Malaysia not doomed despite weakened ringgit, says Paul Low

PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia is not doomed, despite the weakened ringgit and issues of corruption, says Datuk Paul Low (pic).

Acknowledging that recent headlines have painted a distressing picture, Low pointed out that the country is still performing economically.

“Things are certainly not as gloomy as they have been made out to be,” he told an international delegation of graft fighters and accountability advocates during the opening of the International Anti-Corruption Conference (IACC) at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre on Wednesday.

Further punctuating his point, Low listed a series of Malaysia's economic successes like its low unemployment rate, a real GDP Growth average that was higher than the global average, a reduced poverty rate and being listed as the 20th most competitive nation by the World Economic Forum.

Nonetheless, Low said the Government needed to do more if it wished to attain high-income economy status, raising the need for Malaysia to portray itself as a high integrity society.

He added that the Government is committed in ensuring the independence of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) by proposing that it be given the autonomous right to employ and fire their own staff.

"The office of the Auditor-General will also be made to report to a bi-partisan special committee in Parliament, and the powers and scope of audit will be enlarged," said Low.

SYABAS water bill RM512

Hi guys,

just now collected my house water bill... shocked to see it's RM512...

all previous bill were RM0 coz used less than the subsidized water amount.

So i checked the water meter and realized it keeps on rolling... i just came back home and i stay alone, so the water should have stop coz no one is using yet inside.

It must have been faulty for whole month...

now the thing is i not sure what are the problem here.. leakage some where? or water meter faulty?

who should i contact first? straight call a plumber check or call SYABAS ppl? SYABAS ppl is plumber that will help check leakage??

never been in this situation before... how fast SYABAS ppl response? i staying in Setia Alam... i din even know where is the nearest SYABAS office

and the bill... so expensive, no money pay now... what should i do? is it possible to discount? or if proven faulty water meter? can i buat rayuan to waive it since i'd been staying here for 2 years and all my previous bill amount were RM0...

please help... anyone.. please

I'm surprise no one wanna open a topic about this. Well, understood of course as i have no interest at all on this movie at first. However upon watching the making of this movie, i'm kinda interested in the storyline. Turns out to be a great fun movie.

Personally i think this movie is beautiful and very touching. Worth a shot!!

Hi guys, anyone having problem wif their unifi iptv connecting to the server?

i kept on getting this prompt out window error:

ErrorCode: 102011

Failed to synchronize time. The TSTV feature may be unavailable.

and the error at the back is:

ErrorCode : 108001
The page cannot be displayed. Please reboot Set-Top Box.

Is this related to the recent UniFi connection problem? i just subscribe UniFi last Saturday and it was tested ok... just that tonight i try cannot d..

Any help will be much appreciated!!

When asked about a possible ticket price hike, Shahril said Prasarana would need to recoup its investments but the final decision would be made by the government.

“We have invested hundreds of millions not just on the ITS. We need to find ways to recoup the money,” he said.

News broke today that a teenager in China reportedly sold one of his kidneys for an iPad 2, after finding an online advertisment soliciting organs in exchange for cash.

"When I surfed the internet I found an advert posted online by agent saying they were able to pay RMB20,000 [yuan] to buy a kidney," the 17 year-old, identified as 'Zheng,' told Shenzhen TV according to the The Telegraph. 20,000 yuan is roughly $3,000 US.

The laptop is not for heavy usage or gaming, only for basic use like surfing nets or running simple applications. Sufficient enough without lagging will do.

This morning i read up the entertainment news on the paper. Then that sections showed 2010 top 10 chinese movies of the year wif highest rating and gross, and this movie shows up number 1. I was like why i never heard such a movie before.. Then i search up and this is the finding:

The film went over 30 drafts before Jiang Wen was happy with the script. Let the Bullets Fly was originally going to be released in September 2010 but was pushed back to December. The film broke several box office records when it was released in China and has received critical acclaim.
