（槟城9日讯）著名扁担饭餐馆遭2名劫匪打抢12万令吉，警方多处设路障捉人，引发全城大塞车。

根据了解，一家位于武吉占姆的扁担饭餐馆，今午约12时遭2名匪徒抢劫，抢走12万令吉。

餐馆经理事发后向警方投报，警方随着展开全城追捕行动，到处设路障。

据了解，峇都丁宜、青年公园、水池路及槟城大桥上皆设路障，造成路上大塞车。

根据观察，车龙从五条路塞到槟城大桥。

不过，记者下午到上述扁担饭餐馆了解时，餐馆职员以经理不在为由，拒绝发言。

记者再次追问时，对方则说：“不知道”。

目前，此案仍有待警方证实及发言。

另外，由于警方在多地设路障，造成交通大阻塞，许多网民纷纷在社交媒体投诉，也提问到底发生什么事？网络也一度传出监狱犯人逃走，因此警方封城展开追捕行动。

Trump Signs Bill Supporting Hong Kong Protesters

WASHINGTON—President Trump signed a bill designed to show solidarity with pro-democracy protesters in Hong Kong, despite previously expressing reservations about the legislation because of its potential to complicate U.S.-China trade talks.

The Hong Kong Human Rights and Democracy Act of 2019 reaffirms and amends the U.S.-Hong Kong Policy Act of 1992, detailing U.S. policy toward Hong Kong and ordering an assessment of the political developments there, among other things.

“I signed these bills out of respect for President Xi, China, and the people of Hong Kong,” Mr. Trump said in a statement. “They are being enacted in the hope that leaders and representatives of China and Hong Kong will be able to amicably settle their differences leading to long term peace and prosperity for all.”

China has criticized the legislation as an infringement on its internal affairs and evidence the U.S. is encouraging the antigovernment protests that have shaken Hong Kong for about six months. The Chinese Foreign Ministry summoned U.S. Ambassador Terry Branstad about the bill, and a spokesman has said Beijing will take resolute measures to counter the act if it becomes law.

The legislation, sponsored by Sen. Marco Rubio (R., Fla.), passed the House and Senate with bipartisan support. It requires the secretary of state to certify annually that Hong Kong is independent enough from Beijing to retain favored trading status with the U.S. It also allows the U.S. to impose sanctions and travel restrictions on individuals who commit human-rights violations in Hong Kong.

The bill passed Congress with veto-proof majorities. Just one lawmaker opposed the measure in the House, and it won unanimous approval in the Senate.

Pro-democracy protests in Hong Kong have been gaining momentum since they began in June. Administration officials had initially been directed to take a measured response to the protests to avoid creating additional tensions with Beijing as it attempted to work out a trade deal, but they have become more vocal in their condemnation of violence against protesters.

U.S. and Chinese negotiators haven't yet agreed on several key issues as they seek to reach a “phase one” trade agreement, raising the possibility that the deal won’t be completed by the end of this year.

The president noted in a statement Wednesday that certain provisions of the act “would interfere with the exercise of the president’s constitutional authority to state the foreign policy of the United States.”

He added: “My administration will treat each of the provisions of the act consistently with the president’s constitutional authorities with respect to foreign relations.”

MP dares ministers to live on RM1,200 a month

KUALA LUMPUR: Subang MP Wong Chen has criticised the Pakatan Harapan government for increasing the minimum wage by merely RM100 to RM1,200 per month next year.

“This is far too little... to eliminate the economic desperation of our very poorest Malaysians. If our ministers can survive on RM1,200, then do it. If you cannot, then increase it, ” he said in his budget speech in Parliament yesterday.

The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) member suggested that the minimum wage be raised to RM1,500 a month from next year.

Wong also noted that the government’s move to increase the income tax rate for those earning RM2mil annually from 28% to 30% as a taxation policy was not substantive enough.

