Laptop Recommendation 4k and 3050?

Was looking to spend around 4k and wanted a 3050 graphics card.
The Lenovo Ideapad seemed to be the only one I could find that was able to give me 16gb ram and 3050 for just above 4k with the discounts.

Any other recommendations?

[WTB] Intel 7th Gen++ desktop. Used Okay

Hello,

I'm looking to buy an Intel 7th Gen ++ Desktop. Refurbished is okay. Just need the desktop with CPU, RAM, MB, HD, PSU, etc etc in working condition. Okay with i7, i5, or even i3 depending on the generation

Don't really care about looks tbh, at least 8gb Ram would be nice (depends on price) and ideally a 1TB HDD would be nice, but not necessary.

Doesn't need to come with Windows either.

No keyboard, mouse, monitor required.

Trading US Stocks: CIMB, eToro, or Tiger Brokers?

Hey guys,

Had a question regarding which account I should open. A few details:
I'm a foreigner in Malaysia. I have a Maybank and CIMB account. I don't have a Singapore Account (it might be difficult).

So I was considering opening a CGS-CIMB account because it seems straightforward.
Maybank wont let me open a new account during MCO so that's a no go.

eToro, seems straightforward but only can Withdraw to Debit / Credit Card

Tiger seems good, but boy does the account creation seem convoluted (opening a SG bank account). I have no intention to go / move to Singapore.

Are there any downsides to going CGS?

Cheapest Mechanical Keyboard with MX Red?

The title,

I've been trying to look for the cheapest mechanical keyboard that either has Cherry MX Reds or maybe Browns (or perhaps their equivalent). I'd ideally like to keep it under RM 200 if possible. I don't care too much about the size but ideal would be a tenkeyless style or smaller. A coworker managed to find a CM Rapid for RM 150 (he can't seem to remember where he got the deal since it was a year ago) but that is an insane deal.

I was wondering if anyone could offer tips / suggestions?

Questions for those of you who have Time Internet

Hello!

So I have had UniFi in the Subang Area for quite some time now and for the most part, it's pretty good. I get solid 5Mbps usually and most of my trouble is with the router rather than the service.

I just found out Time is available in my building / area and wanted to know if I should give them a considering. I am a HEAVY internet user, seeding constantly, or streaming music, or remotely accessing my PC when I'm at work, sometimes other people stream from NAS at home.

I like that Time has 8mbps for a cheaper price, it has a better router, and the 30 hours a month to 50 Mbps is very interesting. So my questions are:

1. Is your upload and download speed consistently what they promise?
2. Have you noticed any throttling?
3. Have you had any issues with service going down? When it goes down how is it handled?
4. How does the 30 hours a month thing work? Can I switch it on and off? Is it the first 30 hours of each month?
5. What is the router they give you like in terms of performance? Can it handle the 50 Mbps?

Thanks.

Yet Another Maxis vs Time question

Hello Everyone!

Not exactly sure where I should post this so forgive me in advance if it's the wrong place! On to the question!

My UniFi contract is... over! And now I have options for Time or Maxis! But I have no idea which one I should pick. I'm leaning towards Time ONLY because they give you a nice Cisco router and since my computer is usually on 24/7 I need something beefy and this should save me some money. Also unlimited quota is nice.

On the other hand, service is most important. In terms of UP TIME and Consistency and Support when an issue DOES arise. So if Maxis takes the cake on these three metrics well I can overlook the router.

So I'd love your opinions on your experience with Time or Maxis. Perhaps some experiences you have that the sales rep give out.

Thanks!

Best gaming laptop for around 3K?

Hello there!

So I need to recommendations from you guys. What's the best GAMING laptop I can get for roughly 3K? I'm only looking for gaming prowess, the most bang for my buck, nothing else matters, but for fun I've outlined things I care/dont care about.

