Indian Police files case against Ananda

PETALING JAYA: Malaysian billionaire T. Ananda Krishnan, his trusted executive Ralph Marshall along with former Indian Telecoms Minister Dayanidhi Maran and his brother Kalanidhi could face a case in connection with India's telecoms controversy that has rocked Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's government.

The case relating to criminal conspiracy in the swirling US$800mil (RM2.55bil) Aircel-Maxis telecoms deal was registered via a First Information Report (FIR) by the powerful Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

According to Indian news reports yesterday, the CBI conducted immediate raids on Dayanidhi's luxury homes and offices in New Delhi, Chennai and Hyderabad after obtaining the FIR on Sunday.

The reports stated that CBI also raided Kalanidhi's offices at Sun TV, and the residence of Sunita Reddy who is a shareholder of Aircel.

When news of the CBI raids broke, it was flashed across Indian TV stations and immediately hit the wires and Malaysian news websites, with Maxis Communications Bhd (MCB) and Maxis Bhd (Maxis) issuing separate statements.

MCB which has a 74% stake in India's Aircel and is a major shareholder in Maxis, has totally denied any wrongdoing.

MCB also stated that it was aware of the CBI investigations for some time and had extended its full co-operation.

“Whilst disappointed that the FIR has been filed, MCB will continue to co-operate with the CBI in its investigation in full confidence that the allegations will prove to be unfounded and without basis,'' the MCB statement read.

MCB said it had yet to be provided with the FIR but understood that it was expressly named in the report along with nominated persons and that the FIR related to allegations of coercion and corruption surrounding the Aircel purchase.

The statement added that the acquisition of Aircel was “a commercial, arms length transaction between a willing seller and willing buyer.”

The takeover of Aircel by MCB dates back to December 2005 when Aircel was owned by entrepreneur C. Sivasankaran, who accused Dayanidhi of pressuring him to sign a deal with Maxis.

“Indeed, MCB paid the asking price demanded by the seller, Siva Ventures Limited (owned by C. Sivasankaran). Furthermore, MCB recently fully successfully defended international arbitration proceedings brought against it by the former owner of Aircel, Siva Ventures, whose claims against MCB were dismissed in their entirety.

“MCB will continue in its commitment to the Indian telecommunications market in which it has invested more than US$8bil (RM24bil) since it acquired Aircel to establish and develop a pan-Indian mobile telephony business, along the way building a subscriber base of more than 50 million customers,'' the statement said.

It added that the investment included US$2.5bil (RM7.75bil) in the 2010 Indian 3G/BWA spectrum auction and in respect of the deployment of 3G network over Aircel's licence areas.

Maxis Bhd told Bursa Malaysia that the FIR had no impact on the company.

CBI spokesman Dharini Mishra was quoted as telling the Indian media yesterday that the cases registered against Ananda, Marshall, the Maran brothers and three companies MCB, Astro and Sun TV were under Section 120b of the Indian Penal Code read with 13(2) with 13 (1)(d) and also Section 7 and 12 of the Prevention of Corruption Act.

According to legal circles, the FIR was a written document prepared by CBI after the agency had conducted a preliminary inquiry over allegations of kickbacks surrounding the 2007 ownership change in Aircel, the Chennai-based cellular company.

They said the FIR would enable CBI to officially request documents relating to the case from Malaysia and only if there was enough evidence against the parties named could the CBI press charges in Indian courts.

The controversy has plagued the Congress government since the beginning of the year and so far ,several politicians have been implicated.

http://thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=...2667&sec=nation

PR got MyKad in 4hrs

QUOTE

Less than four hours after Malaysiakini reported that a permanent resident (PR) holding a red MyPR card had been registered as a new voter , she has apparently become a citizen.

She now has a blue Mykad, based on a check of the same online system of the National Registration Department (NRD) where her voter registration details are recorded.

A check of the NRD online verification system twice - at 5.48pm yesterday and 11.30am today - had shown that a person named Mismah was a PR holder who had collected her MyPR card (No. 640704715238), an identification card for PR.

When the same number was entered into the EC online verification system, Mismah appeared as a newly-registered voter.

