4G Network Speed 'Broken'

A telco in Finland, Elisa, says it achieved 1.9 Gbps on its test 4G network. The network equipment was provided by Huawei.

Of course this was achieved in lab conditions so end-users won't see this kind of speed on their speed-test app anytime soon.

Full story here:
http://www.bbc.com/news/technology-37221565

Transferring Credit Between Hotlink FAST Accounts

Hi @#Hotlink,

I tried transferring RM10 between one Hotlink FAST account to another Hotlink FAST account (both under my name) but was unsuccessful.

I used the RED app (Top Up -> Share/Ask) to try and do this. The TAC was sent successfully to my receiving number but when I tried to confirm the transaction, I got the error message saying my receiving account was not entitled for this feature. I asked @HotlinkListens on Twitter and they suggested going through the UMB (*100*4#) but result is the same.

I'd like to ask:

Can Hotlink FAST accounts take advantage of this Share-A-Top-Up?

Must both sender account and receiver account have 30 or more days validity to successfully transfer credit this way?

Is there any other way of transferring credit between two Hotlink FAST accounts?

Thanks in advance.

A Japanese gymnast, Kohei Uchimura, having arrived in Rio de Janeiro for the Olympics, proceeded to play Pokemon Go in Rio and then got a data roaming bill of ¥500,000 (RM20,000) from his home telco.

Lucky for him, after negotiation the telco will only charge him ¥3,000 (RM120) a day while in Rio.

Full story here:
http://www.bbc.com/sport/olympics/36963170

Moral of story: Don't play Pokemon Go outside your own country unless you have a local data plan.

Digi Smart Prepaid vs Hotlink Fast (May-July 2016)

Right now I am on Digi Postpaid 78v but I find I am barely using the unlimited calls. So I am shopping around for something which gives me more internet data for less monthly fees.

The two plans that caught my eye are Digi Smart Prepaid and Hotlink Fast since they both offer free weekend data.

I've bought a Hotlink Fast pack and am testing out the features. Since my (only) phone is already occupied with my Digi mainline, I've popped this Hotlink SIM into a MiFi for testing purposes.

The reason for this thread is for my own self-education but feel free to give your input if you have something to share.

Most likely I will make the switch to Prepaid sometime in June. In the meantime I'll just try and learn as much as I can about these prepaid plans.

Affordable data roaming when in Singapore

The following is true at the time of writing (6/5/2016) but may change at the discretion of the telcos mentioned.

U Mobile's Data Backpack

Who can buy:
All subscribers of Hero P70, i90, i130, UD95 or UD135 postpaid plans

How to buy:
No need to specifically buy this package. Just be a subscriber of the abovementioned plans and have international roaming enabled.

Price, how much data and valid period:
It's free. As much data as your plan's quota allows and as long as your plan is active.

Partnering Singapore Telco(s):
Starhub

Pros:
No need to pay anything extra, which is unique among all Malaysian telcos' roaming data offerings.

Cons:
Have to subscribe to one of U Mobile's specific postpaid plans, which may not be everyone's cup of tea.

Misc. notes:
Also available for some other Asia-Pacific nations.

Xpax's Singapore Internet Pack

Who can buy:
All Celcom Prepaid Xpax & Legacy Plans Subscribers (IOX, Xpax24, X2, Xpax, Xmid, Xmax, Xlite, 1Malaysia Plan, New U.O.X, New S.O.X, U.O.X, and S.O.X, Magic SIM) with an active account.

How to buy:
Text SMS message "SGNET38" to 28882

Price, how much data and valid period:
Price is RM38 and this gives you 500MB data with 30 days validity.

Partnering Singapore Telco(s):
Starhub and M1

Pros:
Can use data in Singapore as well as Malaysia. So if you came back from Singapore and didn't use up all the 500MB there, you can continue using the data until the quota is depleted at home in Malaysia.

Cons:
Not as much data offered as U or Hotlink. WARNING: In the event the allocated quota is finished while in Singapore, your internet use will be charged by PAYU basis.

Misc. notes:
Exclusively for roaming in Singapore and no other foreign country.

Hotlink's 30Days Data Pass

Who can buy:
All Hotlink subscribers are eligible for 30D pass.

How to buy:
Dial *100*7*1*3# or text SMS message "BUY SG30D" to 20008

Price, how much data and valid period:
Price is RM38 and this gives you 1GB data with 30 days validity.

Partnering Singapore Telco(s):
SingTel
Edit: According to @grazy at post #4, the service is SingTel on 4G LTE only.

Pros:
More value than the Xpax offering and quite convenient for Hotlink users.

Cons:
Unlike U Mobile's or Xpax's offerings, you cannot consume any unused data once you're back in Malaysia.

Misc. notes:
In the event the quota is finished, the user can continue using the internet at the reduced speed of 32kbps at no extra cost.
BonusLink for DiGi users

DiGi is moving all its Postpaid customers including Broadband customers to a BonusLink points loyalty programme.

You are supposed to register your BonusLink account with your DiGi account, but watch out, I found that my DiGi accounts had already been linked to someone else's BonusLink account, but I could change the details in the OCS.

I am still not sure if in future you can claim rebates against your monthly DiGi account or not.
