Anyone received their new car during the FMCO?

I ordered a Mazda CX5 2.5T I think a day after the FMCO started. Have already signed the loan agreement documents, and my SA has even gotten my number plate already.

But apparently all production lines are halted at the moment so I've no idea when I'll only be able to receive the car. Is this true? It's crazy to think that no new cars are being delivered at all throughout the first phase of the FMCO.

If there's nothing I can do to expedite the process, I might actually cancel the order altogether and wait to see if there are better options on the market after the FMCO ends (God knows when this will be).

Pros and Cons of the Mazda CX5 2.5 Turbo?

Hi there.

I'm about to place an order for the Mazda CX5 2.5 Turbo soon. Unfortunately, gotta give up my hot hatch for something more practical and spacious as I recently "upgraded" to become a father.

Would like to know if there are any drawbacks to this particular variant? Any reliability issues when it comes to the turbo? And what are some good things about it?

Due to the MCO (again), I won't be able to test drive the car at the showrooms. So my experience with it is as much as I've gotten from watching reviews on YouTube. My wife currently drives a Mazda 3 so I'm already quite familiar with the brand, and to be honest, would've loved to have a CX5 with the updated interior (like the CX30 and the new M3) but I can't wait anymore, as my wife's SA said a new CX5 will likely only come end of 2022, plus it might take years for the new CX5 to be equipped with a turbo engine.

So yeah, any thoughts on the 2.5T variant? I'm going to book this purely out of blind faith. I was actually considering the X70 as well but I think despite all the bells and whistles that the Proton offers, it's probably still not as refined as the CX5. Was also looking at the VW Tiguan Allspace R Line, but the safety features are sorely lacking and it's also more expensive. Another option would be a demo unit XC40, but the interior is a little too small for my liking plus I heard the maintenance is gonna bleed me in the future.

Thanks for the input guys!

LG C9 65in OLED

I'm in the market for a HDMI 2.1 TV and got offered a deal for the LG C9 TV for RM9.5k.

I'm in no particular rush to get it since the PS5 is not out yet. Just wondering if it's worth to get it now for that price or should I wait and see what comes from Sony X9000H or even other brands?

Hi guys,

Out of the blue, the ZTE modem is malfunctioning. The TM logo keeps blinking, and there are no other lights. Just a white blinking light at the TM logo.

Tried moving the adapter to other sockets but still the same problem. No thunderstorms today. It just randomly happened.

May I know what could be the issue? Thanks!

Hi guys.

My renovation is about to finish. It's a 1,100 sq. ft. apartment. I'd like to get someone to come in and clean the place thoroughly before my furniture and appliances arrive this coming weekend.

The location of the property is in SS2, PJ. May I get some recommendations on cleaners who are skilled in post-renovation cleaning? I won't be able to supply them equipment of any sorts.

Thanks!

New TV and Sound System for New House

Hi there!

My new house is currently undergoing renovation, and it is expected to complete in 2 weeks' time.

Anyway, just a little background, I'm not much of a connoisseur when it comes to audio/visual, so I'm not looking for something technically complex.

I've already gotten a 50" Sharp Full HD LED TV for my bedroom, and I'll be pairing it with a Philips sound bar which I currently own.

What I need help with is the big boy, the one in my living room. I'm looking for a 60' Ultra HD (4k) TV but I've no idea which brand to go for. I've spoken to numerous friends and sales people in electrical shops, and they always tell me that Sharp is the best brand. However, I'm not too fond of Sharp's design, as I'll be hanging the TV on my wall so aesthetics do play an important part. Are there any suggestions I should look at? My budget is preferably around the RM7k range. I'm willing to settle for 55' if there's nothing good within the 60' range.

For speakers, I've decided to go for something really simple - a Sonos Playbar. I don't want to meddle with 2.1 or 5.1 setups because both my wife and I are not audiophiles. We live in an apartment anyway so we can't use loud volumes, especially at night, which is when we usually use the TV. But, if you do have suggestions for a better sound bar, do let me know too! I've also been looking at the new Philips Fidelio, but the reviews don't seem too good.

Thanks guys!

Trading in current car with a new car

Hi guys, just a quick question.

I'll be trading in my current car (outstanding RM40k with bank) to a new-car dealer.

Here's the scenario. The dealer told me that a their "panel" 2nd hand car dealer will be dealing with me, and the new car dealer which I'll be buying my new car from will not be involved.

He said the 2nd hand car dealer will pay off my outstanding balance owed to the bank, and any remaining (RM10k, since he's buying my car for RM50k) he will issue the money to me.

Is this the right procedure? Are there any documents I need to take note of?

