Severely lagging computer performance

Hello guys, need help with my laptop. It's been performing tasks realllly slowly for the past few months, and even after doing several solutions that may have to do with my laptop's problems, the problem still persists. Before I get to the problem, first let me tell you how situation that leads to this slowdown.

Few months ago I was rushing for an AutoCAD job, and being in my house with no other computers I resorted to using CAD on my laptop. Now the laptop itself is equipped with fine computing power; Windows 7 64-bit, 4 GB of RAM, a Core i7 processor and a GT425M GPU, but for some apparent reason, using a program that is slightly more demanding than a Word processor causes the fan to turn more rapidly and the computer heats up like crazy. I did not have this problem when I first purchased this computer; we are talking about a laptop which I first used to complete Crysis 2. Anyway so I was running CAD all while the computer heats up, until it had to shut itself off to prevent further damage. But since I am rushing to complete the CAD job, I proceeded to boot up CAD all over again, ignoring the overheating computer.

So the CAD job is completed and all is well, when I noticed some severe slowdowns the next few days. I can't run Diablo 2 or any games for that matter without the computer freezing once every five seconds, movies take whole 10 minutes to start, choppy music, programs would sporadically "not respond"...

So I did what anyone would've done; sent it to customer service (it's a Sony VAIO) and told the reception to please check if there're any "problems" (yeah, I'm being way too vague here). So after two weeks, apparently the GPU fan was dusty and they had to replace it, and was charged 200 bucks (past warranty). I asked again if there're any other problems they had encountered, and again was told the only problem is the dusty fan, which is also the reason for the rapid heat accumulation. Fair enough, I thought, paid the bill and got out of there.

But thing is, the lagging problem is still there. Virus, worm, spyware scans turn up nothing, defragmented (which took almost two whole days [!] but still did nothing) the drive, uninstalled programs I can think had nothing to do with vital Windows files, scanned the registry and repaired it, and did those WHOLE cycle times and times for months. It's still not fixed. Resorted to the overkill method - to reformat the whole computer. Nope, problem still there. Severe lagging still everywhere.

So I came to the conclusion it might not be the hardware, or malicious files, but rather something more to do with the root. System files corrupted probably. Google searches turn up results with similar symptoms as mine, which are most likely caused by svchost.exe taking up CPU cycles and memory. There are lots of solution for varying symptoms (but with the common issue being svchost.exe hogging up resources), tried them all, only to be granted full performance momentarily, before lagging back 10-20 minutes afterwards.

Computer gurus please help me! If you need more detail, do tell me what other info I should post here. Thank you!

As far as my research goes, I'm inclined to enroll in the Japanese Language Society Malaysia due to their reasonable fee of RM2500.00 for 172 hours of lesson.

Where to buy separate pen for Bamboo Fun?

Hey guys, I had a problem with my pen for Wacom Bamboo Fun. The tip and the buttons don't work anymore, although the eraser part still works. The tablet detects the eraser just fine, but don't respond at all when I hover the tip over the tablet.

I updated to the latest drivers, re-installed it, same problem. I figured it might be the problem with the pen, and a quick Google search gave me this guide, which detailed the same problem I have and how to fix it:

Thing is, it still didn't work. There IS a crack at the ferrous coil which I mended using the least amount of UHU glue possible, but still to no avail. The eraser part still works, though.

Which brought me to realization that I may have to get a new pen. Are the pens sold separately? Where can I obtain one?

[WTA] Headphones repair place

Hello guys, I have two headphones with similar problems. One is a Koss Porta Pro, and the other one is Razer Orca. I had the Portapro for quite some time, about two years, while the Orca is only recently purchased, about six months.

The Problem I'm facing is that only one of the side of the headphones that sound can be heard. For the Portapro, if I play with the part of wire between the jack and the beginning of the wire, sometimes sound does play on both sides. For the Orca, nothing. Just the left side.

I suspect it's the problem with the wiring, so probably the repair job should be quite simple. Is there any place I can go to repair these phones? Preferably around Seri Kembangan/Bukit Jalil/IOI area.

Hello guys, recently after playing a myriad of FPS-clones and getting tired of them, I picked up BlazBlue CT for PC, and I gotta say it made me fell in love with fighting games. I used to think these games are crazy hard and only for the hardcore fighting game fans, but although it's true BB is goddamned hard to master, it certainly is fun to play.

Thing is I've been using the 360 pad for BB, and the awful D-pad really blows me over when I'm trying to perform specials. I can always pull the right analog but there's no fun in that...

In the future I'm planning to pick up SSF4, MvC3 and Continuum Shift for the Xbox 360. Yeah I'd suck big time at them but who cares.

So now would be a good time for me to invest in a fight stick. Anyone can recommend me good and cheap fight sticks? I was thinking Hori EX2 as it seemed the cheapest but I'd also want one that is sturdy and felt easy to use. Oh, it'd also be great if it was supported on the PC and X360, so I could switch playing SSF4 on 360 and BB on PC.

I also heard the modded USB old Sega Saturn controller is also among the best gamepad for fighting games. Thoughts?

Hello, my PC specs are as follows:

Intel Core i7-620 2.67Ghz
ATI Radeon 4870
6GB RAM
Vista 64-Bit Home

Thing is, the computer was working fine half a year or so ago, but now it seemed to perform really bad on all games; I have been getting inconsistent framerates on many games, but it wasn't like a lag at all, more like hiccups where certain moments it played as it should, and the next it stuttered so bad it's literally unplayable. If I have to compare it to something, it's like the computer was busy working on some other program on the background, but when I Alt-Tabbed back to Windows and open the Task Manager the CPU usage never went over 30%...

I've done defrags, driver update, disabling antivirus, end unnecessary programs... Still meh.

AND more weird is the fact that if I left the computer running for 2++ hours, the games can perform normally, as if the computer needs warming up before being able to play the games.

Maybe it's the svchost.exe memory leak I've been googling about, but ending the svchost.exe process only returns small increase in framerate, the hiccups are still there...

How to practice Chopin?

Hello, I've started playing the piano for about 3 months now. I can already play the three gymnopedies of Erik Satie and some Haydn pieces. I am now thinking of trying the fast-paced Chopin pieces.

I tried the Impromptu, only to be overwhelmed by how fast the piece should be played, and how difficult to match the left part and right part.

Is there any Chopin pieces that I as beginner should practice? And anyone mind to share a few techniques?

How to check computer running on multiple cores?

Just a question, how to check whether computer is running on single or dual or mutiple cores?

BUT it detected as only having one core! How come? I'm using an i7 rig!

And come to think of it, the multicore rendering in L4D2 was greyed out, meaning my PC cannot detect another processor?

I'm using a Vista-based computer with HD4870, and Core i7-920 CPU. The problem to my computer is that it fails to start up; you know how after pressing the power button and after a while it beeps? After that it shuts itself, then restarts. It repeats and repeats. Sometimes it made to the Windows Error Recovery but still after a while it restarts. Sometimes only one second prior to pressing the button the PC restarts.

And what's made it more weird is that this happens right after I installed Steam.

Please help me!
