So.. I have a high resolution screen..but I don't know how to enable Snapview on my windows 8.1

It seems when i open certain apps, it lets me open snap view..

eg Chrome and OneNote

but lets say i want to open Word and Chrome, it doesnt let me

desktop won't power off after shutdown

My desktop doesn't seem to power off after shutting down.

The motherboard and CPU and fans all keep running.

The only thing that has changed is that I took out my GPU so I could test others. I've now put back my original GPU

Since then, holding the power button does not shut down my desktop and neither does clicking shut down on the windows screen.

Could this be due to me frying my GTX 970? Seems the only possibility as that is all that's changed

My monitor is arriving in about a week.

I picked this monitor over a 1080p TV 65" of similar price. I hope this is worth it since its 1/4 the size of a TV, and I already have a monitor.

Anybody have any opinions on this? I need reassurance I made the right choice! LOL

Hi,

I recently upgraded into Windows 8.1 from my windows 8

I installed it via USB boot

For now, I want Windows to boot from my SSD (termed HDD1) rather than my HDD (termed HDD2)

However, whenever i turn on my desktop, Windows presents me with a choice to boot from HDD1 or HDD2. It is as if it thinks that there are two separate OS installed.

Is there a way I can change the boot order so it automatically opens up my SDD first. For now, I either have to manually click HDD1 or wait 5 seconds and let Windows pick HDD1 as default

Hardware help for immersive gaming

Hey guys! I have a few questions. This is going to be lengthy, as I am a terrible builder

I barely have time for gaming now that I've started working . I expect 1 hour daily. Hence, I want to maximize my enjoyment with as much eye candy as possible, because now that I have money, I have no time. I love 3D gaming, but not all games are compatible.

Games I play often are call of duty, Dota, and skyrim and games I plan to play in the future is evil within, shadow of mordor, etc

My rig:
Monitor: Asus VG278h 3D 120hz monitor
CPU: Intel i5 2500k
Mobo: Gigabyte P67a-UD4 lga1155
Ram- 8gb
Harddrive- 1TB WD blue and MX100 500gb SSD
PSU: 1200W corsair gold
GPU: GTX 580
Case: bit Fenix neo

I plan on spending some cash for the brack friday bunduru next month. I don't need prices as I'm living in Canada at the moment

Questions:
1. What monitor/TV screen should I get as an alternative to my current one? I will be keeping my Asus monitor as a spare for the 3d, but I want something else. Also I have no living room TV Eg. 1440p vs another 1080p (TV screen versus monitor versus weird long 30" screens)

2. What else should I change in my PC assuming I am going for the GTX970?

3. Can you suggest a better case? I sold my HAF 932 fullbuilder
to buy a brand new bitfenix neo but it doesn't close all the way sadly

Am I missing a cable connection? (solved)

I just recently rebuilt my PC after almost half a year in storage. Problem is that I'm a bit rusty and my PC doesnt seem to be able to stay powered on. It turns on for a sec with only the fans running but no MOBO light then turns off. No POST

I don't have any spare hardware.

I'm hoping it's just a connection issue.

I have a GTX580 1.5gb currently. However, I found a deal for 2x ASUS GTX 660 for rm600 each (new)

Should I upgrade? Certainly, it looks like a good deal, as im swapping an old card for a brand new one, but it will be a hassle for me, as I then have to sell my old card

I have a GTX580, and its just not cutting it for my Skyrim needs. I play on a 3D monitor, so my frame rate is 1/2. Should I get a 2nd one and SLI or just buy a new graphics card?

A friend is offering to sell their asus gtx 580 for rm600 to me.

Advice?

Update: Honestly, I have no budget. But I need an NVIDIA GPU since I run 3Dvision. However, I dont want to waste money unnecessarily, so not interested in GTX Titan, etc.

Pretty much, my situation is.
I own a GTX 580. I can buy a 2nd one for rm550, or easily sell mine for rm450. I'm playing Skyrim with mods which eats up my GTX 580 1.5gb Vram, so I was interested in any new cards that can help me, and also to upgrade in general

So far, the only thing that looks viable is the GTX770 4GB Vram, but ive been told it isnt worth it

Mahal..PTPTN saddles fresh grad with debt? I thought its the other way round? Saddling us taxpayers for years to come

Hi. My desktop is now just spare parts (see siggy) that I plan to bring along w me. International flights. 2 stops. 43/2kg bag allowance. My question is..

1. Should I carry-on or check them in?

2. Wrap them in clothes or bubble wrap better? Will the clothes cause static that can dmg my GPU,etc?

3. I'm particularly worried for my HDD. Do I need to buy a casing for it? Will the X-ray machines damage it? Better to carry on or not?

The boxes are much to big to bring along.Warranty not valid there anyways.

Recommend Gaming Laptop

Hi. I'm looking for a gaming laptop. Budget 5k-6k. Need a high end graphics card. Solely for gaming (no need SSD, lots of ram, blah)

I am flying off to the UK to study on April 7. The prices of laptops in England is freaking expensive bcuz of the VAT. My old laptop is dead, so I need a new one.

My question is: should I wait for a month or so for Kepler gtx680 and ivy bridge?

So far, I am considering ordering this: pc specialist.co.uk (15" 1080p, i5 2670, hd6990, 4gb ram, 500gb HDD, rest mediocre) for RM5800. Is this worth it?

Another option is pick up a laptop on msia before flying off. I wish I can get the MSI GT70 but I'm leaving before then.

Advice?

WTA about VRAM

Hi. I want to know about VRAM, or specifically, how important is it.

I play battlefield 3 and skyrim (heavy modded). I'm told these games take up slot of VRAM

I've been told below that SLI-ing my GTX 580 1.5gb isn't gonna make my VRAM 3gb. This will make it difficult as I'm a skyrim mod whore.

I bought my card for rm1800 last year. I think I can sell it for rm1000. I can get a gtx680 for Rm1500 (USA). Will the upgrade increase my performance for skyrim/BF3 @120hz significantly? Or will a second gtx580sli be better? I don't really play anything else.

Essentially, it is now New GTX680 vs 2nd hand gtx580 1.5th SLI, with me having to top up estimated RM500 and RM800 respectively.

What's better?

I'm got friends in US, so I can buy at cheap amazon/new egg prices.

P.s if any1 interested in a gtx 580, pm me.

Hi. I'm going overseas to study in Canada.

Right now, i have a Dell U2311h monitor and my desktop (specs in siggy) powered by a Silverstone strider 1200W PSU. I am aware that the voltages of north america/malaysia is different. As i bought these items in malaysia, can I use them in Canada?

Will i need a transformer? or will a simple adapter suffice? None of these items came with plugs that fit the 2 vertical pins of North America (110V).

<Techno G> Well, it depends. I'm not sure. I'm looking online now, but last time when I lived in the US, i fried my old M'sian Pentium 4 PC's PSU because i didn't use a transformer. An adapter just changes the pins, but you need a step up/down transformer to adjust voltages. This was 8 years ago..so i'm not sure this info still applies.

Hi. Sadly, it seems that my 1 year old Gigabyte P67A-UD4-B2 motherboard and GTX580 1.5gb is rather outdated as its been eclipsed by the Z-series and 3gb models. I am continuing my studies overseas next month so I am selling my case, but I plan on bringing the rest over.

My question is: Is it better selling these items and buying the newer models? How much can I get if i sell?
Also, i realised that im using a B2 model instead of B3..can i still do something about it?

I'l rather not carry alot of things as i have alot to bring over..
I plan to play skyrim fully modded in 3D..

Logically, i think it is more cost friendly if i keep them, but what are the differences with the newer models?
