Rig suggestion

Hello guys.. Long story short, my pal want me to build him a rig with 2k budget. And it stump me because i didn't follow pc tech for quite a long time. So, mind me asking the suggestion here?

Here's detail needed..

Budget - Rm2k
Hardware needed - Mobo, proc, ram, storage, gpu.
Monitor size - not sure, he'll plug into his 40" TV
Brand - prefer intel and nvidia, but other accepted if can reduce budget
Usage - Gaming mainly, at least mid lvl setting for latest game. He also wanna run those android emulator.

So, currently I am using 2x2gb Kingston 1333mhz ram and decided to upgrade it.

I grab 2x4gb Kingston 1600Mhz (KVR16N11/4) second-hand, can boot but day after that, my PC cannot POST, 4 short beep if plug this ram.
Do i get a busted RAM? Or it's because my board incompatible with this RAM?

Hi all. Wanna ask, currently i have two piece of 2gb Kingston value RAM (1333Mhz) running on DUAL CHANNEL MODE. I plan to upgrade the RAM to 8GB or more..

So, what I want to ask is:

1- can i just add other 2 pieces of value RAM? Does the dual channel mode work?

2- If question no.1 answer is NO, which is better, those ram that came in set of 2 or set of 4? I mean, install those '4x2gb RAM set' vs 2 set of '2x2GB RAM set'. This is because budget. If no problem, i plan to grab those 2x2gb set first and add same set later.

hi all. one of my fren work as cabinet designer. he mention the time needed to render is usually 2 hours. his computer is AMD (dunno socket/model yada2 but quite old, same time with c2d) and the gpu is unknown.. but i sure the gpu also came from same time, which is more than 6 yrs old IMO..

well, ignore his old PC build. He wanna build a new one specifically for rendering usage and maybe a bit dota-ing.. The question here, does rendering CPU or GPU extensive? if just GPU, i can suggest he upgrade GPU. if CPU, i can tell him build a new one from scratch. also, best if u guys can suggest the build for reference..

guys.. is this the right time to buy socket 1150 cpu? or should i wait newer socket with a ddr4 capable board? does anyone know when new socket will arrive?

Win7 Install problem

Hi all. I am trying to install Windows 7 into laptop 1Malaysia. But weird thing happen. I cannot install it. Got error that sound like 'cannot install because corrupted installation'. Fair enough, i grab new installation disc. Same error happen. Also I realize that the hard disk cannot be accessed during create partition AFTER the error occur. So i try to format whole disk and create new partition. Voila~ i can install and the laptop restart for secondary installation progress. BUT, after loading the windows animation, got error said something like 'installation not complete, no driver' and ask me to reinstall.

I was like WTF? Try several time also same problem. So i conclude the problem is the laptop. The problem is, what part of laptop that's broken? Is it HDD? Can anyone shed some light to me? I don't want to grab wrong spare part when the problem is something else.

CYBERJAYA - Isian semula telefon prabayar akan terus dijual dengan dikenakan Cukai Barang dan Perkhidmatan (GST).

Pengerusi Suruhanjaya Komunikasi dan Multimedia Malaysia (SKMM), Datuk Seri Dr Halim Shafie berkata, isian semula RM10 sebagai contoh akan dijual pada harga RM10.60 termasuk GST enam peratus.

Halim dalam kenyataan yang dikeluarkan SKMM berkata, agak mustahil‎ untuk pembekal perkhidmatan melaksanakan perubahan dalam masa dua hari dengan kembali kepada kadar pra-GST bermula 1 Mei, seperti yang diminta.

"Masalah untuk kembali kepada kadar pra-GST adalah kerana kerumitan untuk membuat konfigurasi semula kepada sistem, bukan hanya di pihak pembekal perkhidmatan bahkan juga bagi ejen pihak ketiga seperti institusi kewangan, pembekal pembayaran elektronik, pasar raya, stesen minyak dan ejen jualan lain yang berjumlah kira-kira 30,000," katanya.

Halim berkata ia juga melibatkan kos yang besar bagi pihak pembekal perkhidmatan dan ejen-ejen pihak ketiga selain stok baharu kad prabayar perlu dikeluarkan dan diagihkan ke seluruh negara.

Kenyataan SKMM itu dikeluarkan selepas Ketua Pengarah Kastam, Datuk Seri‎ Khazali Ahmad dalam satu sidang media sebelum itu yang dilaporkan mengumumkan harga kad prabayar kembali kepada harga asal seperti sebelum pelaksanaan GST,‎ mulai 1 Mei.

Ini bermakna, jika kad prabayar itu bernilai RM10 maka pengguna akan membayar RM10 mulai 1 Mei, katanya.

Menurut Khazali, beliau sendiri sudah mengarahkan kesemua empat syarikat telekomunikasi untuk mengekalkan harga asal berdasarkan kepada konsep 'tax inclusive' berkuat kuasa 1 Mei dalam satu surat semalam (28 April).

