Blackberry to Android

i recently got myself a used iPad1 wi-fi only for reading ebook, and for the occasional web browsing. i like the device, but not enough for me to get an iphone. not sure why but iphone has never really appealed to me, and the only reason i got an ipad was the battery life.

here's the thing: i'm a blackberry holdout. i love my blackberry, and i love the keyboard. i type a lot with my phone, not just facebook and twitter but also emails, lists, blog entries. so you can imagine how dependent i am on a phone with good qwerty keyboard.

it's just that after getting the ipad i'm beginning to think that when it comes to apps to get things done, blackberry is simply on the losing end. case in point: i want to tether my ipad to my blackberry (for times when i need to access the net using ipad) and it requires jailbreaking and then buying an app for $5, whereas iphone and android can do this with much less hassle and for free. in case you haven't realised it yet, i'm also cheap. i don't want to pay for something that's only going to be used occasionally.

for android pros out there, or someone who has made the similar switch:

1. is there an android phone with physical qwerty keyboard that's almost as good as blackberry's?

2. for heavy phone typist out there, how is the experience with virtual keyboard? does something like the swype keyboard make typing easier?

3. how's the battery life like for android compared with blackberry?

4. what's a good android phone that cost around RM1k or so? currently i have a torch and looking to trade that with minimal top up (if i make the switch that is)

looking forward to reading the replies.

Blackberry 9900

Saw the yet to be released bold 9900 this morning. A friend who works for RIM got the phone to test.

Sorry, no picture but based on first impression crackberries will salivate over the phone. A bit thinner than the current bold 2, and less curvy. Good news to those who love the bold 1 keyboard, it's back. The keys are much larger than bold 2 as the phone is wider.

Software wise os7 is not much improvement over os6 in term of look, as the only difference I saw were the more colorful icons. I didn't dig deeper (it was a 15 min conversation in a car) so not sure on additional features.

I wish I could tell you guys more but the only additional info I got is that it's going to be priced around RM2k+. So if u want this phone when it's released better save up now

help, my Host Routing Table is empty!

Phone: Bold 9700
Telco: Digi (Smartplan 68 with BIS)
OS: v.5.0.0.593 (previously v.5.0.0.545)

need help from the BB experts here.

i just got my Bold fairly recently, and i've been playing around with it and installing all sorts of apps. after a while though, my BB started to go gila.

it started with App World giving me "invalid signature" error. and yesterday i discovered that i couldn't connect to my home wifi when i could before. when scanning it said no network found. when i went into wifi setup it was giving me "byte padding" error or something.

so i thought fine, time to reinstall OS. plus it would give me the chance to update to something more recent from Digi (as in the v.5.0.0.593 build)

then this morning i backup everything, did a clean wipe using BBSAK, and installed the OS.

everything turned out fine except i couldn't get connected to Digi BIS!

i checked my HRT and it's empty. since i backup the old service book, i restored that and registered, but nothing happened so far.

i asked Digi to resent my service book, and they said they would, but until now i still haven't received anything. i have done countless battery pulls and restarts and clicking "Register Now", yet my HRT is still empty

btw, where i live i can only get GPRS connection. does this affect anything? (Digi CSE told me it doesn't)

dunno what else to do so please, any help to get my BIS back would be highly appreciated.

thanks!
