Oscar set to leave Chelsea in £52m China transfer

Chelsea midfielder Oscar is joining Chinese Super League club Shanghai SIPG for a fee of around £52million.

The Brazilian midfielder has fallen out of favour under Antonio Conte, and hasn't started a Premier League game since mid-September.

And now he is being given a way out by the Chinese side, who also have Brazilian striker Hulk in their squad and are managed by former Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas.

Hulk is believed to be on a wage of £320,000, and cost the CSL's current record transfer fee when he joined.

Oscar's fee will eclipse that by around £5m, as he becomes the third big-name former Chelsea player currently in China following Demba Ba and Ramires. Didier Drogba and Nicolas Anelka have also had stints in the country.

Oscar has been at Stamford Bridge since 2012, playing over 200 games for the club in all competitions.

He has won one Premier League title, the Europa League and the League Cup, as well as twice winning the club's goal of the season.

The Brazilian has been capped 48 times for his country, winning the confederations cup and an Olympic silver medal back in 2012.

He joins the Chinese side at a time of financial boom for the league, with five of the 14 best-paid footballers in the world now playing in the CSL.

Graziano Pelle, Ezequiel Lavezzi and Jackson Martinez are all recent arrivals in the league, while Villas-Boas himself is also on big money, earning £11m-a-year since replacing former England boss Sven Goran-Eriksson.

Shanghai finished third in the league last season, meaning that their Asian Champions League campaign begins early in the play-off rounds in February.

They have never won the Super League, but did finish second under Eriksson in 2015.

Ronaldo, who moves to within one of Messi's record five Ballon d'Or wins, was the overwhelming favourite after a stellar 12 months in which he won Euro 2016, the Champions League and the UEFA Super Cup.
The former Manchester United man also moves clear of three-time winners Marco van Basten, Michel Platini and the late Johan Cruyff.
The 31-year-old, who was not there to collect the award in person due to Real Madrid's Japan commitments, described his latest triumph as 'a dream come true.'

'I never imagined winning this trophy four times,' the former Manchester United man said. 'I'm really happy and fulfilled.

India politician J Jayalalitha dies at 68

Chennai: J Jayalalithaa, the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu state, has died in a Chennai hospital, nearly three months after she was admitted there. She was 68. Jayalalitha breathed her last at 11.30pm, hospital said in a statement.

Apollo Hospitals said in a statement: "It is with indescribable grief, we announce the sad demise of our esteemed Honourable Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Puratchi Thalaivi Amma at 11.30 p.m. today (Sunday)."

It is learnt Jayalalithaa's body will be taken to her residence at Poes Garden first.

Police were deployed in large numbers outside Apollo Hospitals and also at Poes Garden.

The 68-year-old leader suffered the cardiac arrest hours after AIADMK said that Jayalalithaa will return home “soon” as an AIIMS expert team confirmed she has completely recovered after over two months of hospitalisation.

Jayalalitha was hospitalised on September 22 after she complained of fever and dehydration. The hospital, which had been issuing bulletins on her health status, had later said she was being treated for infection with respiratory

support, among others.

PM Modi Says Rs. 500 And Rs. 1,000 discontinued

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, addressing the country tonight, announced that Rs. 500 and Rs. 1000 notes will not be used from midnight onwards. The Rs. 500 and Rs. 1000 notes must be deposited at post offices and banks by the end of December, the PM said, adding the move was essential to fight "the disease of black money."

Here are the highlights from his address:

Corruption and black money are diseases rooted in this country, they are obstacles to our success.

We are among fastest-growing economies, but we also rank so high in global corruption rankings.

Terror strikes at the innocent. Who funds these terrorists? Across the border, our enemy uses fake currency and dodgy funds to sponsor terror - this has been proven repeatedly.

Our measures to check black money are paying off. A voluntary disclosure scheme for undeclared money saw a good response. A Special Investigating Team is making progress to identify who has sent money abroad.

1.25 lakh crores of black money has been recovered.

