Intermittent Wireless Connection

Hi guys, I have an issue with my wireless connection. I need help with it, thanks.

Broadband provider
ISP/package: TM UniFi VIP5
Location: USJ
Have you called your ISP's helpline?: Yes, they suggest that I try other channels. I switched to several channels, each for a while to see the result. For each channels I tried, it does not take long for the issue to crawl back.

Personal equipment
Modem: HUAWEI HG655a
Router: Networks L7-N-R2000
Firewall used: Windows Firewall, Windows Defender

Problem details
First occurence of problem: A few weeks back, can't remember the exact date.
Problem frequency: First, sometimes. Now, all the time especially peak hours.
Problem description:

I first identify something is wrong when at times I can't load webpages. I search a bit and able to continuously monitor my Internet connection.

[attachmentid=3510148][attachmentid=3510149]

I called TM and they suggested me to try other channels. It worked for a while, like two days for each channels. The problem is getting more serious when my apps started to disconnects a lot due to this issue. When I first subscribed to UniFi, this issue does not exists. I suspect this is due to interference with many other wireless in the same building in which the number increase over time. Matter get worse when the flat management installed several hotspots around the apartment area weeks ago.

[attachmentid=3510150][attachmentid=3510151]

A couple questions:

1. This issue happens because of network congestion of 2.4 GHz networks / high interference with other wireless networks? If yes, I believe temporary solution is to use Ethernet cable directly from the home gateway, is it correct?
2. Please suggest ways to solve this issue permanently. Will changing the modem/router with 5 GHz network capability will solve the issue, assuming every users of my wireless network are capable to receive 5 GHz network.

Thank you very much in advance for your help

BSOD

Hi guys, my rig has a problem: repeated BSOD, and I'm unable to identify the exact cause. It would be lovely if you guys could help me with this. Thanks.

Scenario: Yesterday, I installed Max Payne 3, and play for a while up to Chapter VI. The thing with Max Payne 3 is that it is filled with interlude movies. Suddenly, at one interlude, my screen goes blank. However, the sound is still there. I checked the task manager, and the game was running just fine (responding). I tried Alt+Tab, Ctrl+Alt+Del, and stuff to restore the game screen, but it still blank. So, I decided to kill the application by Alt+F4. The game was killed and everything was fine, but not for long.
I continued to use my rig normally (browsers and other applications) when it hanged for a second and goes BSOD. After the dumping finished, I force reboot and start Windows normally. I open some apps, but not long after that, it goes BSOD again. I reboot again. This cycle repeats a few times. Even after reboot, if I leave my rig (not using it), it still goes BSOD.
However, it does not goes BSOD when entering safe mode. I did not chose Last Know Good Configuration because it was never there. That's about it.

For PC specs, please refer here. My PC was set up on July 2012. I'm using Windows 7 Ultimate x64.

Latest dump log here.

Troubleshooting Log:
1. Disable graphic card. Figuring it might be the card (as safe mode uses vga), I disabled the card yet the issue persists.
2. Disable some start-up items and services. Since it still goes BSOD even when not using it, these couple of things may be the cause. However, BSOD still happening.
3. Restore Windows to an earlier point. The restore point is before I installed Max Payne 3. Now, everything was reverted like before I installed Max Payne, but my rig still goes BSOD.
4. Files Integrity. I ran sfc \verifyonly and sfc \scannow. It came back clean both times.
5. Memtest86. I ran memory test once, but let it loop one time. Both results passed with flying colors.
6. Update card driver. It found an update through Device Manager, was running update when it goes BSOD again. Try update again and succeeded. My card is on latest driver.
7. Disk check. Ran chkdsk \f, came clean but issue still persists.

Solution: After spending some considerate amount on the net looking for answers, I found out about Driver Verifier which came with Windows. The idea of this tool is to find out which driver is causing the stop error. Before using verifier, the stop error points that there is an issue with ntoskrnl.exe, which is the Windows NT Kernel, which caused me having no idea how to fix it.

This verifier needs to be activated and it will validate each driver until a stop error happen. This time, the stop error points to a more specific driver which caused the stop error. It points out the culprit. I disable the start-up of that service/application and the issue was fixed.

That is all, thanks for helping.

PC

Hi, I need help to identify which one is the best deal. Monitor, either way is fine. Would have preferred discrete graphic card. However, the objective is to weigh which deal is the best one. I'm not actually looking for improvements, or adding stuff unless the recommendation <= 1500. Justification to your option of choice would be lovely. I look these four options almost all the same except in term of service by Dell etc. This PC is not for me. So, I could only stick to these options. Thank you in advance.

The first one is my build as a recommendation to him:

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

This build has 14 days one-to-one replacement if got hardware faulty in addition to manufacturer warranty for each hardware. For example, WD HDD has three years warranty, then for the HDD, the warranty cover for three years. If the RAM has lifetime warranty, then lifetime it is. Different hardware, different warranty as depends on manufacturer.

