Sarawak assembly triples pay

KUCHING: The monthly remuneration of the Sarawak chief minister, deputy chief minister, ministers, assistant ministers and state assemblymen will rise by about three-fold under a bill approved Tuesday by the state legislative assembly.

The Members of the Administration and Members of Dewan Undangan Negeri (Remuneration, Pensions and Gratuities) Bill 2013 also provides for an increase in the remuneration for the state assembly speaker, deputy speaker and political secretaries.

The remuneration of the chief minister will rise from RM13,000 to RM39,000; deputy chief minister, RM11,500 to RM35,000; senior minister and state assembly speaker, RM9,000 to RM30,000; ministers, RM9,000 to RM27,000; assistant ministers and assembly deputy speaker, RM7,000 to RM21,000; state assemblymen, RM4,500 to RM15,000 and political secretaries, RM3,000 to RM9,000.

The bill provides for the increase in remuneration to take effect from Jan 1 last year. The last adjustment in the remuneration was in 1992.

Second Finance Minister Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh said a review of the remuneration was done in view of the increasing expectations of the people.

"Sarawak is as big as Semenanjung (the peninsula) and a lot of Members of the Dewan Undangan Negri (state assemblymen) have to cover a large territory, particularly those who serve the rural areas," he said.

Wong said the new bill would take effect by next week and the exercise was expected to incur RM17mil in state funds, inclusive of the backdated pay from last year. - Bernama

source
source

Cops lowered crime statistics, says watchdog

PETALING JAYA, Feb 6 — The police had slashed the national crime statistics by more than half for snatch theft and robbery without firearms from January to October 2011, crime watchdog MyWatch alleged today.

MyWatch also provided the media copies of an internal letter by federal police CID chief Datuk Seri Bakri Zinin that recorded 43,792 cases of burglary and house breaks from January to October 2011, compared to the 30,200 figure publicly released by the police.

“Snatch and robbery without firearms recorded at 17,882 cases, while (the) published PDRM crime index says only total of 7,324 cases, which again has a shortfall of 10,558 cases,” MyWatch chairman R. Sri Sanjeevan said at a press conference here today.

Sanjeevan also urged Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Ismail Omar (picture) to reveal standard operating procedures for arrests.

He added that the police had incorrectly calculated the case-solving rate for 2011 and 2012.

“Example, in a vehicle theft case, it is considered case solved when they discover the stolen vehicle without the suspect being arrested. I believe it’s not what Interpol’s requirement is,” said Sanjeevan.

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Sanjeevan said last month that the crime rate had gone up last year, pointing out that the overall vehicle theft had in the July-September period in 2012 risen by 3.5 per cent, or 624 cases, in comparison with the same period in 2011.

He has also said that serious crimes such as criminal intimidation, kidnapping, extortion and causing grievous hurt are classified as non-index crimes, which are not included in the national crime statistics.

The police divide crime into two categories, index and non-index — with the former defined as crime that is reported with sufficient regularity and significance to be a meaningful indicator of the crime situation, while the latter is considered as minor in nature.

Former IGP Tan Sri Musa Hassan, the patron of MyWatch, who was also at the press conference here today, said that the police needed to “get the public to feel (that) crime is going down.”

“If you don’t reveal it (the crime statistics), the public will feel there is something wrong,” he said.

Musa has previously accused the government of hiding facts about the crime rate from the public.

But the police had last August issued a detailed reply to rebut allegations that it had manipulated crime statistics.

source

KL motorists pay RM10mil in fines every year

KL motorists pay RM10mil in fines every year to traffic police

KUALA LUMPUR: Motorists in Kuala Lumpur pay fines of up to RM10mil every year for committing traffic offences.

According to the Kuala Lumpur Police, 22,054 traffic summonses were issued between January and September last year and 33,836 traffic summonses were issued in 2010, totalling RM10.15mil.

City Traffic Police chief, ACP Rusli Mohd Noor said 35,185 traffic summonses were issued to motorists between January and September last year for beating traffic lights.

Fines incurred last year amounted to RM10.55mil.

Under the Road Transport Act 1987, if road users beat traffic signals, they have to pay a fine of RM300.

Rusli said the summonses were issued based on camera recordings at traffic light junctions.

Some of the summonses were issued by traffic policemen stationed at the city's streets.

TL:DR

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

PAYING FINES

The rather 'shocking and astronomical' numbers of traffic summonses were issued to errant motorists in the city.

