I am currently working at Company A for Job A for $5k a month. Recently I went for an interview at Company B, for Job B where the job scope is significantly wider than what I currently do.

Here's the problem: being naive, I didn't know what the market rate for Job B was, so I put down my expected salary as $5k+30%. After doing my research (too late, I know), I found out that Job B typically pays $15k (i.e. 300% of what I currently earn) as a market rate on average.

I managed to bring this up in my second interview, and very luckily they said they would review with me once I confirm get the job. Well, now I have gotten the job and I am scheduled to have a conversation with them about this matter.

The first question I am expecting from them is, you only earn $5k in your last company, why should we pay you $15k? Sure I can argue that is the market rate, or that it is a promotion so I deserve it; but at the end of the day I am painfully aware that I have no leverage. And I really want the job so deep down I don't dare to just walk away...

If you are in this situation, how would you argue for $15k salary? Do firms normally give raises to the market rate level? Or is the current salary + fixed % an undesirable reality we have to deal with?

I know it's a high quality problem to have but... I really want the $15k salary (or even $12k) so please don't give me suggestions saying I should just accept the $5k+30%...

FAQ:

1. How is the quality?
Quality is decent, obviously cannot compare to the premium brands as above. But mine has lasted for one year already. Feels a bit cheap, but is an affordable Bluetooth headphone, so not much to complain.

2. Is there any warranty? Can we trust the manufacturer?
Yes, there is a 1 year HK warranty. However, to be perfectly honest, there is no Malaysian office for iDBz so you have to go to HK to claim.
So I will offer 3 months seller's warranty. As long as manufacturer's defect within that window, I will refund no questions asked. Like I said above, mine has lasted me one year.

3. So good? Sure boh?
Well, it is 4 times cheaper than the nearest premium competitor. If spoil after 1 year, buy new one lah! Worst case scenario, still saved 50%!

Hi mods, I've read the rules regarding no advertisements/sales, but I'm not a salesman, just a guy who really needs help to get rid of an oversized shoe... mods if I'm breaking any rules please help to close the thread... but hope you can leave it thanks...

Basically, I bought a New Balance MT110 minimalist shoe (size 12.5 US) from overseas about 6 months ago, and it turned out to be half size too big. I've tried getting used to it, but it's been 6 months so I don't think trying any more is going to help... as a result I'm offering to part with it to someone who might be interested.

I know it's a shot in the dark given that you also have to be a size 12.5, but if you're a match I'm willing to give it to you at a steep discount. I won't post the price here so I don't break any rules, but suffice to say you will get enormous value for money, even for a 2nd hand shoe.

(btw, the quality is great. I mean, it's a shoe. How bad can it get? Receives regular ~3 days a week use of walking, but not for intensive sports; that's what my Vibrams are for! everything you'd expect in a 2nd hand shoe)

strange clicking sound

i have a very weird problem...there's a constant mouse clicking sound whenever I'm on the com, like the sound you get when you click a link on the Internet...does anyone knows what this means?

It isn't an extremely annoying sound, you know, like when you select a link in Youtube, it sounds like that, but it never seems to stop. It goes something like this:

*click*

*click*

...consistently, once every second, on the second. It's a bit like Chinese water torture, if you get the idea.

I've tried turning off browsers, logging off user accounts, and even restarting the computer, but it always still comes back. And I can't really find much self help info on this on the major search engines...so does anyone know what this means? Thanks