However, another check with the NRD system at 3pm returned a shocking result - the same Mismah has become a citizen with blue Mykad.

Her status on the EC online verification system remained the same as at 3pm - a newly-registered voter in the latest supplementary electoral roll which is now on display for public scrutiny.

http://123malaysia.com/news/457

Look like more foreigners becomes Malaysian now.
FAM appology to Chelsea FA

The Football Association of Malaysia Friday apologised to Chelsea's Israeli player Yossi Benayoun and his club for any anti-Semitic abuse suffered by the midfielder in the country last week.

"From our initial observations, if such an incident took place, it would have involved a small section of spectators at the match and this surely does not reflect the feelings of the majority of fans in this football loving country," it said in a statement.

"The FA of Malaysia would like to strongly register that we do not condone any form of racism in football. If such an incident did happen, we would like to apologise to the player concerned, and also to Chelsea FC," it added.

The qualified apology comes after the FA of Malaysia received a complaint from Chelsea over alleged racist abuse targeted at Benayoun during a friendly match with the Malaysian XI in Kuala Lumpur on July 21.

The midfielder was booed and jeered whenever he touched the ball in the 1-0 win against Malaysia in the capital of the Muslim-majority country.

Benayoun was the first Israeli to play in Malaysia, which strongly supports the Palestinians and does not recognise Israel, maintaining no diplomatic ties with the country. Some 60 percent of Malaysia's population is Muslim.

A statement on Chelsea's website read: "Notwithstanding most fans behaving appropriately on the night, we believe Yossi was subjected to anti-Semitic abuse by a number of supporters at the game.

"Such behaviour is offensive, totally unacceptable and has no place in football.

"The club did not make representations at the time as it was initially unclear as to the nature of the abuse Yossi received, as several players from both teams experienced similar treatment, sometimes louder and longer.

"However, having taken time to consider the issue fully, it has become apparent that a formal complaint was necessary."

SOS

Big Mama : Diamond ring allegation a slander

Rosmah Mansor, wife of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak, denied the allegation that she had purchased a RM24.4 million diamond ring, calling it another slander against her.

"There is nothing I want to say (in relation to the purchase of ring) because I have no time to entertain such issue.

"Let him (blogger) says what he wants," she was quoted as saying by Malay daily Berita Harian in a news report today.

"This is nothing funny, this is slander... what have I not experienced? I have experienced all (slander).

"Rather than entertaining such an issue, it is better for me to focus on people's issues because they are more important," she said after attending a function at Pokok Sena, Kedah, yesterday.

Rosmah ( right ) also said that as the wife of prime minister with qualification, it is more appropriate for her to contribute to the people, including her efforts to strengthen pre-school education in the country, especially in the rural hinterland.

Children foremost in her mind

"I'm more comfortable with what I'm doing now to help the people particularly in the issue of strengthening pre-school education for children, especially at rural area because for me, knowledge is the most valuable property for their future," she added.

The opposition alleged that Rosmah had bought a import-duty-free million ringgit diamond ring.

Badrul Hisham Shaharin, a PKR leader heading the NGO Solidariti Anak Muda Malaysia (SAMM), had lodged a report with Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) on the issue.

He claimed that a purported Customs Department information system printout, which he would hand over to the anti-graft body, implicates Rosmah as receiver of the diamond ring.

According to Badrul, the "Natural Fancy Gray Cushion Cut Diamond" priced at RM24,458,400, was flown in via the KL International Airport.

He alleged that the item was purchased through Jacob & Co, a New York-based fine jewellery company, and brought to Malaysia by one Jeremy Beh Sin Tee.
Ex Vietnam PM wish to die in Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: The late Tun Nguyen Cao Ky, the former prime minister of South Vietnam, loved Malaysia and once told a friend that although he was born in Vietnam, he would one day die here.

It was because of this that his family chose to have his wake here.

Ky's youngest daughter, Nguyen Cao Ky Duyen, said her father, who died at the Serdang Hospital of lung infection on July 23, had frequently visited Malaysia and thought of it as a peaceful country.

“We believe his spirit chose this place. So, we do not want to disturb his body and move it out of the country,” she said at the Buddhist funeral service at the Nirvana Memorial Centre here yesterday.

