Upcoming OS X 10.11 discussion

OS X 10.11

As of January 2015, about half of Macs are running OS X Yosemite. While Yosemite is still “new”, Apple is expected to unveil the successor, OS X 10.11 in June during the 2015 WWDC event, which will be the same as Yosemite announcement last year. Although the codename for the new Mac operating system is not yet known, some rumors point that the final build of v10.11 will be named after one of the cities or landmarks in California, such as Mojave and Sequoia. This makes sense since Apple already patented several names before they unveiled OS X Yosemite last year and some of them are “Sequoia, Mojave, Sonoma and Ventura (I hope these names strike a chord).

Features

Moving on, below are the rumoured features that we will probably see on OS X 10.11.

1) New and improved Safari

Like any other previous iterations of OS X, OS X 10.11 will most likely feature a new and improved Safari. Current Safari (8.0.4) on Yosemite is arguably the fastest and the most energy-efficient web browser on OS X, but there always rooms for improvement. From my experience, sometimes one of the open tabs in Safari stops responding without any obvious reasons and then it will give me the annoying Spinning Beach Ball. What a bummer because it interrupts my browsing session and I either need to wait or resort to Force Quit, so, hopefully Apple will fix this problem in 10.11.

2) Siri

Siri, which is a famous virtual assistant from iOS had been rumored to make its debut on OS X Yosemite, but unfortunately, that did not happen. For that reason, we do hope to see Siri or maybe OS X’s own virtual assistant making its way to OS X 10.11. Well, maybe the idea of using virtual assistant seems more like a gimmick now, but many people believe that it is a cool feature/addition and updates will make it become more usable and also much smarter. For now, maybe it is not as bright as Jarvis (Iron Man) but hey, at least we are heading in that direction.

3) Control Centre

OS X 10.11 could feature a Control Centre, similar to that of iOS, but of course with tweaks to take advantage of a bigger display on a Mac.

4) Alternate UI/Dock

Honestly, I don’t have issues with Yosemite UI. It looks fine but I get it, flat UI is not everyone’s cup of tea. Some people still prefer or miss the 3D-look of Mavericks, so it is possible that Apple will give us the ability to change the UI to 3D, similar to how Dark Mode is implemented on Yosemite.

5) Improved connectivity

Yosemite is buggy especially on the connectivity side. Some users have had experience Wi-Fi issues with their Macs and this infamous Wi-Fi bugs have been bugging (pun intended) some users since OS X Mountain Lion. Due to these, OS X 10.11 is expected to have better connectivity than the previous versions OS X.

6) Spotlight

Apple might add the option to move the search bar to the top right of the screen like how it was on Mavericks. Having Spotlight search bar to appear on the middle of the screen is a little distracting to some users (including me).

7) Faster and more stable

Of course, with the release of newer operating system, we do hope to see improvements especially in terms of speed and stability. This is one of the major points of every OS upgrades.

Public Beta

Apple offered a free public beta of Yosemite to one million of users before they officially release the operating system to public. So, fingers crossed that they will do the same thing for OS X 10.11.

Launch date

Normally, Apple will release the final version few months after the beta, which is likely in October or November.

Free or Paid?

In 2013, Apple promised to make all future OS X upgrades for free. So, when the new OS X is officially released later, you can launch the App Store, download it and enjoy the new OS X on your machine!

Hi guys, I received this TV for the past few days as a Christmas gift, and I have a question about the Motionflow.

I just checked the specs on Sony’s website and it is stated that the TV has 200/240Hz Motionflow.

Well, I tried to find that in the settings but I couldn’t find it, so I wonder if this model really has Motionflow ?

To anyone who has the same model, can you find Motionflow in the TV settings ? Am I missing something ?

How to avoid being a slowpoke [Tutorial]

I’m sure some of you guys use the search function, but still end up being a slowpoke, right ? So, in this thread, I will teach you the easy and effective ways to avoid making duplicate threads, by using Google.

1) Let say, you want to open a thread about Big Hero 6 and wonder if someone already posted what you want to post, just go to google and put site:forum.lowyat.net + “keyword” in the search bar, for example site:forum.lowyat.net “big hero 6”.

2) You can also search by combining different keywords. For example, thread about iPhone 6 HairGate, go to google and type site:forun.lowyat,net “iphone 6” “hair”.

As you can see in the picture below, few members already created the same topic. So, don’t open the same topic again if you don’t want people to called you slowpoke.

3) Lastly, use the above formula + Search tools and click on Any time and change it to past hour, past 24 hours, and so on to filter latest news to see if someone already shared the news.

Is it wrong to say that anime is cartoon ?

I have a cousin who gets pissed when someone says something like “anime is cartoon”,“what cartoon are you watching ?” or “wow nice cartoon wallpaper”.

Seriously, what is the big deal, it’s still a cartoon, right ? Well, maybe it’s easier for people to pronounce it as cartoon instead of anime.

