New Year's resolution: Have more sex

(CNN) -- Yoga instructor Sadie Nardini and her husband got an early start on their New Year's resolution: In December, the New York couple decided to have sex every day for the entire month.

Nardini and her husband, a professional photographer, initially decided to have sex like bunnies in the hopes that all the activity might help them overcome his-and-her bad habits: cigarettes and chocolate, respectively. And indeed, the nightly trysts did help. But they also found, unexpectedly, that frequent sex made them feel better in other ways, too.

Nardini says they both slept better and had more energy, and she didn't get a cold or the flu all month as she usually does in the winter. "Sex doesn't seem at first glance to be the cure for what ails you, but there's so many health benefits of having more sex," Nardini says. "Anyone can be better served by having more sex."

In fact, the experiment was so successful, the couple plans to have daily sex in January, too.

Researchers have long known that not only is sex fun (when done with the right person, of course), but that people who have frequent sex tend to live longer and have healthier hearts and lower rates of certain cancers. These studies also show that men with an active sex life have healthier sperm, and sexually active women have fewer menopause symptoms.

"Evolution is not politically correct," Brody says. "Evolution strongly rewards behaviors that increase the likelihood of successful gene propagation, and only one behavior -- penile-vaginal intercourse -- is potentially reproductive."

But sex researcher Beverly Whipple, who wrote an article in 2003 titled "The Health Benefits of Sexual Expression," disagrees, saying that other types of sexual activity are also associated with physical health benefits.

She adds that it's not entirely clear whether sex makes people healthier, or whether healthy people tend to have more sex.

"It's a chicken-egg situation," says Whipple, professor emerita of psychology at Rutgers University, in New Jersey. "We can't definitively say there's a cause-and-effect relationship between sex and better health."

While the underlying reasons might be unclear, here's a list of health benefits that people who have frequent sex enjoy.

'Crime lord's' fake penis falls off in raid

SOUTH African police caught more than they expected in a Cape Town drug raid when a strap-on dildo fell off a suspected crime lord during a search, the Sunday Times reported.

Fat Murphy, feared on the streets of Cape Town's notorious Cape Flats suburb, told a court that he is a hermaphrodite who holds male and female identity documents - one under the name Fadwaan, the other under Hilary.

Police and a tearful Murphy recounted the saga during a bail hearing for Murphy's charges of possession of stolen property, which come on top of earlier charges of kidnapping and intimidation, the paper said.

"I had a vagina that could not be penetrated. But I also had male organs, testes. But I always knew I was really a man and that was what I wanted to be," he told the court, according to the newspaper.

"God created me with both sexual organs. It was God's decision, not mine."

Murphy has been married twice - his second wife's name is tattooed on his arm. He said received his male identity documents after undergoing surgery to remove his female organs when he was in his teens, the paper said.

Police say Murphy offered them 9,100 rand ($1300) not to search him during the raid.

Police said they were investigating how Murphy obtained his male identity documents, saying they found no records of him undergoing sex change surgery.

Murphy was released on 300 rand ($43) bail.

Battle of the sexes - one gene keeps us either male or female, scientists find

Women and men are constantly battling to suppress their masculine and feminine sides - at least biologically, claim scientists.

Researchers have found that the body is in a constant fight to remain either female or male and the suppression of just one gene could cause it to "flip" from one to the other.

In mammals, males have XY chromosomes and females XX. The new research shows that another gene is responsible for switching women into men.

Japanese man takes video game character as wife

TOKYO (Reuters) – A Japanese man has married a character in a popular video game, taking her -- and his handheld game console -- on an overseas honeymoon.

The man, who prefers to use his online moniker SAL9000, met character Nene Anegasaki while playing dating simulation game "Love Plus."

They got married a few weeks ago, broadcasting their ceremony live on Japan's version of video-sharing website Youtube.

SAL9000, who did not want to reveal his real name for fear of being misunderstood, admits to be an "otaku," a breed of Japanese youth obsessed with video games, computers and fantasy worlds.

"In the Japanese otaku or nerd culture, there's a tradition of calling characters my wife, and I sort of thought of Nene as my wife. Since I was calling her that, I thought we'd just have to get married then," he told Reuters Television.