1. Preferred Brand - As long as it's not LV, Nike, Levi's, Rolex (Don't Care at all)
2. Budget - Roughly 3K (give or take 100)
3. Usage - It's in the title, it's in the description, what do you think?! (Gaming)
4. Preferred laptop/screen size - I have a magnifying glass (Don't care)
5. Looks - I want to use my laptop, not make sweet sweet love to it. (Exceptions if laptop comes with built in fleshlight)
6. Weight - I'm a guy... Do you even lift bro? (Don't care)
7. WiFi Card - I prefer Atheros over Intel (Me likey backtrack - your interwebs are mine!)

Let the advice begin!

Laptop for 2K with VGA

Hello there,

So a couple of my friends need a laptop for work. Basically their budget is 2K. 14inch or below, and they want lots of battery life. Discreet or internal graphics doesn't matter. Even weight isn't a huge issue. Main thing is that it NEEDS to have an VGA port, the kind you use for projectors. And no, their projector doesn't have HDMI, I've checked .

It's really hard to find decent laptops in that range with VGA port, for example, I was thinking dell for their customer service since it's a work laptop, but dell doesn't have a single 14 inch laptop with VGA!!!

Help!

Hello all!

The title explains it all, is it possible for me to buy the exGPU at a later date and run the 410p in SLI mode?
UniFi vs Time

Hello all,

My Unifi contract is up, and while in my condo it was good for the most part (perhaps only 10 15 times down in 2 years), I was wondering if I should consider time.

To be honest, I don't have many complaints with the UniFi in my area other than the really crappy router. I've heard Maxis throttle's their internet at peak times, so they are out of the question.

UniFi, on the other hand, does not do any throttling. At least not in my area. I have no issues with having to use a public DNS I'd probably use it anyway

So my question, should I upgrade to Time? Do they throttle at peak times? Hows their customer service response time? Hopefully someone can shed some light on it.

Thanks.

To Haswell or not to Haswell THAT is the question

Hello everybody!

So my old Acer is about dead. It's in it's final throws of life and it's time for a new laptop. I'd love your opinion.

I'm specifically looking for a laptop for reliable gaming. That means something with great cooling, can play games at medium to medium-high settings and will last awhile. Requirements are really the Graphics Card and the warranty.

I really don't care what brand, but I am limited by one thing... price. I'm looking around the 2.8k region.

Yes. I realize that's very low.

So my question, should I buy a laptop right now (if so which one) OR should I just suffer another 2 months and wait for Haswell and hope they have better deals then.

That Lenovo deal sounds amazing still (especially with FreeDOS) and the Y580 looks a little out of my budget but is also VERY tempting.

HELP!

PS (is Haswell Intel's TICK or TOCK?)

Laptop Cleaning and Thermal Paste Application

Hello all.

I'd like to have some thermal paste applied on my laptop's CPU and GPU area. Ideally I'd buy the the thermal paste, but then have it applied for me. Unfortunately I don't have the confidence to do it myself.

So I'd like to know, how much will I get charged?
Need a Thin and Light

Hello all,

I'm in the market to buy a light laptop, something very portable. I'm looking toward fast boot times, processor and graphics card are not really a factor for me. I want an SSD, but 128 GB is too little, 256GB seems to be okay, that or some sort of hybrid. Specifically 14 or 13inch only. Anything smaller is not what I'm looking towards. Budget is somewhere less than 3.8K. No Apple.

So in summary:
1. Fast boot times (means SSD)
2. Hard Drive space of at least 256GB
3. 14 or 13 inch, and light
4. Processor and Graphics not a concern
5. No apple products (sorry).
6. Budget: 3.8K or less (less is better )

Hope all you Sifu's can recommend something soon!

So looking at the y480 with the gt650m I noticed that the new macbook pros with retina also have this particular gpu.

From Anandtech's review of the laptop I noticed the following specs they obtained from GPUz from the rMBP:

Just curious if anyone else who happens to have a g650m has the same information for gt650m on a non-rMBP laptop

[Q] Lenovo Y480 ... seriously?

