PKR split over vote to oust Najib

PKR lawmaker Hee Loy Sian may have succeeded in getting Parliament to accept a motion of no confidence against Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, but his party remains split about supporting the unprecedented move.

A party source said that one group in PKR believes Najib should be removed immediately, while another group wants him to serve out his term.

The split in the PKR ranks comes in spite of opposition MPs openly calling for Najib's removal through Parliament for the past three months.

"One group believes that the longer Najib stays as prime minister, the worse it will be for Malaysia and he should be removed quickly," the source told The Malaysian Insider on condition of anonymity.

"The other group believes that Najib should stay until the 14th general election, because it will make things easier for the opposition to win Putrajaya."

The source said the two groups also disagreed over whether they should work with former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad to unseat Najib.

"Dr Mahathir is the most vocal in calling for parliamentarians to remove Najib through a no-confidence vote. Some PKR leaders think this effort should not be supported," said the source.

"The other group thinks that cooperating with Dr Mahathir is the best option right now in order to get rid of Najib."

Last Friday, PKR secretary-general Rafizi Ramli admitted that getting the no-confidence motion through Parliament will be "difficult".

The motion, proposed by Hee, was listed as the 25th item on Parliament's order paper, and Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Azalina Othman has said government matters will be given priority over private members' motions.

PKR vice-president N. Surendran played down the division within his party and instead said he believed Barisan Nasional (BN) lawmakers would join the opposition in voting against Najib in the Dewan Rakyat.

"We believe it can be done and that BN parliamentarians will put the country's interests first.

"That's the issue. We are not concerned about the number of opposition lawmakers," the Padang Serai MP told The Malaysian Insider.

PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar, while not wanting to be drawn on the division in the party over the motion, said unseating Najib and saving Malaysia hinged on the courage of the Dewan Rakyat speaker.

"The first prerequisite involves gaining the approval from the speaker, since Parliament prioritises executive matters.

"Second, even if it is approved, it would require courage from government lawmakers to vote in favour of it, after it is debated in the Dewan Rakyat," said the Lembah Pantai MP.

But she added that the public must "wait and see" whether all opposition MPs would support the vote of no confidence.

The current split over ousting Najib comes weeks after PKR was reported to be at loggerheads over the launch of Pakatan Harapan.

Surendran, however, said that issue had already been resolved, and the party now fully backed its president, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.

He said all PKR leaders would support the motion of no confidence, and insisted the party was united.

"That has nothing to do with it, that was just us asking for the PKR Supreme Council meeting to be held. There is no split in PKR.

"We are united behind the president. That discussion had nothing to do with the no-confidence vote." – October 19, 2015.
- See more at: http://www.themalaysianinsider.com/malaysi...h.YdXwjzA0.dpuf

He is not a good person, We don’t need him here

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 8 — Malacca does not need Mohd Ali Baharom or his rally of 10,000 #Merah169 protesters, state Chief Minister Datuk Seri Idris Haron said after the former soldier promised to seek justice for an immigration officer who was allegedly beaten by Chinese gangsters.

According to The Star today, Idris also bluntly added that he did not even want Mohd Ali, who is also known as Ali Tinju, mentioned to him nor did he need the latter’s help in running Malacca.

“Don’t even mention his (Ali’s) name. He is not a good person.

“We don’t need him here. We want a harmonious state and we respect all races. I don’t need him to teach me how to administer my state,” he was quoted as saying in local English daily The Star.

Ali Tinju said yesterday that the #Merah169 protesters will head to Malaca this Saturday to rally for what he described as justice for a Malay immigration officer allegedly beaten by Chinese gangsters last week.

The former soldier, who heads the Association of Armed Forces Veterans, warned that Malacca Raya, the location where the officer was said to have been assaulted, “would not be safe”, but insisted his warning was not a threat against the Chinese community there, but just a “general” advice for everyone to keep safe.

Malacca police chief Datuk Chuah Ghee Lye said yesterday evening that they will question Ali Tinju for allegedly spreading public fear with his warning that Malacca Raya will be unsafe during a rally planned for this Saturday.

Chuah also criticised the #Merah169 protesters for announcing a public rally in the state for this Saturday, the day of Governor Tun Mohd Khalil Yaakob’s investiture ceremony.

Malacca Action Group for Parents in Education (MAGPIE) has also expressed concern as the rally will also be in proximity to schools where students are expected to attend National Sports Day events the same day.

It was reported that a group of men had attacked 19 Immigration enforcement officers over a raid the team had conducted on an entertainment outlet on September 30.

On October 3 English daily New Straits Times reported that five suspects have been arrested to facilitate investigations while Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said the police were on the hunt for more individuals linked to the case.

Ali Tinju was previously investigated for sedition over remarks he made ahead of a riot at the Low Yat Plaza shopping mall in July, which was triggered by a false rumour that a Malay youth was cheated by Chinese traders.

The Attorney-General’s Chambers did not, however, file charges.
- See more at: http://www.themalaymailonline.com/malaysia...h.ipKJsQn2.dpuf

Just SUE them all for defamation

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 8 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak should sue everyone, including international media, who has accused him of taking money from state-owned 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) and not just select individuals, former MCA president Tan Sri Ong Tee Keat said today.

Speaking to reporters at an event in Seri Kembangan, Ong said he was surprised that Najib would take such action against another former MCA president Tun Dr Ling Liong Sik as the prime minister had refrained from mounting legal challenges against others who made similar claims.

