Getting a New Car from Dealer

Hi, I am an international student currently studying in Malaysia, had a plan to purchase an average car for my daily living here, plus considering if I'll be working then a ride is necessary I guess.

What I'd want to seek for advice is:
1. What are the things to ask/confirm to the dealer when purchasing the car?
2. How is the commonly accepted way of doing the payment?
3. Anything I need to remember, such as insurance, roadtax, or etc?

Basically almost ANYTHING related to procuring a new car in Malaysia.

Thanks for the insight

Hi LYN,

I have been posting around here for quite some time since I came to Malaysia in 2009, and I think looking at the growth rate and orientation of LYN, it is time to open up a little bit of exposure towards International Students here in Malaysia (I am from Indonesia btw ).

I think it will be a very good idea!

Straight Step to Postgraduate

Hi guys,

I am a foreign student, from Indonesia. I am done with my IT degree in one of the Local-U here in Malaysia, still waiting for my convocation this November.

I got a scholarship offer (not full, but somehow helpful enough for me) to continue studying Master in the same university, it is a coursework program btw.

I have been reading a lot around LYN, through the past few years back, all the threads about Master vs Degree, the chances of getting a job if you are a fresh Master graduate and all, seems like no bonus point at all for the so called "Fresh Master Graduate" people

I'd like to open up the discussion again to everyone, I believe in uniqueness and a lot of other considerations when HR is hiring new staffs, while experience is truly important, I think we can't forget other aspects as well.

Oh ya FYI, if you are asking me why I am not getting a job straight in Malaysia, it is because of the age rules, I am not 21 yet (birthday next year), therefore the company can't issue a work permit for me. (MDeC does not allow it, eventhough the company currently I am doing my internship is an MSC company), that is why I pick the Master pathway.

What do you guys think?

I am taking a master course in my local university this September, the reason I take this course is because I am still 20yrs old therefore it is not possible yet for me to get a legal and permanent job.

The course is MBT (Master of Business and Technology).

Below is the core subject:

Information Modelling Foundations
Business Information Management
Introduction to Business Analysis
Advanced Information Modelling
Business Intelligence
Business Process Modelling
Professional Communication

And here are the electives:

XML for Business Applications
Research and Development Project
Business Semantics Frontiers
Business Knowledge Transformation
Enterprise Business Rules
IT Services Foundations
Managing Organizations
Strategic Management

From this data, what do you guys think this course can achieve or which career paths it will lead me to?

And also, what do you think of the elective courses, which one I should/shouldn't take and why?

Sorry for the long posts, I have no one else to ask about this.

Hi guys,

I am new in building PCs, so my budget is stated up there.

Usage :
campus work, light programming (web development / graphic designs), no any 3D rendering, probably a lil bit of AE designs.

No plan in OC / SLI in the near future.

Not a big fan of gaming.

And the budget gotta include screen, mouse + keyboard.

What say you guys?
Foreign Student / Worker Getting a Vehicle

Hi everyone,

I am a foreign student here, gonna graduate soon end of this year, and probably will get a job in Malaysia (I already have few choices at hands), but that is not the main point.

Looking at the current traffic atmosphere specifically at the KL, I think it is advisable for one to get his/her own ride assuming that they will be working around that area. Or even though wherever they work, a vehicle is always an extra advantage for everyone.

So I wanna ask, put aside the math of how much a person can earn a month, what type of vehicle will be the most preferred for foreigners at Malaysia? And why?

And another question is, how is the procedure of buying a vehicle in Malaysia for foreigners?

Dimmed Screen | Inverter or Backlights?

Hi guys,

My laptop is a 3 years old Toshiba Satellite M300. This morning the screen turned to dim, in a very very very dimmed mode, that I need to use my phone's flash just to see what's going on there.

Apparently everything is running fine, OS, booting and everything. Its just the screen that turns dark (not black coz I still can see things). I have done some googling so I found out it might be an inverter or backlight problems.

How true is that? Is there any method of checking?

I am currently at Bukit Jalil btw, in case I need a reparation, where should I go to? Read that Imbi Plaza is a good destination for fixing laptops.
