GPS on SGS2

I've been using the phone for over a month now and all was good other than the GPS experience.
It takes a long time to get the satellite signal and sometimes not at all.
Currently using papago X5...just wondering if I'm the only one who's having this problem?
How do I...get a better GPS experience?
I'm very bad at memorizing ways and GPS is definitely one major disappointment now...TT