“He has every right to sue and if he feels the remark is some form of defamation, then going by this standard, why did he not do the same to others who made similar remark, sometimes more scathing?” the former transport minister said.

“There has been numerous press reports, some from international media. Would he then initiate legal action against them as well?”

When asked if Najib should also take legal action against former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad for his repeated calls for resignation, Ong said, “Yes”.

Najib has threatened to sue Dr Ling for suggesting in an article over the weekend that he misappropriated the public funds.

In a letter of demand sent to Dr Ling, he was asked to apologise and failure to do will result in legal action.
- See more at: http://www.themalaymailonline.com/malaysia...h.GNUB2qB8.dpuf

Duel between Chinese vs Bugis warrior

PETALING JAYA: Umno rebel Anina Saadudin today gave the thumbs up to former MCA chief Ling Liong Sik for his decision to take up Prime Minister Najib Razak’s challenge to a battle in the courtroom.

Anina told FMT she was keen to see a duel between a Chinese and a Bugis warrior.

As if fearing that Ling would back down at the last minute, she egged him on by assuring him that he was doing nothing less than standing up for justice.

Ling recently accused Najib of “stealing the people’s money.” Yesterday, he released a press statement saying Najib’s lawyers had demanded a retraction and an apology, failing which he would be sued for defamation. He declared that he was ready to fight Najib in court.

Anina acknowledged Najib’s right to sue Ling, but she said, “I hope Tun Ling Liong Sik will prove to be a Chinese warrior with the courage to seek justice for himself against Datuk Seri Najib, who has claimed to be a Bugis warrior.”

She expressed confidence in the integrity of the Malaysian judiciary, saying, “May all 28 million Malaysians continue to receive justice.”

http://www.freemalaysiatoday.com/category/...hinese-warrior/

Malay Rulers concerned about 1MDB, not NAJIB

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 8 — Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein warned all parties today against interpreting the recent statement by the Council of Rulers on the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) controversy as a call for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s resignation.

Coming to Najib’s defence, the Umno vice president said the Malay Rulers were only expressing concern about the debt-ridden state investment firm and not Najib’s leadership.

He said if the rulers had been unhappy with Najib’s leadership, they would have been upfront about it and not taken issue instead with 1MDB.

"Maybe the 1MDB issue was highlighted in the rulers’ meeting and they want to put it on record... this issue has already been discussed by us in the Cabinet under the PM's leadership.

"This is not something so out of the blue. If they don't believe in PM, if they really believe that, I believe they would say it outright, they would not say it like this using 1MDB.

"If they don't believe in him, they don't believe in him lah," he told reporters at the Defence Ministry today.

Hishammuddin also told the prime minister’s detractors not to put words into the mouths of the rulers by making wrongful assumptions.

"That is a speculation and assumption which it is not necessary. There is no point. You are trying to put words into the mouth of our sultans and raja-raja. That is not fair," he said.

Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin who was also present at the press conference, said he agreed with the stand taken by Hishammuddin in defence of the PM.

“I agree with what he has said,” he said, and refused to comment further.

Hishammuddin also said the public should not be too quick to take aim at Najib, when the prime minister had already said Putrajaya was looking to solve the 1MDB crisis in a given time frame.

“Whichever party that has committed wrongdoing under the law is not exempted and should be brought to the face of justice,”Hishammuddin said.

He added that anyone who is found guilty in the 1MDB imbroglio should be charged without fear or favour.

In a rare statement issued on Tuesday through the Keeper of the Rulers’ Seal Datuk Seri Syed Danial Syed Ahmad, the Malay Rulers said that investigations into 1MDB must be made public in order to show that nothing was being hidden in the probe on the state-owned investment firm.

Improper handling of the 1MDB controversy and related investigations could also affect the economy and even threaten national security, the rulers said.

This is the first time the Conference of Malay Rulers has issued a public statement on the 1MDB controversy that has gained international attention.

In March, Najib directed the PAC and the Auditor-General to investigate 1MDB following allegations of mismanagement and impropriety linked to its RM42 billion debt.

It was later announced that a special taskforce, comprising the Attorney-General’s Chambers, the Royal Malaysia Police, Bank Negara Malaysia and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, was also investigating the firm.

All the probes were later discontinued or postponed, however, following a shakeup in Putrajaya, the removal of Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail as Attorney-General, and the transfers of investigators who were involved in the probe.

Although investigations in Malaysia appear to be stalled, investigators in other countries have since initiated their own probes into 1MDB and related entities, notably in the US, the UK, Switzerland, the SAR of Hong Kong and Singapore.
- See more at: http://www.themalaymailonline.com/malaysia...h.So2EXGge.dpuf

Dystopian Movies

QUOTE

Massive dehumanization, totalitarian government, rampant disease, post-apocalyptic terrains, cyber-genetic technologies, societal chaos and widespread urban violence are some of the common themes in dystopian films which bravely examine the ominous shadow cast by future.

A dystopia is a fictional society that is the antithesis or complete opposite of a utopia, an ideal world with a perfect social, political and technological infrastructure. A world without chaos, strife or hunger. A world where the individual potential and freedom is celebrated and brought to the forefront.

In contrast, the dystopian world is undesirable with poverty and unequal domination by specific individuals over others. Dystopian films often construct a fictional universe and set it in a background which features scenarios such as dehumanizing technological advancements, man-made disasters or class-based revolutions.

http://snarkerati.com/movie-news/the-top-5...es-of-all-time/

I am now collecting these kind of movies. for those who shared the same taste, please recommend some newER ones, mid 90s onwards.
