Windows 7 / Hard disk won't boot

Hi. I added RAM today and changed my DVD ROM & changed my power supply.

Now my windows 7 and hard disk won't boot/ start. How to solve this problem ?

A few days back, my Maxtor Basics portable (500 GB) external hard disk was having some "cyclic reduancy error". I tried a "Scan disk" but the checking status just remain the same.

Therefore, I "Quick Format" the hard disk after reading on a tech forum.

However, I want to know if it is -

1) Possible to recover the data lost (I have A LOT OF important data in that hard disk)

2) I have this software called Recuva and it is taking a very long time to scan for the files. The last I checked it says "12 days remaining"

Also, will adding RAM help "make the scan faster" as I plan to add RAM.

Does Low Yat offer data recovery services and how much would it cost on average ?