What about the number of traffic summonses and fines issued to motorists nationwide?

The figures show that errant motorists are not worried about their safety; they are only worried about reaching their respective destinations on time.

Errant motorists are not affected by the fines. Hence, traffic rules are not effective in reducing the number of traffic offences in the country.

According to many newspapers, tragic accidents also have no impact on the attitude of reckless motorists.

"It depends on the attitude of motorists when they are driving on the roads. They are not worried about their safety and others' safety.

"They should learn to respect other road users too," Rusli told Bernama.

TRAFFIC LIGHTS

"Many motorists do not follow traffic rules. If motorists follow traffic rules, the roads will be safer for other road users, and it will ease traffic congestion," he said.

He said motorists who beat traffic signals endanger their lives and the lives of other road users.

According to Rusli, people should respect the yellow traffic light.

"Many people do not understand. If the traffic light turns yellow, road users should slow down and bring their vehicles to a stop," he said.

People have suggested increasing fines for people who do not follow traffic rules. However, Rusli believes that by increasing fines, the lower income groups will get affected.

"Low income groups may stop breaking traffic rules but rich people will continue to break traffic rules and pay fines," said Rusli.

Hence, errant motorists should change their attitude. By breaking the traffic law, motorists not only put their lives at risk, but they put the lives of other road users at risk too. - Bernama

source

MOEN Violent Metal MO-VM distortion pedal

i bought this pedal half a year ago at The Guitar Store Damansara Perdana(sole distributor) after trying out the wide array of pedals they had there and i was pretty much stuck between this pedal and the MetalZone. In the end, i picked out this China-made pedal because i felt it had a greater crunch and aggro in it.

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

MOEN Violent Metal MO-VM - made in china
Pros
- sturdy casing
- very versatile; has 6 tone knobs: Low, Mid, Hi, Level, Mid Freq, Dist.
- Amp booster
- able to achieve heavy crunches

Cons
- Not popular, outshadowed by the MetalZone
- can't achieve too high Mid settings
- battery connector has some problems(might just be my unit)
- on/off button might be too small for some
_____________________________________________________________________________

First off, don't be fooled by the made in china label, its not that bad. After testing this pedal through a 100watt marshall amp, i tested it through an MG30 to be sure it would sound good on a smaller amp, and it did. With a list price of RM295, most people compare this pedal to the MetalZone and go with the more tried and true pedal instead.

This distortion pedal is no laughing matter, it can get really deep crunchy tones and also smooth, laid back tones as well. having 6 knobs(similar to the MT2), it is very versatile in its functions. there is a lot of room for tweaking and fine tuning and you will be able to find your tone from this pedal no matter how fussy you are

with this pedal, i am able to achieve various tones, from kirk hammett to alexi laiho to valkyrie1232 The only downside is you can't really get a really warm tone because too much mids will make everything on the higher register sound too muddy and even crack if you crank it up too much. to achieve that warm tone, i turn up my mids to about 12 - 1oclock and switch to my neck pickup. there's no need to keep the distortion at max because this pedal has some serious distortion in it.

i compared this pedal again with the metalzone a couple of days ago, matching both settings and i find that this pedal has less hum in it compared to the metalzone. However, the metalzone was able to reach warmer tones, with higher mid settings.

Next, there is a useful amp booster located on the left side of the pedal. by switching it on, the output will be increased by A LOT, i have to turn it off because switching it on makes it really loud and it might blow my amp. however, the tone gets really heavy and very very distorted. Perfect for heavy palm muting rhythm playing.

As the name suggests, this pedal is great for metal. it gives you a killer sound, more violent than ever(hence the name). I haven't compared this to the ML2 yet, but i doubt this pedal will be able to produce as much distortion as the ML2(based on what people say). All in all, this pedal is worth trying out if you are looking for a Metal pedal. It comes a very close 2nd to the metalzone in most aspects. Price wise, its slightly cheaper(RM295 against RM320) than the metalzone.

i hope this review was helpful and hopefully will give you an insight of this little pedal and maybe you'll go down to The Guitar Store and give it a try

Ease of Use: 8 (too many knobs might be complicated to some)
Sound:	10 (very versatile in achieving various tones)
Reliability: 8 (my battery connector had problems)
Impression: 9 (looks good, sounds good)
Overall: 8.8/10
