Developers vs IT Professionals

I'm currently at the cusp of deciding which path I'd like to go down in an IT career, so I need some advice on people who have traveled the path before. I've narrowed down my basic choices to going Dev or ITPro, but would like to know your views on the work, pay and career progression for both paths. Dev would be programming, web or otherwise and ITPro would be servers and networks. Databases aren't in my plans for the present. I like coding, but also have an interest in servers and security. Will have a degree in Computing in another year's time.

Developer:
Programmer -> Team Lead -> System Analyst -> ?
C/C++/ASP.NET/Java/?

SAP?

ITPro:
Support Tech -> System Engineer -> ?
Linux/Unix/Cisco/Windows/?

Some feedback and analysis of each career path is welcome, particularly from people who have experienced both. Would like to understand more particularly on career progression, and the most efficient way for that, be it certification or an extra degree or more experience.

Cafe with WiFi in PJ

Anybody know what's a good cafe/restaurant around PJ with WiFi? Must have power outlets, and preferably not too expensive.

Starbucks is out, since we're planning to hang around there for at least 2 meals which will definitely ruin our student budget.

Windows Vista Ultimate

I know Vista comes in 2 flavours, retail and OEM, with the retail with both 32 and 64bit, in its ergonomic box, and the OEM in separate 32 and 64bit flavours. Not too sure about the upgrade version. Anyway, does anybody know which distro comes in a paper sleeve in sealed plastic? The DVDs are Vista Ultimate, both 32 and 64 bit with the KPDN/HEP sticker on the plastic outside. It's definitely original, BTW.

Cholesterol Questions

I had a recent blood test, and to my shock i had a pretty high cholesterol level, especially on the LDL (4.1 mmol/l, ref <2.6). However, my triglycerides are very low (0.7, ref <1.7). HDL is average (1.55, ref >1.04). Total cholesterol 6, ref <5.2.

I almost freaked out, considering i'm totally skinny, and have been doing capoeira for close to 3 years, and am pretty conscious about food. After a long trawl through the web, i discovered 2 schools of thought, the first being that cholesterol, particularly LDLs are evil, to be reduced at all costs. The other takes into account size of particles and HDL/total and triglyceride/HDL ratios. If i follow the second, i should have a HDL/total ratio of 0.26 (ref > 0.24) and trig/HDL of 1.03 (ref < 2) and thus should be disgustingly healthy. According to the first, i'd be a pretty good candidate for heart attack city.

http://www.yourmedicaldetective.com/public/523.cfm
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Low_density_lipoprotein <--- discussion on size towards the end

Any enlightenment and opinions would be welcome, thanks.

Opening the same application from a dual booted OS

Previously, i was using a "discount" copy of XP Pro. The installation cd which i used was quite unique, in the sense that it could install both XP Home and XP Pro, and had a reported size of around 1.1gb in My Computer. Yes, it's a CD. From what i see, some enterprising programmer managed to set the CD to refer to the same files physically, where installation for XP Home and Pro coincides.

Fast forward to the present, and now i have a problem of having too many OSes. I have an OEM XP Home installed on my laptop, and a MSDN AA copy of XP Pro, and 2 original Vista RC1 dvds (32 and 64bit). All legit.

My current problem is that if i dual boot, all my games and apps will be stuck on the original OS. I will face serious space problems if i reinstall everything on the new OS, especially Vista with its 15gb requirement.

So, has anybody tried running apps off the same files installed in another OS partition, without affecting the application on its original OS partition? What do you guys think? Workable? Might have to recreate some registry settings, but it sounds almost feasible to me.

Flexibility: HOW TO?

Anybody knows what are good stretches to get more flexible? Particularly in the hamstring region. I've been training capoeira for close to 2 years now, but STILL can't touch my toes. It sucks too to kick at waist level when everybody else is aiming for your head.

I've done all the basic stretches, but they don't really seem to produce results. Anybody have any info on isometric or PNF stretches or other more effective methods?
