Why China has "cut" Malaysia

In the 80s life in China was hard. They were an agricultural society and everyone rode around in bicycles and they didn't have the infrastructure and many industries unlike now. Allthough China brands are not as good compared to the foreign brands made in China but they have cut Malaysia a zillion times over and they now have :-

(i) one of the most high tech electronic companies (thousands of them)
(ii) automotive companies even producing their own EV cars (Cherry, Dong Feng, Geely etc.)
(iii) world's fastest inter city bullet train (over 500 KMH. half the speed of sound)
(iv) space programme
(v) a lot of dot coms or internet startup companies. Example: Alibaba.com (ebay for traders, distributors and merchants)

Back in the 80s they didn't have all these and Malaysia was far ahead compare to them. Look at us now. Who cut who? China cut Malaysia. Let's discuss.

What happened to FineTV?

Man, back in 2005 FineTV was offering Digital Interactive television and broadband Internet access at RM35 a month.....compare that with Astro's ridiculously ever-increasing rates with only standard Digital Sattelite TV & Radio, some boring games and no internet access.....with FineTV it was not like Astro, it was Video On Demand (VOD)....you get to select what you want to watch when you want to watch it....you could fast forward, rewind, pause, stop, skip zoom in, zoom out, skip all the stupid advertistments, jump over the announcements etc. like as though the show, movie or news was being played back from a DVD player but only it was coming from a TV station!!!!

Furthermore they had future plans (I think) to incorporate home shopping, interactive TV games, electronic transactions etc (home banking, my card checking etc.)

In other countries which they have been doing since the late 80s they have incorporated network games (GOD - Games On Demand) to play with a user online(X-Box, X-Box 360, Playstation 2, Playstation 3), TV shows, game shows, reality shows where you can submit your selection or choices for a question by using your Interactive TV decoder's remote....Example if a talk show asks you wether the price of chicken is too high? You can press 1 for Yes or 2 for No, interactive movies (movies where you can control the outcome of the movie such as storyline, plot, actors, actions, decision etc.) and there's even something like an online service (AOL)/teletext where you can chat, surf, download, do research etc. but only for TVs.

What ever happened to FineTV....have they gone bust? I wanted to get FineTV in addition to the Astro I already have but was not working then....It would be good if they were still around....they would have revolutionise the way Malaysians watch TV!!

Interactive Player

Anybody know about Interactive Players? Like Philips CD-i, Amiga CDTV, Pioneer Laser Active, RDI Halcyon, RCA/Samsung Nuon. I know Interactive players are more of a European or American phenomenan, but where to get one in Asia especially Malaysia?

I checked them out on E-Bay and they were too expensive second hand and many sellers don't ship to Malaysia.

I was just wondering I could build one using a Dell Desktop CPU. I plan to install DOS but there are no Interactive Player emulators that run on DOS. Philips Cd-i emulators run on Windows and they are not free and Nuon emulators have only partial emulation on certain games, interactive books, software but only runs on Windows or Linux.

Is there a Linux frontend that has a customizable user interface so that I can make menus for my DIY interactive player? So if there is I plan to run mine on Linux.

Also is there a good media player on linux that can run RMVB, MP4, Xvid, DivX etc. for Linus with visualization like spectrum analyser and track progression when you play back Audio CDs or audio files?

Please help?

[addedon]October 12, 2009, 12:04 pm[/addedon]Does Blu Ray DVD players have interactive features similiar to Interactive Players....because I heard they were powered by Java....so that means they are programmable....this means you can build applications for it....but are there any 3D games, interactive books, interactive encylopedias and interactive movies for BD players?