The other three sets is from Dell Best-Selling Desktop Deals. You may refer here.
The one in discussion are:

Inspiron 660s Slim Tower RM 1,299
Inspiron 660s Slim Tower RM 1,399
Inspiron 660 Mini Tower RM 1,499

Please include the offer such as cash redemption and please do not miss the fact that there is a chance that a decent delivery charges may apply in your valuable justification while considering these four options.

I prefer custom build for hardware choices and feasibility to upgrade in the future, but he prefer the online deals by Dell. Still, he would listen to my option. I already suggest the custom build, but I would like some opinion about this. Thanks again.

EDIT: Most heavy applications would be Photoshop to AutoCAD, something to that level.

Hi, just a quick question here. I have an 2.5" IDE HDD from my notebook and I would like to stack it up with my other storage devices in my desktop. My rig uses native 6gbps SATA.

The thing is, will IDE - SATA converter/connector do the job? I mean this kind of converter work both ways right; IDE HDD to SATA MB, SATA HDD to IDE MB? Thanks in advance

PC Hang

Hi, I just set up my rig a few months back. Since the setup, my PC will randomly hang on occasion. It has been happening for a few times that I'm bothered to troubleshoot this issue. The only indication is that the HDD LED on the housing unit lit without any blinking when the PC hang, which from I know the HDD is the hardware that hang. Everything else is jammed. This includes mouse and keyboard, power button. The only way to handle this issue is to click reboot button and the PC goes off in one sec. Then I need to click the power button boot again. I'm pretty sure the hardware is not faulty yet. I'm using both HDD and SSD. OS is on SSD, System Reserved and some other game installations is on HDD. I don't really know what to do yet. Should I begin with disconnect and re-connect the storage devices?

EDIT: Kindly check my siggy for spec. Thank you.

Wired and Wireless

Hi, I need to solve an issue here. Issue is at workplace.

My workplace use both wired and wireless. Wired is for internal staff so they may access servers in term of application to do their work, while wireless is also for their staff but not for work purposes as servers are not reachable when connected to WiFi only. WiFi is for management use (managers, directors, GM, etc).

I'm one of their staff. I'm using cable connection to access servers so I could do my work. I also connect to the WiFi to do other stuff (non work stuff). The thing is, wired connection has restriction of 200kbps quota which is kinda small. The quota limitation cause my web browsing being block all the time. Plus, many website with a lot of categories such as "Entertainment" are blocked. Kinda sucks.

The solution is to use the wireless connection. It has no restriction whatsoever. Unfortunately, I could not do my work and surfing simultaneously. I had to keep changing the connection whenever I need to access the web and when I need to get back to my work. I would like to promote efficiency here when I could just multitask both activities.

Here is where it get tricky for me. When I connect to WiFi, I got no restrictions during surfing. But I can't do my work. When I connect the cable with the WiFi connection still there, I can do my work but the restrictions are there. Hence, the wired connection take precedence over the WiFi connection. But I'm still connected to both.

Please help me on how I could connect to both wired and wireless so I could do my work and do web browsing with no quota limitations. I apologise if the description is confusing

Building a new PC

Hello guys, just want to ask your help to check the compatibility of these hardware I'm throwing in to build a home PC for my dad. The PC is mainly for multi-purposes home use. The most extensive graphic application will be AutoCad and SketchUp I guess; and some mini games such as Zombies vs Plants, something like that.

CPU	Core i3 3.3Ghz/ 2 Core/ 4 Threads/ 3MB smart cache/ (HD Graphics 2000) – i3 2120 - LGA1155
MB	Asrock H61M-VS
PSU	ENERMAX NAXN(Tomahawk II) 500W / Active PFC
GPU	ASUS GT610-1GD3 GeForce GT 610 64bit 1GB DDR3
RAM	CORSAIR VS2GB1333D3 - 4GB 1333MHz
HDD	WD5000AAKX WD 500GB, 7200RPM 16M SATA III
ODD	ASUS 24X SATA DVD-RW Drive - DRW-24B1LT
WNIC TpLink TL-WDN4800 PCI-E
Chassis	Bitfenix Merc Alpha

The MB is SATA ll, but I think it is okay if paired up with SATA lll components. I can't find any other SATA lll MB that have a reasonable enough price to match the set up.

PSU. I did some homework on Active PFC but is it okay to use Active PFC PSU? How long will it last? What is the difference between regular PSU?

GPU. I will not bundle the GPU in first purchase. I will add the GPU listed above several months after building this PC. But I put it in the list to make sure that card can fit in the system and the PSU is enough with the card included.

RAM. 1333Mhz 4GB will do. HDD. 500GB is more than enough. ODD in case need to use.

WNIC is important as the router is my room and this PC will be in my dad's room. Kind of far away in about tem metres give or take. I'll hear out suggestion regarding this.

I plan to switch to Bitfenix Prodigy. The design looks much cooler. An eye candy in my perspective. But I guess the chassis does not matter that much. A small chassis is better for Mini ITX. Saved up some spaces in the room.

Except from the stuff listed above, the will no major upgrade in I don't know, ten years? Beli pakai buang for ten years I guess.

Already have a display, mouse, keyboard, speaker, USB hub, and printer from old set.

Advises, reviews, comments, anything especially on the hardware compatibility is appreciated guys. Thanks