Ky was awarded a Tunship by the Malaysian Government in 1965.
Final farewell: Family members paying their last respects to Ky (inset) at the Nirvana Memorial Centre in Sungai Besi Thursday.

He was 80 and leaves behind 11 children and 14 grandchildren.

Duyen, 46, said her father was in Malaysia to set up an international school and to establish a scholarship in his name.

“Property has already been acquired for the project. Efforts to build the school, which will specialise in teaching English, will continue even after my father's death as it was his last wish,” said Duyen who is a Vietnamese-American entertainer.

Asked what she would miss most about her father, she said: “I will miss his wisdom. He was a very wise man and I could listen to him speak for hours.

“His views and philosophy on things were very captivating.”

Nguyen Cao Dat, Ky's third son from his first marriage, said his father was a very warm person and had a special way of reaching out to people.

Ky's body will be cremated at the Nirvana Crematorium in Shah Alam today.

His ashes will be taken to the United States for his friends to pay their last respects.

Ky, a former air force general, became the prime minister of South Vietnam in 1965, when US involvement in the Vietnam War was at its highest.

He ruled the country for two years.

http://thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=...4295&sec=nation

Android is No1

Nielsen comes bearing good news today for devotees of the little green robot: as of this past June, Android has claimed the top spot in the smartphone OS market. Figures have it as comprising a full 39% of the market, with its closest competitor Apple a distant second at 28%. Oh, and let’s not forget the BlackBerry OS, which is currently dragging its feet at 20%. Bringing up the rear are Windows Phone 7 at 9%, which is a bit of an accomplishment considering the major head start its competitors enjoyed, and WebOS and Symbian (both at 2%).

This strikes me as a bit puzzling, given what seems like the abject lack of Nokia smartphones stateside. The E71x debuted on AT&T two years ago with little fanfare, and even the newish Nokia Astound seems to have been dropped from T-Mobile’s online store. Of course the situation is still in flux; with HP hoping the TouchPad will leverage sales of the Veer 4G and the forthcoming Pre 3, we will likely see a boost in rank next time round. Still, they need to make their next steps very, very carefully.

On the hardware front, Apple makes it known that they’re not ones to settle for second. They have managed to land themselves the title of top manufacturer — an easy victory, to be fair. Considering the top OS finds its way to devices made by HTC, Motorola, and Samsung, Apple was a lock from the beginning. RIM surprisingly finds itself tied with HTC for manufacturing 20% of the smartphones in people’s pockets, which we could probably chalk up to corporate support balancing out HTC consumer advertising campaigns.

These results are all well and good, and I’m sure they’ll be quoted for quite some time, but they come right on the cusp of change. I’m interested to see how the landscape changes once heavy hitters like the Galaxy S II line and the iPhone 4S/5/whatever are released, and we’ll be sure to let you know as it happens.

Gay Malaysians Active On Facebook

KUALA LUMPUR – Gay groups in Malaysia are currently seen very active on the social network Facebook through various associations and club.

Based on mynewshub.my survey today, there is an association that named themselves as ‘Persatuan Gay Malaysia Kebangsaan’.

This association is also bold in using the country’s emblem on their symbol.

The association has a total of 8,533 people who ‘like’ the page. It also became a place where gay people find new acquaintances from in and out of the country, besides socializing among themselves.

Such Facebook page become a platform for the gay community to find partners, discuss and promote themselves.

Some even leave their handphone numbers for contact.

However, not all Facebook users ‘like’ this association’s Facebook account are people who involved in homosexual activities.

In fact there are those who criticize and insinuate gay groups on the association’s wall.

It is believed that the Persatuan Gay Malaysia Kebangsaan is not the only Malaysian gay association on Facebook.

The following are several gay associations and clubs believed to based in Malaysia:

1. Persatuan Gay Malaysia Kebangsaan

2. Terengganu Gay Club

3. Persatuan Blogger-Blogger Gay Malaysia

4. Persatuan Gay Berkumpulan

5. Persatuan Belia Gay Malaysia

6. Persatuan Gay Malaysia

7. Persatuan Gay Melayu

8. Persatuan Gay Perak

9. Persatuan Gay Sejati

10. Persatuan The Gay

11. Persatuan Gay Berwibawa ILPKL

12. Persatuan Gay Club (PGC)

13. Persatuan Gay Serantau

14. Persatuan Lesbian dan Gay SeMalaysia

15. Persatuan Gay SeMalaysia (PGS)

Previously the media often reported gay group activities which are increasingly growing, especially in the Klang Valley.