Secondly, the RM50k offered by the 2nd hand car dealer was just a verbal agreement. He looked through my car and offered the price.

Question is, when should I start settling the documents with the dealer? Also, will the dealer lowball me at the last minute and say he'll buy it for RM45k instead? If that happens, do I have the rights to cancel my order my the new car even after my loan is approved? This is because the extra money I'm getting from selling the car will be used to finance the down payment.

My first time trading in a used car with a new one. Appreciate the help, guys.

Let's not talk cars for a minute

Greetings automotive enthusiasts.

Recently I've been looking to upgrade my car and I've already made a decision on the make and model (that's a topic for another day). I will be putting in the deposit for the car this Friday and just like any other average car-buyer, I'm as nervous as I am excited about this new purchase I'm about to make.

I've no qualms about the car I'm about to buy (99% of the reviews I read endorsed it to be the best in its class), but I'm more concerned about the after-sales experience that awaits me at the horizon. I currently own a 5-year-old Toyota and I've to say that Toyota has been nothing but excellent in their service from the moment I stepped foot into their Section 19 showroom 5 years ago up until today.

Now that I'm moving on to a continental make, I've been reading in other forums regarding the horror stories about various dealerships and service centres. Some are more or less expected (Naza, SDAC etc.) while some caught me by surprise (many complained about VW!).

I'm here to seek discussion regarding your past or recent experience, GOOD OR BAD, as a car owner, with your dealership or service centre(s). Reading up on these issues have been giving me a cold feet regarding my potential purchase in 3 days' time.

Feel free to share your stories, be it a positive or negative one, or your opinions on which brand is improving and on the other end of the spectrum, which company is giving you more trouble than it's worth.

Do note, this is not a discussion about Brand A's cars are better than Brand B's cars. It's solely about the service level of our automotive industry.

Many thanks!

Time for an upgrade

Hi guys,

Just a little dilemma here. Before I proceed with my options, there are some criteria that I have regarding my cars.

1) Preferably a sedan.

2) Not more than RM150k.

3) Reasonable maintenance cost.

4) Reliable and doesn't cause me to spend more time in service centres than on the road.

5) 2nd hand is acceptable, but new is preferred.

6) Comfort and cabin convenience primary. Power is secondary.

I'm currently driving a Toyota Vios, which I bought in early 2008 after I sold off my first car - Proton Waja. Now, I'm looking to let my mum use my Vios and sell her very problematic 2001 Ford Focus.

Because I'm very sensitive towards the maintenance cost of my cars, I've omitted the 2nd hand Audi A4 (my dream car) from my options. After much scouting, my list dwindled to the following options:

A) Volkswagen Jetta
Perhaps the most powerful among the cars I have in mind and the badge probably carries more weight than the rest. However, it is also the most expensive and for that amount of money, I think its features don't match up (no DRLs, no HID). You're probably paying for the engine and gearbox, which I've to admit is really the best in its class. I could have chosen a Golf TSi, but of course, hatchbacks are really not my thing. Another thing I worry about is the gearbox, which I heard is expensive to maintain, and repair.

B) Ford Focus Titanium+
I actually went for a test drive and I loved this car. It has all the bells and whistles to establish this model as the leading choice in its class. However, I'm not too impressed with the interior, especially the console area. Also, my family's horror experience with the old Ford Focus is making me break a cold sweat about purchasing this car. Of course, the Focus in my house is the US version, and things might have changed since. The price is also a very good attraction.

C) Mazda 3 2.0 Sedan
I'm still on the fence over this car. On one hand, I'm looking to upgrade to a continental ride, on the other hand I really like the looks of the Mazda 3. But, this model has been around for quite some time and I'm not too sure if I'd want to spunk RM120k on something that is going to be replaced soon? I'm also not very familiar with Mazda cars and how much effort, time and money it will take to keep them in good shape.

D) Peugeot 408 Turbo
Love that it has power, yet I'm underwhelmed by its interior (steering doesn't even have controls). Been told countless of horror stories regarding Peugeot cars, and this option is probably sitting at the last place in my consideration list. The only reason it made this far is due to its attractive price tag.

E) Toyota Prius Luxury
The wild card. I really loved its interior, and although it is a hatchback, I actually kinda grew to admire its looks. Price is really high as compared to other hybrid options out there, but I do fancy Toyota's service quality and the general reliability found in their cars. Still unsure about this as I'm not too familiar with the hybrid game. Also, it's quite an old model.

Would appreciate some input from you guys who are more well-versed in the automotive language. I'm not really into cars so there might be better options out there that I've overlooked.

Cheers guys!

Urgent help needed!