"If more people were to find ways of expressing themselves like this, I think it would make society a bit more interesting."

The newlyweds, who went on a honeymoon to Guam, now go on dates around Tokyo, with SAL9000 taking pictures of Nenen, installed in his Nintendo DS, in front of famous landmarks and then posting them on social networking sites.

Trained-up ninja monkeys 'turn on master'

A Chinese monkey trainer who trained his animals to do martial arts reportedly got the shock of his life when his proteges suddenly turned on him.

Entertainer Lo Wung was knocked to the ground in a vicious attack by his monkeys while entertaining a shopping crowd in eastern China's Hubei province, The Sun newspaper reports, quoting a man who says he saw the attack and caught it on his camera.

The 42-year-old trainer had previously taught his monkeys basic taekwondo moves to amuse his audiences, but the monkeys had no qualms in using the skills against their master, Hu Luang told The Sun newspaper.

"I saw one punch him in the eye — he grabbed another by the ear and it responded by grabbing his nose," the newspaper quoted Mr Luang as saying.

"They were leaping and jumping all over the place — it was better than a Bruce Lee film."

My fren got tickets for the premiere yesterday.

Is a movie about sum survivors in a zombie apocalypse. I found the movie very funny and entertaining, though not really scary despite being a zombie movie. The narration from the nerdy guy also adds a more storybook feel to it.

Even Shaun of the Dead had its scary and somber moments, but you don't get that in Zombieland. Though there are some 'sad' moments in the movie, they don't dwell on it very long, and its softened by more humor.

Definitely worth a view, feel like playing L4D2 after watching it.

She was working for a scam operation.

I was approached by a cute girl, so you know I humor her a little. She said was from this company, Oasis Worldwide Sdn Bhd and said they were having a "peel and win" contest, with prizes apparently included water filters up to shares in the company.

I peel off the sticker from the 'prize' thing, and it said "BOT" upon which she ran around the corner excitedly and called some other people over, and they made a big show of being excited as well. I wanted to see their modus operandi (and so be able to warn others) so I played along and pretended to be interested.

She started gushing and jizzing herself almost convincingly over it and saying that I won a rare prize, which was a 0.5% of shares in their company, and because of that she'll get RM1200 comission. Another one of the scammers came over and explained further, saying that i'd get RM12k worth of products from their company as well, which would be presented immediately upon my registration with them at their offices.

They made a show about checking to see if I had a proper Malaysian IC, saying that the contest was only valid for citizens, and jizzed themselves again commenting that my IC picture was very leng chai (its not, its a horrible pic in fact) etc. Then they told me that of course all this is not free, and i'd have to pay a one-time sum of RM6000 for their "advertising fees", and showed me a folder full of newspaper clippings.

They said i'd have to go immediately to their office in OUG to register, and were very, very insistent I told them I wasn't free to go. After dicking around with them for abit, I told them I was only free tomorrow, upon which they told me I had to "book" my prize, and pay RM300 as a 'deposit', trying to assure me by saying it was refundable and they'd give me one of their products as a sign of their sincerity.

When I told them I didn't have that much money, they told me I could pay RM150 instead, while the other RM150 would be settled by the girl who approached me, since she'd get a big comission. Of course i'm not a dumbass, so I told them no, but I took their "business" card so I could do some digging.

They even deviously mentioned that they were not one of those 'scratch and win' scams, again brandishing their folder of newspaper clippings (mostly chinese newspapers) and said that if they were illegal, they wouldn't be able to get permission from the bandaraya officials to have their 'contest' there. And when I stood my ground, the others at the back also show black face already.

Upon the card I saw two office addresses, one in Penang and one in OUG.

Also had two web addresses:

The first of which has nothing to do with their little setup, while the second is a crappy Flash site they did set up.

There was surprisingly little English info on the company on the net, and can only find one news story on The Star and a generic press release on some adun's blog.

Further googling shows an entry here, classifying the company as an MLM.

Thing is, these kinds of scams really pull at one's greedy tendencies, the trick is to not let greed blind your common sense. If it sounds too good to be true, then is always is.

TL;DR, Oasis Worldwide Sdn Bhd is yet another scam operation evolved from 'scratch & win contests'.
