Prices After GST

Let me be the first to start.

[attachmentid=9835002]

This place has always had RM 50 beer promotion for as long as I remember. Previous receipts were RM 50 inclusive of 6% GST.

At the bottom of this receipt, since GST has been zero rated (no idea why since it is just 31/5), and apparently I don't pay any GST, the beer price remains at RM50.

Yes I don't have old receipts to prove. I do, actually, it's just that I have to get it from my finance department because I have submitted the old ones for entertainment claims. But I am a regular here and I know their prices in and out.

Hope other people can share their findings after 31/5.

Butter Pork Chop Rice

While looking through some old photos, managed to come across a picture of one my fav foods during my uni days.
It brought back nostalgic memories and now i wish to look for it again to have a taste.

It was the butter pork chop rice located at Prima Setapak area. The shop is one of the stalls in a kopitiam located at the shoplot area opposite prima setapak condo. Through Google Maps, I think the road is Jalan Prima Setapak 5. This is easily 10 years ago. Anyone knows if they are still operating? And if not, where have they relocated?

[attachmentid=9261033]

Yes the pic looks blurry and that's because its taken 10 years ago with night mode on. It may look greasy but trust me, it tastes really really good.

Hope you guys can help.

Thanks

Buying stolen handphones from strangers

While I don't support theft and piracy or whatever, I'm just really curious.

While having a smoke break along Juru rest stop, someone approached me to sell me his Iphone 6. Knowing it could be stolen or fake, I just waved him off. But this guy was very persistent. He showed me the phone and also showed me the serial number and all that in the settings menu.

He open price with RM 1,000. I told him I don't carry that much cash with me in the first place. He reduced to RM 700. I told him I still don't have that much cash. He asked me how much I had with me. I threw him a random number, RM 400. He said he will accept RM 400.

My question is, knowing this is a stolen phone, and if somehow the devil in me decided to grab this phone at RM 400, can this phone be used? Or is the owner which this phone was stolen from be able to lock it somehow?

Honda Accord 09 Engine Whining Sound

Basically, there's no sound when idling, but during acceleration, and while rpm is climbing, there will be a high pitched whine (something like supercharger whine). As the gears shift up and moving at constant speed at 2-2.5k rpm the sound is gone. Upon acceleration, the sound comes back.

At the same time, steering wheel vibrates when turning it while idle or going at slow speed (e.g. reversing out of car park lot).

dear sifus, any idea what's happening? I googled around but the problem seems to stem from a variety of parts from power steering pump to gearbox to engine pully to timing chain etc etc.

Would like to seek sifus help before going into random workshop to be ketuk-ed.

On another note, steering wheel judders a bit during hard braking. Problem with the brakes?

WTA Upgrade Recommendations

Dear sifus,

Looking forward to your kind assistance on how to upgrade my old PC for gaming purposes. I just recently got into buying games from Steam (used to play on ps3 and xbox). But having trouble with some new games as my PC is about 3-4 years old and was bought back then on a RM 2k budget.

Motherboard: Gigabyte H55M-UD2H
CPU : Intel® Core™ i3 CPU 540 @ 3.07GHz
GPU : NVIDIA GeForce GT 240
RAM : 4gb
Monitor : Samsung 27" FHD

Newer titles like Tomb Raider absolutely killed my PC even at medium-low settings. The PC either just hang or the game just shut itself off and I'm back to my desktop.

I understand I can't just buy the best GPU from the market and chuck it in there. So I'm looking for advice on what to change. Can the current mobo handle newer GPUs? And should the CPU be changed as well?

Please also include other accessories like bigger cooling fan, power supply, ram upgrade etc if needed. At the same time, I hope this upgrade will last another year or two.

Thank you all very much.

Concrete Sales

Hi guys,

Got an interview with one of the local Ready-Mixed Concrete companies as a sales exec.

Would like to know what's the nature of a concrete salesperson?

Job ad says they require someone with just SPM/STPM...but I have a degree. And I've been hearing a lot about how concrete sales is quite lucrative moneywise because of all the comission but there's nothing much to learn after a certain time. Is is true?

Would love to hear everyone's opinion though.

Thanks

What do you eat to save $$$?

Hey guys, we all know that food consumption is one of our major expenses...so I was wondering, with the pay you have, what do you eat everyday for breakfast, lunch and dinner?

Maybe I can get the ball rolling first.

1st job
Location :- PJ

Earnings :- 1.8k gross pay

Major Expenses :- Rental + broadband + hp = 500

What I ate :- During this time I had economy rice for lunch everyday which amounted to about RM4 a day (cos I usually take more meat then vege ), cos you know food in PJ is kinda expensive. It was maggi for dinner for a couple of weeks. Then I started cooking rice + hot dog + egg which is rougly RM1.50 per meal if you consider a small pack of rice = RM5, tesco sausages = RM2 and eggs = RM5...all this ngam ngam is 10 meals.