We need to take a new solid step to fight black money. From now on, Rs. 500 and Rs. 1000 notes will not be used. Have 50 days to turn them into banks and post offices.

On November 9 and in some places on November 10, ATMs will not work.

Respite for people for the initial 72 hours, government hospitals will accept old Rs. 500 and 1000 notes till 11 November midnight.

Petrol pumps and retail outlets will have to keep every single entry of cash transaction with 500 and 1000 notes till November 11.

Crematoriums and cemeteries will also be allowed to transact 500 and 1000 notes till November 11.

There will be no change in any other form of currency exchange be it cheque, DD, payment via credit or debit cards etc.

Those unable to deposit Rs. 1000, Rs. 500 notes by December 30 for some reason, can change them till March 31, 2017 by furnishing ID proof

Notes of Rs. 2000 and Rs. 500 will be circulated soon, RBI has decided to limit the notes with higher value

Sam Allardyce: England manager leaves after 1 game

Sam Allardyce has left his post as England manager by mutual agreement with the Football Association after one match and 67 days in charge.

It follows a newspaper investigation claiming he offered advice on how to "get around" rules on player transfers.

Allardyce, 61, is also alleged to have used his role to negotiate a deal worth £400,000 to represent a Far East firm.

An FA statement said Allardyce's conduct "was inappropriate" and Gareth Southgate will take temporary charge.

"He accepts he made a significant error of judgement and has apologised," the FA said.

"This is not a decision that was taken lightly but the FA's priority is to protect the wider interests of the game and maintain the highest standards of conduct in football.

"The manager of the England men's senior team is a position which must demonstrate strong leadership and show respect for the integrity of the game at all times."

Allardyce succeeded Roy Hodgson in July following England's disastrous performance at Euro 2016 in France and becomes the national side's shortest-serving full-time manager.

he was a hugely popular and acclaimed musician Prince has died at his home in Minnesota at the age of 57, his publicist has said.

Police were called to a medical emergency at his Paisley Park estate earlier on Thursday, US media reported. An investigation is underway.

Prince became a global superstar in the 1980s, with albums such as 1999, Purple Rain and Sign O' the Times.

He sold more than 100 million records during his career.

Born Prince Rogers Nelson in 1958 he was a prolific writer and performer from a young age.

A singer, songwriter, arranger and multi-instrumentalist, Prince recorded more than 30 albums. His best known hits include Let's Go Crazy and When Doves Cry.

He also built a reputation for secrecy and eccentricity, once changing his name to an unpronounceable symbol.

In 2004, Prince was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, which said he "rewrote the rulebook".

Last week he was rushed to hospital hours after performing on stage, but was soon released.

Tributes have been pouring in on social media and fans have been gathering at Paisley Park.

Chic guitarist Nile Rogers said there were "tears and love on our tour bus". Pop star Katy Perry said "the world lost a lot of magic". Director Spike Lee said: "I Miss My Brother. Prince Was A Funny Cat. Great Sense Of Humour."

A musical prodigy from a broken home, Prince famously wrote, arranged, produced and played almost all of his hit records.

Jim Carrey's ex-girlfriend Cathriona White, 28, has committed suicide, law enforcement sources tell TMZ.

The Irish make-up artist was found dead at her Los Angeles, California home Monday night, after two friends showed up at the residence to check in on her.

News of her death comes just five days after breaking up with the comedian for a second time.

TMZ reports, according to sources, that White left a suicide note in which she said she broke up with Carrey on September 24. That was the same day that she wrote a worrying message on Twitter.

'Signing off Twitter, I hope I have been a light to my nearest and dearest,' White wrote.

It's believed that White, originally from Cappawhite in Ireland's County Tipperary, died from a drug overdose.

The comedian had not yet commented on the passing of his former girlfriend.

The couple first met in late summer 2012 but by March the following year it was all over.

While Carrey never said why, the comedian did confirm that he had split from the former makeup artist to the Irish Independent.

He said in March 2013: 'I did go out with an Irish girl. We're not seeing each other anymore. But she is lovely.'

