story time

So this is me; late 20's, sitting in a cafe my hometown, leeching of free wifi and currently jobless. That of course is not the start of my story. My predicament started a few months back when i was working as an expat in an advertising agency in Vietnam which was owned by a Local company and it was greatest job i had! New culture, great looking viet mois to look at but most of all i was earning in USD! Of course all good thins must come to an end. The bad news came after a year working there. From what i gathered the company back here had gone into red, (apparently the boss had been skimming off the profits) and was soon out of business. It's Subsidiary in vietnam (the one which I worked in) was bought over by a smaller company which meant also meant that they wouldn't be paying me the big bucks anymore. I got retrenched and left soon after i left vietnam for home.

When i first arrived home, i stayed in KL with a friend who was kind enough to let me bunk at his place while i settled down searched for a new job. Let me tell you this; KL is not cheap... Having Starbucks and late night partying did not help, soon most of my saved up USD dwindled down, worst yet it had been 3 months and i was still jobless. It had seem that every ad agency was low balling me (or maybe it was just me, being too used to earning USD.) Eventually i left KL and back to my hometown, into the safety net of my parents. I know what you'd say but frankly i was desperate.

Even back home i still continued sending in my resume to whatever agency was hiring but still no luck. This went of for a while, that even my parents stopped asking me about my job hunting prospects. So that's me but this is not why i'm telling you my story, this is...

As i said i before, i was sitting at the cafe with my laptop out (guess what laptop, heh) reading ermmm... stuff, when i noticed this cute girl at the counter flanked by guys chatting her up at the counter of the cafe. She was short and petite but well endowed (heh, definately hnnnggg!). Don't call me Peter File but if she were to wear a pinafore and had the highlights of hair removed she would definately pass of as a school student. Now i'm sure you'd probably ask for 'drillz' at this moment but sorry... best way for you to imagine how she would look like was for you the google Ellie Tran (since i was talking about Vietnam).

One quick note before you finish typing the name into google, In those few second it took for you to type in 9 letters of the name was how long i ogled at her that was till i got caught staring. I quickly averted eyes, looking back at the screen of my laptop as if i hadn't noticed her at all. If i remember right, the screen on the laptop was on some ichii manga i was reading. As i pretended to be concentrating on my laptop, i noticed her walking towards me from the edge of my eye. 'Shit', i thought, expecting a public tongue lashing from a SJW. I did not dare to look up from the screen in fact my eyes gazed even lower, just low enough to see a pair of legs standing just in front of me.

OK, now here comes the 'cool story time' bit...

As i waited to be chastised, I heard her call out my name. You're probably wondering this:'What? How did she know his name?', cause i was wondering the same thing. I was certainly caught of guard and spaced out for a moment, not knowing how to respond. She said my name again, this time asking if was really who i was. Timidly i answered back with a soft 'yes...', my head barely lifting up, still embarrassed from getting caught staring. When i finally managed to look her in the face, i saw her smile at me and she introduced herself to me.

It was then my eyes lit up, as if the cogs in my brains started up again. I knew her, this hot girl, I KNEW HER! She was that nerdy girl that sat in front of the class, always quiet, always studying (you know that type, unless you come from a all boys school, then i would say sorry for you) except now she looked more adult like and sans the glasses. 'Wow', said as i dumbfounded by her transformation. Without being too direct i mentioned that she looked different from how she and that i really liked the new look. She thanked me.

As we were catching up with one another, i had began to noticed the guys who had flanked her were still at the counter waiting for their drinks. I couldn't help but feel like they were staring daggers at me!

'HAHA cucked!' I smiled... no, I grinned all while she talked about herself, her job and work place which was nearby.

Ever had that feeling where you were going to lose a match and suddenly lo and behold a reverse of fate, kinda like when you're playing Mario Kart... This was it! 'HAHA in your face beta boys!' That was until the brakes were applied when i heard her asking me about what i did! I HAVE BEEN JOBLESS FOR MONTHS, is not what you're suppose to say especially to a hot girl like her.