Weekend splurges :- Because I have a gf I cant force her to hop over to my house to have rice wiv sausage + egg, so during weekends I will bring her to eat something better. Usually end up spending between RM30-50 per meal for 2. Can say we'll eat bout 3 times together so its about 100-150 every weekend. This is not including movie tickets, and other stuff guys spend on girls.

Savings :- Couple of hundred at best. 400 was the most.

2nd job
Location :- USJ

Earnings :- 3.3k allowances included gross

Major Expenses :- Same as above

What I ate :- My 2nd job required me to spend 2 weeks outstation and 2 weeks in USJ. When I'm outstation, I have hawker food for lunch which is around RM5 and had bread with margarine for dinner, which is around RM1.20. In USJ, I had economy rice RM4 and cooked a better dinner of rice + chicken/fish + vege which is roughly RM5-7 per meal.

Weekend splurges :- The weekend splurges from the last jobs spilled over onto the weekdays as well as when I'm lazy to cook I'll just call her out and we go for something nice. So instead of splurging for 2 days a week, it was now around 3-4 days a week.

Savings :- Easily 800-1000 a month. 1700 was the most.

3rd job
Location :- PJ

Earnings :- 2.2k (retrenched from 2nd job due to economy)

Major Expenses :- Same as usual

What I ate :- During this time, I had the habit of skipping breakfast + lunch altogether. Maybe depressed because of moving from high paying to low paying job. Most of the time I only have a cup of milo for lunch which is RM2 or cheaper depending on where. For dinner, I continue to cook with the same ingredients as my 2nd job.

Weekend splurges :- Same as the first job. Only 2 times a week. Sometimes less as I will spend more to buy better ingredients and cook and invite my gf over.

Savings :- Easily 400-500. 800 was the most.

Of course all the above does not include other expenditures like cigarettes, presents, DVDs, cyber cafe gaming, clubbing(strictly once a month only), toiletries and many other FMCG stuff la. So basically I would say I spend about 3-400 on meals for my 1st job, near 1k for my 2nd job and about 5-600 for my 3rd job.

What bout you guys? What are you eating now?

Confused

Dear forumers,

I feel that I am in a predicament and I hope to get some help.

I am currently working as a sales in Company A(CA). Before CA, I was in Company B(CB), as a sales also, but covering the industrial sector. In CA, I am covering the education sector.

During my time in CB, I was required to travel to Johor for 2 weeks, while another 2 weeks is spent in KL to do paperwork. In Johor, I am supposed to go into the factories and meet at least 4 ppl a day. The nett pay (after EPF and SOSCO deduction but plus allowances) is around RM3.3k. I left the company because the economic downfall affected CB and they had to practise the "last in first out rule". Also, they had sent some senior sales to Japan for training so they were bonded to the company for a year and couldn;t be sacked.

I left CB to join CA in April. I am required to travel around Klang Valley everyday. I have to call up or go door to door to see every single lecturer in a university. This is harder than my time in CB because that time, all I had to do was call a factory, ask for the department manager and introduce my product. But because in the education sector, we cannot determine who uses my product and who don't. Thats why I have to see every single person. My nett pay for CA is RM2.1k.

Bros and sifus,

I know that the amount CA pays me is of a typical sales person. What I can't stand is the management of CA. In CB, if we could bring back 2 cases a week, the managers were happy. In CB, I closed 300k in sales before the economic downfall. The senior who took over from me closed 200k in June and another 300k is pending on the customer's budget. All these cases were forecasted by me, which means I had convinced the customer to buy the product from CB but because of the economy they couldnt buy at the time I was in CB. My senior closed those sales in June when the economy was starting to recover.

In CA, I had to get 5 cases a week. Since May, I have been screwed over and over because I couldnt get the 5 cases. It has even gone to such an extreme that they are suspecting me of lepaking instead of working. The funny thing is, in the education sector, purchase of equipment has to go through a sebut harga. I explained to them that since April, only 1 sebut harga has come out from my area of coverage. Which practically means there was only 1 case. If they suspect me of lepaking they would know once a sebut harga comes out in the newspaper. If I was lepaking, of course I would fail to forecast that particular case.

Now, I am required to see 8 lecturers a day (walking under the sun from faculty to faculty), do a daily report instead of a weekly report, and a weekly update instead of a monthly update. Basically I am supposed to do double the workload of CB, while being monitored so strictly, while my pay is RM1.2k less than what CB used to pay me. CB has expressed an interest to rehire me but it will have to be sometime next year.

I cannot stand my life in CA now. So my question is, should I leave CA? I do not think I can wait till CB rehires me. But if I leave CA, it would make my resume look bad because I've been with CA for only 4 months. Can you guys recommend me a proper course of action? I thank you sincerely.
