Help with my A Levels sub combination please.

I'm planning to do engineering, ideally chem engineering. So, I've decided to take a total of 5 subjects for A Levels, and I will study at Taylors'.

The following is my choice of subjects.

Chem, Physics, Maths, Further Maths, Econs.

Please critique. Not about the extra workload please. I know you have to do the same amount if you attend JC in Singapore.

Will someone also please tell me to what extent Further Maths will help me get into a prestigious uni after A Levels, assuming I do really well.
I was planning to do bio as well, but I'm not sure if it's worth sacrificing Further Maths. Probably not.

Question about English paper, essays. (SPM)

Okay, so I normally get decent marks for English.

At least 80+. The thing is, I usually lose out on the guided essay.
I'm not sure how you're supposed to expand the points, really. Save for maybe adding a few words here and there, jazzing up ****.
The format is rather rigid. As we all know, you have to use all the points according to their given order, and you have to use every single point that is given to you, no exceptions.

Personally, I feel rather restricted by this, and this reflects itself in my essays, which often end up looking awkward and contrived. Anyone care to share their strategies? A bit late lah, but what to do.

I'd also appreciate it if some of you could post a link to an OBJECTIVE, EMPIRICAL guide to scoring for the essay paper, or tell me how to score damn high marks for the essay paper.

How do you start helping in a charity project?

Hello.

So, I'm turning 18 next year, and SPM's going to start(And end) pretty soon. So, right after that, I guess I'll have about a month during which I will be completely free? I was figuring that, since I have all this time, and that college isn't going to start that soon.. I might as well give something back to the community. I think that it should be a good experience for me, and hey, stuff like this looks great on a CV. Can anyone tell me how to get started? I'm thinking of volunteering for UNICEF or Amnesty International. I have no prior experience doing this kind of thing, but I think I'll be able to help in some small way of my own.

If anyone could give me some information, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

IB question.

From what I've read on the subject, the exam system works like this. You have to take a total of 6 subjects, 3 High level, 3 Standard level. In order to receive your diploma, you have to complete 150 hours of community service. 1-7 points are allocated for each subject. The maximum possible score is 45, assuming you receive 3 bonus points for doing god-knows-what.

So, my question is this. How many marks do you need to score these 7 points?

Also, if I have missed out/misunderstood anything, please correct me.

Problem, concerning SPM History.

I recently took my trial exams.

Results, 8A1's, 1C5

That C5 was for History. I memorised practically every single detail from the book, but when I tried to get everything down on paper, I completely bombed, for some reason... Along with 80% of my Form 5 cohort. Strangely enough, I managed to get a 67 last term, despite the fact that I forgot to do one essay question, so it could have been that that particular test was unreasonably difficult.

Nonetheless, I don't want to risk doing badly for history during SPM. Can anyone provide me with a guide to scoring for history please?

Need help regarding International Baccalaureate.

Hello everyone. This is my first post on this forum.

As per the topic title, I am seriously considering taking the IB Diploma programme for my pre-university education.

I am well aware that IB will be a difficult, rigorous course. However, I am also aware that IB Diploma holders are very highly regarded by premier educational institutions throughout the world, including Harvard University. Thought about taking A-Levels once, but reconsidered about half an hour ago.

Currently, I am 17 years old, and I will be taking SPM this coming November.

I have a few questions.

1. Which IB school is the most prestigious? Please include details regarding the application process, prerequisite criterion, and any other information I may need. Ideally, I would like to attend an IB school located in: a. The UK. b. The U.S. c. Singapore. However, the primary factor that will influence my decision is the measure of how prestigious the institution in question is.

2. I know that there is an entry exam. Is passing this exam the only thing required to apply to a good IB school?

3. Will IB students have the time to participate in CCAs, or will practically all the free time we will have have to be dedicated to studying/completing coursework?

4. Accomodation= Provided, yes?

If you have any relevant information, please help me out here. Thanks in advance.