Halim berkata MCMC meminta keputusan lanjut mengenai perkara itu hanya dibuat selepas syarikat pembekal perkhidmatan selesai membuat kajian penilaian sama ada pelanggan memilih nilai isian semula yang lebih rendah selepas GST dikenakan atau sebaliknya. - Bernama

not really call for help, but i kinda wondering here.. if i use a higher than needed watt PSU, wat happen to electric bill? let's say my rig need about 500w, but i grab 700w one. or even double, the 1000w. reason is i have spared unit but with higher watt.

hello. i nid help here. i nid to make a vcd and i honestly dunno which software i can use to make it. used to have nero 7, but after reformat and upgrade to windows 7, it's been quite a while dealing with a CD.. heck, even DVD also long time not use/burn. so, can any of u suggest good free vcd maker?

Queation about NAS

hello. FYI, i've yet to own a NAS and planning to do so. but there's several question that halt me from buying it.
1. can i install game in NAS and run from other PC?
2. what happen to video playback when i streaming from NAS and other user downloading file from internet at the same time?
3. does NAS drive appear inside ur PC? i mean, can i save any file that i wanna download directly into NAS?
4. refer Q3, if yes, what happen when i simultaneously streaming available video and save new video/file into NAS? got stuttering?

i hope anyone can help me answer this question.

Asus EeePC 1011CX

Hi all. Just got a bundle of new Asus EeePC 1011CX, but this device is super unbearable for daily usage due to only 1gb RAM i think.. quick task manager check will show the RAM usage are almost 100% (around 900+ MB RAM used). is there any config that i can turn off to reduce the slow responce? best if can be simplified into batch command, so i just copy and run at other unit.

access hdd wirelessly

guys.. i have several hdd from my desktop that i wish the content inside can be accessed from tablet/phone through wifi without turning on my desktop. what item can do it? dunno the name/term. thinkin about pull those hdd out, attach with those said item and just turn it on only when i wanna access the hdd.

sry if wrong thread, but i hope mod can add those directory link which located under 'Logged in as:' thingy at the bottom of each page, because when using tablet, i need to slide way up to return to those link. using pc is fine coz i just need to press 'Home' button to move to top of page. worst when i view topic in /all mode..

Windows 8.1 Copy Recovery Drive option greyed out

Dear sifu,

First, if this is posted inside wrong thread, mod pls move it..

i try to copy my recovery drive into usb in order to free the used space because my storage is only 600mb left after windows update

however i encounter problem where the option greyed out. no problem, cause folks from internet have found the solution like THIS SITE. seem like the recovery is there, but windows kenot find the path, thus it decide that there's no recovery created.

the problem now is, following the step from said website, i CANNOT modify the partition using reagentc command prompt. using command reagentc /setosimage /path will return the message that read like 'cannot modify recovery in this device' or something like that.

has there anyone encounter same problem? is there anything i need to do, like take ownership or something?

Windows Recovery

hi guys. i wanna ask. i have new tablet armed with windows 8.1 pro. the problem is, the disk space is low, thus prompting me to uninstall microsoft office in order to free some space for game installation for my nephew. after awhile, i wanna roll back to use microsoft office. so i use official recovery option and success~

the question is, can i somehow make a SECONDARY recovery for those [uninstall office+install game] path, so i can load the official recovery whenever i wanna use office, and load secondary recovery when my nephew wanna play game.

is it possible?

using usb otg and charging at same time

i just wondering.. is there any adapter/cable that can make this happen? i mean, i have a tablet and can access my hdd with OTG cable. thinking of using that hdd while charging at the same time. is it possible? basically, the charger have both male and female port.

budget gaming

Heya. My fren is planning to build a new rig from scratch. He mainly will use this rig to play Dota2 and any web-based game, like those facebook game.

So, is it achievable with a 1.5k budget? He need all those part, from casing to keyboard. Oh, minus cd/dvd drive, as no real usage for his desktop. he have laptop and external, will copy from there if need to access any cd/dvd.

to sum it up..

PROCESSOR: no preference, but try to make it intel..
MOTHERBOARD: anything good..
RAM: 2gb enuff for dota2?
HDD: any size/brand.. bigger is merrier..
GPU: can build-in intel hdXXXX from core-i series be used to play dota2? if yes, can skip so he can add later
CASING: any brand..
PSU: i totally have no idea how many watt needed..
MONITOR: thinking for a full hd monitor, but do suggest as the budget is limited..
MOUSE/KEYBOARD: any.. dun include into budget also can. he can buy himself later..

Limit Wifi Speed

Hello guys. So, just wanna ask, can i somehow set my wifi to desired speed? Thinking of set it to 512kbps and open it without encryption, so guest can use it easily. Most of time I'll be on cable.

Gaming controller for PC

Heya. I planned to get a new gaming controller for my PC. So i need some suggestion, which controller can cater my need? I need a wireless one as the wired will be messy for my usage.

can all sifu enlight me which one is suitable? i need those controller that can be used with any pc game. the reason is that i currently use cheap AVF controller that work just fine until i cannot use it for certain game .

and teh budget is around RM150..
