Need help: what is wrong?

Pls help. Does anyone know what is wrong and how to solve. THanks.

Already have jaring internet under old phone line and decided to apply for streamyx 4MB using new telephone line. New telephone line fixed and streamyx technician came. The problem is that my computer cannot get the internet (for example: I can type lowyatnet in search box. Either only certain things can be seen or the website does not load at all). However, when he tried with his laptop, it works fine. He also clicked on my antivirus program and said that my antivirus program was working as can download things. THus, he said that its my computer problem and not internet problem.

THe problem is how can it be my computer problem when I can use the same computer to surf (exact same websites etc) using Jaring???? ALso, for my Jaring connection, the username ends with @my015.com. The technican said that my015.com will cause me not to get streamyx?? I don't understand. Surely streamyx will have its own username and password, thus what has my jaring internet got to do with it. Plus, the streamyx is using a new phone line that is completely different from the Jaring phone line. (FYI: at that time am not trying to connect both jaring and streamyx at the same time, so don't see why is jaring internet interfering with streamyx. )

Anybody know what is wrong and how to solve it. Currently I have asked them not to activate the streamyx account but I need to get back to them ASAP as to whether I want to cancel my streamyx account or activate it.

Thanks.

WTA :Custom rig

All you experts out there, appreciate your help.

As my HDD is going to fail plus my computer is a bit old, I'm begining to wonder maybe I will get a custom rig instead of just changing the HDD. So need advise on what to get :

1) As the internet in Malaysia is crappy, was wondering if there's any point getting a rig that is better than C2D as the speed of a C2D will be more than sufficient for the internet speed. Pls advise on whether my assumption is correct etc. No point in paying for a better system if it can't be used due to the internet bandwith and throttling. (All my computer activities are dependant on the internet). Plus I change my computers every few short years. But am willing to raise budget for better specs for speed improvement if not throttled by internet speed.

2) What rig would you suggest for the below:
Budget around $2-$3k
Rig should be something like the below:
--Motherboard ASUS
--processor speed around 2.7GHz (should I go for AMD or Intel?)
--should I go for DDR2 or DDR3? Heard that price difference is very little between the 2 now?
--RAM 2*2GB.
--Graphics card around the capabilities of a ATI Radeon 4670 HDMI (No Nvidia card pls).
--HDD 250GB or 500GB RPM 7200
--Windows 7 home premium (should I go for the32bit or 64 bit?)
--Monitor?
--Power supply?
--Casing?
--DVDRW?

Thanks

How to solve this HDD failure

Receive message S.M.A.R.T primary HDD bad, replace and remove.
From reading, I know that my HDD i going to fail. How do I go about replacing it base on the below information. Apologies as I am really not tech savvy.

I have a HDD that has 2 partitions ie C and D. C drive is where the programs are started etc and D drive is where I save my files.

1) From the above error message, am I correct in assuming that its my C drive that has problems and not D drive?

2) Is it possible to retire/disable C drive and repartition D drive into 2 partitions (eg: D & E drives) where D drive is where programs etc are started from and E drive is where I save all my files?

3) If so, how do I go about doing it and will it cause me to lose all my saved data?

Help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

Link to tools that may help internet performance

Not sure whether this is ok (mods pls remove if not) but thought I put up here as it may help some of us especially those who just want to have good internet (eg: avoiding bandwidth throttling/traffic shaping) but have problems understanding all this internet/IT stuff.

Below is a link for the various tools/softwares to help improve on internet performance. Some write up, ratings and download links.
http://www.majorgeeks.com/downloads13.html

You can choose other things eg: drivers by clicking on drivers on the left hand column (where there's a list of files)

For those who have experience some of the softwares eg: Cfos, Tuneup Utilites, you can also put your feedback (eg: what is the software and your ISP provider) here so that others can benefit.
Can a wireless modem be converted to a wired modem

Ok, I've searched the net but cannot satisfactorily say for sure whether this is possible. Thus, appreciate your help.

If I subscribe for the 4MB Streamyx Combo package which comes with a wireless modem, can I convert this wireless modem to wired meaning :

I will buy and connect a cable from phone port to the wireless modem and buy and connect a cable from wireless modem to the PC. Can anybody give me an answer on this. Thanks

Can 2 ISP share the same phone line at diff times

Can 2 ISP share the same phone lines at different times? Somehow, somebody registered for a ISP (not TM Net) under my phone line. I'm hoping to subscribe to TM Net under the same phone line. Agent told me that TM Net can still use the same phone line.

1) My question is whether I can use different ISP at different times with the same phone line? Example, in the morning, I use TM Net. At night I use Celcom. Is it possible. My intention is to have 2 ISP (backup so that when 1 ISP is down, I have another).

2) Also, will ther be a problem if I subscribe to TM Net using the existing phone, since the phone line is already under another ISP ($ is being paid monthly), although I don't think anything was set up for the other ISP.

Thanks a lot

Need help urgently on wired vs wireless package

Appreciate any help. I need a stable and speedy internet connection. Thus, am deciding between TM Net 4MB combo wi-fi (RM160) and and 4MB home plan (RM268).
My questions are (not savy in this IT thing) :

1) If I do decide on the 4MB combo wi-fi, can I still use it as a wired connection as wireless in my experience is slower and less stable than wired. That means can I have the wireless modem connected to the phone line and computer?

2) Also, if I chose to use the wireless modem as a wired one (if that is at all possible), can I connect 2 PCs (1 laptop and 1 desktop) to it. If so, do I need to get another thing such as a router to it? Wll this slow down my internet connection or cause TM Net to throttle my bandwidth. Am so sorry, but I read TM Net's fair usage policy etc and am afraid whether this classifies as P2P or something like that.

3) I am using this for trading US stocks (M'sian night time) and was wondering whether this type of application will cause TM Net to throttle my bandwdth. I understand that TM Net and other ISP do not like certain applications such as Bit Torrent and P2P and I'm thinking my application is not the type that will be 'throttled' by TM Net?

4) For any of you that trades US stocks, do you mind sharing what ISP and package you are using and whether you face a lot of problems with the speed and stability. Also, do you have a backup ISP (eg: subscribe to boh TM Net and Celcom) and if so the other ISP provider.

Thanks lot