I had to think quick and the best i could come out with was half lies. I told her i was in between jobs at the moment. Truth! That i had quit my job because i felt that i could be doing more. LIES. It's been a few months since i last worked. TRUTH! The reason for this was because i was working on a business plan and it's taking me some time as i wanted to get it right. LIES! In fact i was typing out a proposal on my laptop before we spoke. EVEN MORE LIES!... As the words came out my lips from the last of my lies, I realized that the ichii manga was still on screen, to which i discreetly lowered the screen.

Guess what... She bought it! She looked rather impressed with me however before she could press on about my 'new' business, the beta boys called out to her. Their drinks were ready and it was time to head back to work. She then passed me her name card, asking me to whatsapp her when i had the time before collecting her drinks. I smiled as she waved goodbye while leaving the cafe.

First though i had was; 'Damn! She HOT! Got to whatsapp her NOW!' Second thought i had; 'WTF was i going to say to her when she asks me about my business plan...'

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

No real persons, especially beta boys were hurt in the telling of this tale. And NO DRILLZZZZ!

No homework for students!

Hollande promises pupils ‘no more homework’
© AFP
French President François Hollande pledged to ditch homework on Tuesday as part of wide-ranging reforms aimed at improving standards for over-worked French pupils, especially those in disadvantaged areas.

French President François Hollande potentially won the hearts of millions of future voters on Tuesday when he announced plans to abolish homework and reduce the number of pupils forced to repeat school years.

The comprehensive reforms will also increase the number of teachers across the country, boost aid to disadvantaged areas and target absenteeism. The school week would return to four and a half days rather than four – a change introduced under the former administration as a cost-cutting measure.

“Education is priority,” Hollande said at Paris’s Sorbonne University on Wednesday. “An education programme is, by definition, a societal programme. Work should be done at school, rather than at home,” in order to foster educational equality for those students who do not have support at home., he added.

He also promised incentives for teachers willing to work in “difficult areas”. Children will also be able to attend school at an earlier age in highlighted zones.

Following his election in May, Socialist Hollande vowed to make education a key focus of his five-year term and outlined his proposals in the speech on Tuesday. He has promised to employ some 60,000 teachers over five years, after Nicolas Sarkozy cut tens of thousands of jobs during his own mandate.

French children’s test scores are above the European average, but they suffer some of the longest working days on the continent, leaving school only at 5pm or 6pm.

sos

Cheaper broadband

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysians in five states seeking cheap broadband service can get it for as low as RM20 per month, thanks to the new 1Malaysia Broadband Affordable packages.

They will be offered by all Malaysian telecommunication companies for those in Sabah, Sarawak, Kelantan, Pahang and Terengganu by Malaysia Day on Sept 16.

Information, Communications and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim said the packages were offered to the five states as their state broadband penetration rate was lower than the national rate.

“We need to improve penetration rates in Sabah, Sarawak, Kelantan, Pahang and Terengganu which stand at only 40% to 50% compared with the national rate of 64%,” he said after launching the service at the Sultan Abdul Samad complex here yesterday.

The wireless package costs RM20 to RM25 a month for 512kbps minimum broadband speed with 1GB capacity, while the fixed package costs RM38 a month for 384kbps minimum broadband speed and unlimited capacity.

Other packages for the public offered by the same telcos cost an average of RM130 monthly.

Dr Rais added that eligible members of the public could subscribe to the service by buying a starter SIM pack from any service provider which carried the package’s exclusive logo.

“The ministry and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) will have periodical meetings with the telco companies to track the package’s success, and with good response we might introduce it in other states,” he said.

Celcom Axiata chief executive officer Datuk Seri Shazalli Ramly, who represented all telco companies under the project, said public feedback on the packages would be gathered by each telco company through customer care lines.

“Providing an affordable broadband package for the underserved market is laudable, and in line with the 1Malaysia spirit. We will introduce the starter packs within a few days,” he added.

SOS
