how to remove pop up advert in phone

hi, i have a problem.
every time i unlock my phone (note 3), i'll have an advertisement pop up immediately (usually games, google play, etc kind of advert). I must close the pop-up before i can access any apps.
it's kinda irritating and it's slowing down my phone performance.
Any idea on how to remove the pop-up? or any ways to find out which app that i downloaded was the culprit?
