Inspiron 1420 auto shutdown

My 3.5 year old Inpiron 1420 laptop has been shutting down on it own without warning or indication. Sometimes it's very frequent (few times in a day) while some other times it only auto shut down occasionally (around 2-3 times per month). At first I thought it's an overheating problem so I got myself a cooler master cooling pad but this problem still persist. Is there any way I can solve this problem permanently?