I do admit that I use the term “anime” when I’m online but not IRL conversation. Anyway, I couldn’t care less if you want to call it anime, but hey. don’t get angry because someone refer anime as cartoon when talking to you in real life.

iPhone 6 design

Apple finally unveiled the iPhone 6 on 9.9.2014 and apparently, it’s the same as the leaked photos/videos, with stripes on its back.

So, what do you think of the design ? Disappointed or are you pleased with it ?

For me, the only problem that I have with the design is those stripes at the back (yeah, those dem lines). It looks unfinished.

I will still get it once it’s available here though. I just want to see what people here think of the design, so feel free to vote and comment.

Facebook disabled my account for being under 13

So I was chatting with someone that I added from Minecraft group and we were talking about gaming and stuff, then he asked me how old I am and I replied him with my age. Then the dude said that I shouldn’t be on this site and he will report me to Facebook because I violated Facebook’s terms and conditions for being under 13 and he gave me this link https://www.facebook.com/help/157793540954833. I thought he was joking about reporting me until I saw this when I logged in to my account later that day, yesterday to be exact.

Now Facebook requires me to fill that form and submit a document within two weeks, otherwise, I will lose access to my account. But, even if i do submit it to them, I doubt they will let me use my account when they see my date of birth. Seriously, my data, friend list and photos are in there and the account is three years old, so it's kinda sad.

Has anyone else had their account disabled by Facebook before ?

Edit : By the way, my friends can no longer see me in their list, as if my account was deleted.

OS X 10.10

Apple officially unveiled the new OS X 10.10, known as Yosemite at the 25th annual Worldwide Developers Conference on 2 June 2014.

It is the upcoming eleventh major release of the Apple's operating system after Mavericks.

Redesigned UI

OS X Yosemite features new and revamped user interface, inspired by iOS 7.

Of course, it still has the generic and familiar look of the previous OS X, such as the iconic dock and the menu bar, but with much flatter and modern visual appearance.

Other major visual changes in OS X Yosemite are the 2D dock, translucency, new icons, Dark Mode and Helvetica Neue as the new default system font.

New Features

Yosemite has a bunch of new features and many of them focus on the theme of Continuity.

Continuity is a set of new features that allows iPhone, iPad, and Mac to remain true to their form-factors while still working seamlessly together.

With Continuity, users now have better and seamless integration between their Mac and iOS 8 Devices.

Moving on, here is a list of some of the notable new/improved features that are included in OS X Yosemite.

1) AirDrop: AirDrop now works between iOS and OS X.

2) Handoff: Handoff lets your devices communicate with each other to help you work on the same project across multiple Apple devices.

3) Improved Spotlight: Spotlight now appears in center of screen. You can type in a few characters to find news, Wikipedia info, maps, docs, movie times nearby, or see media you can buy from Apple that’s related to that topic.

4) iCloud Drive: iCloud Drive lets you access docs in the cloud, and they can be synced across all your Mac products.

5) Phone Integration: Your Mac now acts as a caller ID when you get a call on your iPhone. You can also use your Mac as a speaker phone, or call a number you see on webpage. Not only that, you will be able to send and receive SMS/MMS right on your Mac as well.

6) Instant Hotspot: With OS X Yosemite, your Mac can automatically use the personal hotspot on your iDevice when they are within the range of each other. Your Mac even displays the signal strength and battery life of your iDevice.

Other features/changes:

Safari - OS X Yosemite includes the new and more energy efficient Safari 8 along with an improved Nitro JavaScript engine, making it faster than ever. The new Safari also features new tabbed browsing.

iCloud everywhere - Yosemite now lets users log into their Mac using their iCloud password instead of user account password.

Currency conversion - Currency conversion in Spotlight.

Spotlight search - Bing now replaces Google as Spotlight search engine.

Batch rename - Yosemite's Finder brings you the ability to rename multiple selected items using right-click.

Near networking - Apple's move to open Multipeer Connectivity means Macs and iOS devices will be far easier to network together over Wi-Fi or Bluetooth.

Cloud control - Yosemite allows you to remotely close pages that you have open on all your devices using iCloud Tabs.

New sounds - Apple has added new alert tones to Messages.

File location - Click on a file and hold the command key and you'll still see where that file is located at the bottom of the window.

Launchpad - Extra row and add pages in Launchpad Folders.

Dictation - OS X Yosemite includes 24 new dictation languages.

Record - You can plug in an iOS 8 device and record audio and video in QuickTime.

Video encoding - You can encode video files by right-clicking on the video file and selecting the encode file option.

Mission Control - Improved Mission Control.

Mail - Updated Mail App with Markup feature.

Release date

OS X Yosemite was released on 16 October 2014 right after the Apple October event. Like the previous OS X Mavericks, OS X Yosemite is available as a free upgrade and it can be downloaded through the Mac App Store.