This syndrome was reputed increasingly widespread among men who purportedly failed to get a girlfriend or had been disappointed by women.

Also reputed to be factors are positions and high income earned by women today.

Women’s position is deemed to affect the men’s ego until causing them to choose to be involve in the gay world.

While the gay groups using Facebook as a field to interact one internet hacker group who call themselves RileksCrew have warned the gay associations and clubs.

RileksCrews warned that they would hack this group’s Facebook accounts.

Until recently, Terengganu Gay Club was successfully hacked by the RileksCrew group by leaving a note on the Club’s Facebook webpage:

“This Page Been HACKED By RileksCrew, Please Do Not Country Name For Gayers Club… We Will Remove This Page.. !!”.

There is a possibility that many other Facebook accounts related to gay group activities in Malaysia will be hacked by this group soon.

Ibrahim Ali Award

Stressing his “clean” record of activism in the past 30 years, Perkasa president Ibrahim Ali claimed that all the objections against the proposed award to be given by UiTM under his name were completely out of jealousy over his achievement.

“Because I’m too active, organising things sometimes in a big way, there are people who are jealous of me. Just for nothing, they are jealous of me,” said the politician last week during an exclusive interview with Internet protocol television (IPTV) station eTV.

Vehemently defending his proposal to introduce the ‘Ibrahim Ali Leadership Award’ , he described his critics as “shameful” and having “no class”.

“What the hell are these people talking about? The award is from me. I donate my own money just to give to any student who is credible, so what?

“If they are not happy, they create their own award lah . Because this is all jealousy. You see, all these came from PAS and opposition and (they are) shameful, have no class,” said an annoyed Ibrahim.

The Pasir Mas Independent MP said he has been actively involved in activism and politics since 1970 when he was still an UiTM student, and this impressive track record has made him the enemy of others.

“When I was in Umno, when I cooperated with PAS, anywhere I go, not only the opposite party, even Umno friends also jealous of me.

“I don’t want to be popular but it became that way so I become a victim of jealousy,” he said, adding that he has never been drawn into any corruption, sex and moral scandal.

The introduction of the award by UiTM to commend students who have proven they have “clear and consistent” principles in upholding their race has received brickbats from several quarters, including from within BN as well as opposition figures.

Although an official notice signed by UiTM vice-chancellor Sahol Hamid Abu Bakar ( left ) had been sent out in early June this year requesting nominations for the award, Sahol explained that it was merely a “survey” to gauge the response of lecturers, as the university authorities have yet to approve the award.

The university senate will make the final decision on the award during a meeting tomorrow.

Don’t censor ‘basket’ remark

When it was pointed out by the journalist that MCA Youth was among those opposing the award, Ibrahim lashed out at the youth movement.

“What is his (MCA) rights to oppose? Who is he? Why has this got anything to do with MCA? UiTM is for Malay and bumiputra students.

“So what? I don’t care. Who cares? Where is the so-called human rights? Where is democracy they are talking about? Democracy only for them? Human rights only for them? Basket!”

He even requested the journalist not to censor the “basket” remark.

“Put it on air, I don’t care, I don’t even lose one sen,” he said.

Without mincing his words, Ibrahim called MCA a “stupid and bloody fool party” and warned the Chinese-based party not to provoke Perkasa members.

He said history has shown that MCA relied on Malay voters to win seats during elections and Perkasa currently has 3,000 to 5,000 members in every parliamentary constituency.

“If these members don’t vote for MCA, what will happen?... I think it is a bloody fool party, stupid and bloody fool,” he said.

Ibrahim also stressed that he has made significant contribution to his alma mater including fighting for its recognition as an university, and establishing the Yayasan Budiman from his own pocket.

“So is it wrong? They all want to disturb even the internal affair of others, shameful lah , really they are basket!”