So I was looking around on the price catalog, really for the fun of it... and then I came across the Y480 with these redonkulous specs:

Y480, i7-3610QM + Nvidia GT650(GDDR5)@2499[JBL], 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), backlit keyboard, FreeDOS

and I almost fell off my chair!

So without retyping the specs above... is this a typo? Because those specs, at that price kinda seems ungodly. If it isn't a typo.. then what's wrong with this laptop? Why isn't everyone flooding the forums with questions about it?! (did I miss the flood?) IS it not out?!

I mean I guess the downsides would be that it doesn't have a FHD screen, but other than that... does anything even compare? I'm totally confused

[WTA] Gaming Laptop for $3K

Hello,

So I was wondering if anyone could give recommendations for a gaming laptop for a strict upper limit of 3K. Brand is of little importance to me although I prefer ASUS and HP, but it doesn't really matter. Screen size is of almost no importance either. Only thing I care about is the gaming performance. Processor, weight, looks, doesn't matter, unless they somehow impact the gaming performance.

I understand at the price range it'll be hard to find something very good. So benchmarks or real world testing results would be great. Bottom line, what laptop would give me the best gaming performance. Based on my research it seems like it comes down to the 555m versus whatever is in the HP dv6 line. Are the newer Nvidia 600 series better?

Thanks in advance!

Hello,

So, a word of warning to all of you looking for jobs. DO NOT WORK AT THIS COMPANY. Let me preface this by saying that I do not work there, I have only gone through the interview process. I sat through 4 interviews with this company. The final was with the MD of the company Kee Wong.

The company requires a 3 year bondage. I had asked about it in all 3 of my previous interviews and received NO information about it's details. His phone conversation immediately started off with addressing this issue. I asked what were the details of the bond and was told. The interviewer said, "I am going to be blunt, I have worked with people of all shapes and sizes, so I don't trust you or your Gen Y, I know your going to work for me for 12 months and then PISS OFF, so If you leave before the three years are up, it's going to be a problem for me, and a problem for you. Is that clear enough for you?" Followed by a laugh. THIS is how an interview by the MD of the company began.

The interview went on assuming I was lying about what I was getting from other employers, asking me to provide in writing, on company letter head, proof of what other employers are offering me which is a direct breach of the confidentiality agreement for almost any company! Finally, I was told to make a decision of the offer presented to me, without time to think about it, without looking at the details of the 3 year contract, and to say yes or no or the offer was off the table.

The MD even dared to try and bait me by claiming that, "if you work 3 years with us, and we like you, maybe we'll get you a PR card in Australia"...

This is all true, the quotes are VERBATIM. I have no affiliation with it's competitors, I am just a student, who applied, and this is the response I got. Your welcome to draw your own conclusions.

A43SV (i7) vs N43SL

Ok so finally both of these laptops are out!

Unfortunately, there isn't a 14 inch N-Series i7 SB laptop available otherwise this wouldn't be a problem. So I call on you, help me decide!
I will be using it for gaming, for the most part.

I realize between gaming there isn't much difference between i5 and i7, but could there be a couple of months down the line?
How much difference will I see in everyday use between the i7 and the i5?
Will an A-Series with and i7 have more or less resale value than an N-Series with i5?
Besides being pretty, does the design of the N-Series have any functional uses?
Which one has an easier to open case so that I can actually clean it myself ?
What would you do?

14 inch w/ i7 Sandybridge?

Hey,

I was wondering, are there any 14inch laptops with the i7 Sandy Bridge? I was considering the N53SN but after looking at it and seeing my friend with it, its FREAKIN' HUGE. Oddly enough the weight isn't as much of an issue as much as the actual SIZE.

So my question is, are there any 14inch Sandy Bridge laptops available with i7? My budget is 3K - 3.5K (which is ABSOLUTE MAX), I plan to use it for gaming mainly.
Warranty/reliability is important to me, but looks aren't .... at all. I dont care if it looks like crap, as long as the warranty is decent (doesnt HAVE to be dell) and I get my i7 and game on!

Thanks!