However, by May of this year, the couple had rekindled their romance and were seen happily holding hands on outings in New York.

In October 2012, friends from White's small village of less than 400 told the Irish Mail on Sunday how they were completely taken aback when they saw pictures of her hand in hand with Carrey, when they first started dating.

'We can't believe it,' says a former classmate of Cathriona's from the Convent of Mercy in the nearby town of Doon, Co. Limerick.

'Of all the people, you wouldn't have expected it. Cathriona was always lovely looking, but she wasn't pushy - she was very shy really and quiet.'

But she was also ambitious. White completed her Leaving Certificate at the Convent of Mercy before going on to study beauty and complementary therapies at the Limerick College of Further Education. After that, she found

work as a beautician in Tipperary before packing her bags for American in 2009.

'Most of her friends had emigrated and her brother was working abroad with the army and I think she just thought, "I want something a bit more glamorous." She didn't make a big deal of it,' another school-friend said. 'She

didn't say she was going to Hollywood - she just said LA. I think Cathriona always wanted a bit more than Cappawhite.

'She is not a fame-seeker or anything like that,' the school friend said, adding that she wasn't surprised 'Jim Carrey or anyone else' fancied her.

Carrey has twice been married. In 1987 he wed Comedy Store waitress Melissa Womer; they stayed together for eight years and have a daughter, Jane Erin Carrey, who was the same age as White and has a child of her own.

A year after Carrey's split from Womer in 1995, the actor married his Dumb and Dumber co-star Lauren Holly, but that marriage lasted less than a year.

After than he was involved in a number of relationships with other actresses including January Jones, Laurie Holden and Me Myself and Irene co-star Renee Zellweger, to whom he was briefly engaged.

In 2005 he began a five-year relationship with Jenny McCarthy, and became a step-father to her son Evan.

Former India President APJ Abdul Kalam Dies at 83

SHILLONG: Former President APJ Abdul Kalam died on Monday at a hospital in Meghalaya, where he had gone to deliver a lecture at the Indian Institute of Management in Shillong. He was 83.

Dr Kalam reportedly collapsed on stage at the IIM and was rushed to the Bethany hospital. Doctors say he suffered from a massive cardiac arrest.

Dr Kalam -- the 11th President on India between 2002 and 2007 -- was born in Rameswaram on October 15, 1931, to the family of a boatman.

Home Minister Rajnath Singh tweeted, "Deeply saddened at the sudden demise of the former president of India Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam. He was an inspiration to an entire generation."

He played a pivotal role in India's Pokhran-II nuclear test in 1998, the first since the test by India in 1974. He was known as the missile man of India.

For his achievements, he was awarded the Padma Bhushan and Bharat Ratna, and then he became the 11th President of India in 2002.

India’s new Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, has made the BMW 7 Series 760 Li Security Edition his official car, with no further update available on the offer made to him for a fully armored Scorpio. Modi had used a civilian version of the Scorpio during his campaigns leading up to the elections.

The 760 Li uses the flagship engine in the BMW lineup. A 6.0-liter twelve-cylinder engine (V12) outputs 544 hp at 5,250 rpm and 750 Nm of torque at 1,500 rpm and uses an 8-speed automatic transmission. The sedan accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 6.2 seconds and achieves a top-speed of 210 km/h.

The 760 Li Security Edition is fully compliant with VR7 grade of ballistic protection. In fact, some of the transparent area and the non-transparent area comply with VR9 grade of protection. On the outside, the Security Edition looks just like any ordinary 7 Series as the armour plates, which are made from an “incredibly strong special steel” fit the bodywork like a second skin, say BMW.

Apart from ballistic protection, the 760 Li Security Edition protects its occupants from a fire in the engine compartment or under the vehicle, tear gas on the streets, or a jammed door. Safety features include an on-board fire-fighting system, an emergency exit and an emergency fresh-air system.

The PM’s convoy fleet is reported to contain multiple 760 Li Security Editions (for decoy purposes) and a few BMW X5s as well.
