KBU International College has great facilities, good education and the fees are affordable. It is even less expensive than some highly advertised colleges in shop buildings and without much facilities. Students from KBU share your experience and prospective students may make your enquiries.

From Diploma to Degree

The job market is quite competitive and it is important gain an edge. According to the Ministry of Higher Education, a total of 70,345 students graduated with a diploma in 2008 while 86,434 graduated with a degree. From there, you can see that competition is keen for the limited jobs out there especially in this economic climate.

Having worked in the education industry for about 8 years, I normally encourage students to continue on with their degree upon completion of their diploma unless they cannot due to financial reasons or some just can't take studying anymore. With a diploma, in general, your starting salary is RM1200-1700 while a degree holder can get from RM1600-2400. Although, it does not seem that there is much different in the starting salary, the difference comes when time comes for promotion. The degree holder in general has a higher edge over the diploma holder.

A degree programme will enhance your theoretical knowlege and increase your critical thinking skills. This is important especially if you want to become a manager or higher. You will need these problem solving, decision making and critical skills. Ofcourse, a degree does not automatically give you a edge, it is one of the factors.

Having said that, a diploma holder in general can continue on to a degree programme from a private college or university college entering into Year 2 of the relevant programme. You will need to submit your transcripts for exemptions. Some will require you to provide the course syllabus.

What you should do to continue on to a degree is to visit the colleges or university colleges and talk to their counselors. Find out the costs, accommodation, exemptions, etc. For some colleges, you can join their 3+0 degree and get British or Australian degree.

1. Transcripts
2. Course syllabus
3. Application form
4. Photocopy of IC

Well, hope this helps. You can go to my blog and find out more. EduSpiral
