MS SQL getting the Today's date

How can I get current date of the day for my SQL statement without the current time using getdate()?

For example, getdate() returns 05/01/2008 16:00

I just need the 05/01/2008 value.

I got a table field which store the date/time of a customer entered a queue in MM/DD/YYYY format.

For example: 3/14/2008 5:00:00 PM

I would like to find out how long the customer has been waiting in the queue. Is there any SQL statement which can get the
current time - 3/14/2008 5:00:00 PM which would give the total time waiting inside the queue?

I only need the total time in queue(hh:mm:ss) only and not the date.

Hope you guys can help and understand what im trying to say