Hi guys,

Here's the story. 3 months back, I fell victim to a credit card fraud relating to my Apple ID (over RM6k worth of apps bought from Appstore). After that, I got it sorted with my bank, and everything went back to normal (I could continue buying apps from Appstore).

However, 2 weeks back, I was on my iPad and when I tried updating some apps, I got a notification error saying "Your Apple ID has been disabled." I did a Google search and most of them seem to be "Your Apple ID has been disabled due to security reasons.", but mine is just disabled.

May I know what's going on and more importantly, what can I do to rectify this problem? I'm not sure if this is related to my previous experience with fraud, but *touchwood* thus far no transaction has been made on my card yet.

Help guys? Thanks.

Probably the most confused buyer in the world

Greetings to all.

First off, would like to apologise for creating a new thread. I understand that there's a pinned recommendation thread up there, but seeing that I need some sort of urgent help here, I promise I'll get this thread closed and buried for good as soon as I get some answers and help from you fellow gurus.

Okay, here's the story. I was never interested in cameras (though I have a DSLR), and as much as I consider myself as a tech-savvy person, photography is just not my thing. I do understand the basic jargon like aperture, ISO and shutter speed, but nothing more.

On the other hand, my girlfriend (used to be) an avid photographer. She spent thousands upon thousands of RM on her Nikon DSLR and the lenses and the whatnots. However, for the past 2 years, she stopped using it due to the size and weight of the camera and the accessories that complement it.

She always lament to me in deep regret that as much as she loves photography, she can't seem to find the time (or strength) to lug that heavy equipment out anymore. Few months back, she attempted to sell off her DSLR and switch to a Micro 4/3 instead. However, since she had trouble finding a buyer, this matter was put to rest.

Here's the million-dollar question. Her birthday is coming up soon, and I think it would be nice to get her a Micro 4/3 camera. But as mentioned above, I'm as knowledgeable when it comes to cameras as Americans come to football.

I'm not looking for the best and most expensive Micro 4/3 camera. I'm looking for the most VALUE FOR MONEY camera. My budget is somewhere in between RM1.5k - RM2.5k. I think most of her photography revolves around shooting her family members, her dogs, or maybe some outing shots when we go out around town or something. Can you guys recommend something that is considerably good, not overly expensive and something that can reignite the passion of an (ex)-DSLR user?

Another thing, will the lenses she has for her DSLR be compatible with Micro 4/3 cameras? Sorry if that is a really stupid question.

Will delete this topic by tomorrow. Thanks in advance!

Edit: to give you an idea of what kinda photography she likes, maybe you can see the sales thread of her DSLR Here

VW Polo 1.2 VS Peugeot 308 Turbo

Hi all masters, I'm in a dilemma here.

A little bit of history. My first car was a Proton Waja, to which I upgraded to a Toyota Vios S in 2008. Now, I'm looking to make the jump to a continental vehicle. I'm not exactly very savvy when it comes to automobiles, hence this thread

I'm currently deciding between the VW Polo 1.2 and Peugeot 308 Turbo. My budget is below RM120k.

From what I've seen, here are the pros and cons:

VW Polo:
Pros
- Low fuel consumption
- Cheaper road tax
- Affordable servicing
- Powerful engine

Cons
- Small and low
- Basic equipment
- Disappointing interior

Peugeot 308 Turbo
Pros
- Nice interior
- More equipment
- Beautiful looking car

Cons
- A bit more pricey
- Not too sure about reliability

Most of my usage will be on city driving (driving to and from work, going out with friends) and once in awhile, highway driving to other states. Basically, 80% of it will be city driving and 20% will be on highways.

What do you guys think? Actually, I don't mind pre-owned vehicles as well as long as they are under RM120k. Any other suggestions besides from these 2 options? Or may I ask between the Polo and 308, which is a better bet?

p/s: Please don't suggest Ford Focus or Nissan Fairlady, my family already has 2 of those cars at home and it doesn't make sense to get another one.

Thanks guys!

[addedon]February 26, 2011, 6:25 pm[/addedon]And oh, my preference is actually sedans, I really like Audi A4 but sadly it's far beyond my reach.

I guess I can try to accept hothatches, but only if they are really worth it

A very simple question

Hi all.

I bought a Dell XPS 15 laptop from the Dell Direct Store in Mid Valley. The reason I bought it from the store instead of over the internet is because I really wanted the i7 processor, and the i7 is not available for online orders.

Anyway, my question is, is it possible for me to bring my XPS 15 over to Dell and request for them to change my LCD panel to the RGBLED Full HD one? Cos the one I bought is just the WLED HD LCD panel. Of course I'm willing to pay for it.

Thanks.
