Unable to start up

Hi guys,

Would like some suggestions on solutions to a strange problem that has cropped up with my PC.
Anyway, here are the specs, before I go into the details of the problem.

Power Supply: Powerlogic Magnum 250 450W Peak/230W Real
Motherboard: Gigabyte EP43-DS3L
CPU: Intel Core2 Duo E7300
GC: Sapphire ATI RADEON HD4670, using Radeon Omega Drivers V4.8.442
RAM: 2 sticks of Kingston DDR II SDRAM, PC2-6400 (400MHz) 2GB
Harddrive: 160GB SATA drive

that's the barebones of the system, no extra hardware and I'm running on XP Home.

Anyway, the problem started about a month-and-a-half ago, set up the system in Dec and there were no problems initially but once the problem set in, it happened at almost every boot.

Basically, sometimes when I boot up, the system will fail POST, and there will be a series of continuous beeps. According to what I've read, it points to a memory issue so decided to test it out.

Unplugged one RAM stick, and PC started up fine. Plugged in the second, the problem came back. However, when I only plug in the second (so only running 2GB of RAM), the same problem occurs.

Took the RAM back to the store and they tested it exhaustively, did a MEMTEST and it passed, so they said nothing wrong with it but when I plugged it in at home, boom, same problem.

Any ideas? Could it be insufficient power or something?

Any help would be useful... though I suppose I can live with it, now using the OK RAM stick so running on 2GB now cheers and hope I wasn't too long winded, just trying to explain the problem as best I can

Cheers!
Strange Start-Up Sounds

Got a strange problem occuring when I switch on my PC for the past couple of days.... strange because it doesn't happen all the time, only maybe once in three or four boot-ups....

Anyways, when I hit the power switch, there will be a series of continuous short beeps (tried to count, but lost track coz it was quite fast, I'd say bout 22-23 beeps within 30 seconds or so) and nothing will show up on the screen, not even the bios..... most of the time, this happens once, then I get the normal POST single beep and the PC boots up as usual, sometimes, it goes into another crazy cycle of beeping before starting up as normal.

Been doing some searching on the forum and did find some references to continuous beeps (and Google, as well) but just wanted to see what the nice folks here would say.

Is it a PSU problem or something far worse?? most of the stuff in the CPU is less than 3 months old, but the PSU is about a year-and-a-half old ... am posting from work now, so wouldn't be able to tell you the make and model or the specs of me home PC.

Hope somebody has some ideas. Cheers and thanks a lot folks

Upgrade suggestions needed

Hi guys, thinking of upgrading my rig to be able to handle some of the newer games out there! Think Fallout 3... hehehehe.... Anyways, here's my current specs so any suggestions would be helpful....

CPU: Intel P4, 2.4GHz, Socket 478 mPGA
MOBO: DFI P4M266-PM12-TL, AGP
Graphic Card: ATI Radeon 9200 Pro, 128MB AGP
RAM: 2 DDR PC3200 512MB, total 1GB

Thinking of a budget between RM600-RM900, already have other peripherals like hard drive, dvd and cd drive and casing and PSU, so those should be able to be reused....
Any suggestions on whether to upgrade using current mobo or just switch out the whole thing would be much appreciated cheers... and thanks a lot in advance!

Cheers