He said the increase in income tax rate for the rich was only applicable to 2,000 individuals, with each of them expected to contribute RM20,000.

“Overall, the increase of funds to the government is only RM40mil a year, which is very little, ” he said.

However, Wong praised the government in terms of expenditure that was cut from RM316bil in 2019 to RM299bil in 2020.

“When we remove the one-off RM37bil factor, which is the GST rebate payments and special income tax rebates last year for corporates and the rich, Budget 2020 increased 7% as a whole.

“This is an expansionary budget and is good because the global economy is very likely to face a serious recession next year, ” he said.

Wong subsequently raised his concerns over the government’s increased allocation for procurement of supplies and services in 2020 compared to 2017.

He said under the former Barisan Nasional administration, there were 1.6 million civil servants with a supplies and services spending of RM34.7bil, which translated to about RM21,700 per civil servant.

Compared to the Pakatan government in 2020, it has 1.4 million civil servants with a spending of RM38.5bil, which means an average spending of RM27,500 per civil servant, he said.

“This is higher than the Barisan administration. I demand a detailed explanation regarding this matter. Otherwise, I’m afraid the PAC will be in session for more than 100 days next year for corruption and leakages proceedings, ” he added.

Wong, however, conceded that Budget 2020 was a better budget than 2019’s.

Budget 2020, where RM297bil was allocated, was tabled by Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng last Friday.

NILAI: There will be no discounts for compounds issued by the Road Transport Department (JPJ) during the Hari Raya season, says Transport Minister Anthony Loke.

He said the compounds were issued for offences such as beating the red light, overtaking on double lines, using a mobile phone while driving, cutting queues, not wearing the safety belt, driving in the emergency lane and hogging the right lane.

“Our intention is not to make their lives miserable but we need to send the message across that we are serious about road safety and reducing fatalities.

“If you look at the statistics, many accidents are caused by negligence.

“We want to educate motorists on the importance of obeying traffic laws,” he said after launching a road safety campaign in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

The campaign, which began yesterday, will end on June 13.

Also present at the event was Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Abdul Hamid Bador.

Loke said the issue of getting a discount would not arise if all motorists obeyed traffic laws.

He said 548,598 accidents were reported last year.

In the first three months of this year, the number of cases stood at 133,912.

There were 6,284 road fatalities last year, which was lower than the 6,740 cases reported in 2017.

In the first three months of this year, 1,483 people were killed on Malaysian roads.

He said the number of accidents during this year’s Chinese New Year period also fell from the 21,041 cases registered last year to 20,829.“Although the number of road fatalities during the two-week period also fell from 208 to 197, the numbers are still very high.

“We need to work harder to bring this down,” he said.

Loke urged the police and JPJ to increase their enforcement on federal, town and rural roads during the Hari Raya period.

This, he said, was necessary as most accidents were reported along these stretches instead of on the expressways.

“It is my hope that this will be done with more focus on motorcyclists as they are involved in 63% of all fatal accidents.

“This is also important as many motorcyclists, especially in smaller towns, do not wear helmets,” he said.

Loke said an estimated 35% of all motorcyclists did not wear helmets while they were on the road.

Separately, he said heavy vehicles would not be allowed to be on the road on June 1, 2, 3, 8 and 9 to reduce the risk of accidents during the balik kampung rush.

GEORGE TOWN: A man lost his arm after his car was involved in an accident at Lebuhraya Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu here early this morning.

In the 3am incident, the 36-year old man from Gelugor lost control of his Jaguar XF as he was driving from the town centre towards Bayan Lepas.

North East district police chief Assistant Commissioner Anuar Omar said the car flipped over after the crash and the victim lost part of his right arm in the accident.

“He was later rushed to the Penang Hospital,” he said, adding police were investigating the case under Section 43 of the Road Transport Act 1987.

The victim is reported to be in stable condition.

so i turn it off just now for it to have a rest, and after awhile i try to turn it on then i have this issue
