durianhead's workout log

Today, I decided to start a workout log to track my progress (which I should have been doing ages ago but have been procrastinating for years lol).

I recently (this is the 2nd week) switched my workout routine to Layne Norton's Power Hypertrophy Adaptive Training (PHAT). I am currently following it to the dot as I just want to get a feel for it first but I will probably customize the workout to include more exercises that target my weaker muscle groups and remove some exercises that target my stronger muscle groups.

For those of you who are curious and would like to try it out, a full article explaining the theory behind PHAT split can be found here.

The whole purpose of doing this is just to compare myself (in terms of strength and body composition) at the beginning of the PHAT and how it progresses along the way.

On my first week, I went light just to let my body warm up to the training. So not much DOMS were experienced. In fact, I don't expect to experience any DOMS when performing this workout as I've been on a relatively high volume workout prior to this switch.

Without further ado, let the gains begin!

[addedon]5 June 2013[/addedon]
A little background on myself

I've been in the gym since 2008 but I was probably just mocking about (being an 18 year old college kid) and probably took lifting seriously only about mid-end 2012. So I guess you could work out the maths, I'm 23 in 2013. I currently stand at 6 feet tall. I've never taken any HGH, T-boosters, fat burners, or any form of steroids.

Weight at 25/4/2013 = 157lbs / 71.3kg (Just finished a cut, transitioning into a slow bulk to rebuild metabolism)

Supplements I'm currently taking

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

1.
[WTA] Mobo + Casing

A few days ago, I asked for a gaming rig quotation of about RM 2.7k - 3k at here.

And the end result was this:-

QUOTE

Intel Core i5 2400 3.1GHz RM570
Gigabyte HA65M-UD3H-B3 RM299 (Jayacom)
Mushkin 1333 ram 4GB x2 RM124
Gainward GTX 560 Ti RM 690 (lingloong)
Gigabyte Powerrock 500w RM155
WD Caviar Blue 500GB HDD RM245
Dell S2240L RM 400 (Moderno) or LG E2241T 21" RM 400
Aerocool Strike 1 advance RM139 (cycom)
Lite-On 22x DVDRW RM58

Total price of RM 2,680

So I went to LYP and tried to get a quotation for this rig at Jayacom & PC-Zone (preferred PC-Zone's staff who attended me), and they did not agree with my mobo and he recommended me the Asus P8H61-M LX instead. Also I asked about Intel® DH67CL-B3 and the guy did not seem to agree with me once again. Which really confused me.

Also, I saw the Strike 1 advance casing first hand and it looks nice but I saw lingloong selling VS-3 Advanced for RM 145, which looks even nicer.

1. Is there any recognizable difference between VS-3 Advanced and Strike 1 Advance on the inside?

2. Also, was the staff trying to pull my leg? If yes, should I insist on my build? Or perhaps someone could recommend another mobo? Is the P8H67-M LE viable?

I'm actually looking at a ending set of:

QUOTE

Intel Core i5 2400 3.1GHz RM570 [Fixed]
Gigabyte HA65M-UD3H-B3 RM299 (Jayacom) [undecided]
Mushkin 1333 ram 4GB x2 RM124 [Fixed]
Gainward GTX 560 Ti RM 690 (lingloong) [Fixed]
Gigabyte Powerrock 500w RM155 [Fixed]
WD Caviar Blue 500GB HDD RM245 [Fixed]
Dell U2312HM RM 599 (lingloong) or LG IPS236V RM 615 (lingloong) [undecided]
Aerocool Strike 1 advance RM139 (cycom) [undecided]
Lite-On 22x DVDRW RM58 [Fixed]

Total price of roughly RM 2.9k

PS:

3. I am looking to connect my desktop to a home wireless connection. Will I need a wireless adapter? or a wireless card of some sort? If so, how much would it cost? (I am using Unifi)

4. Is it true both monitors do not produce sound on their own? but am I able to connect either one to a pair of external speakers using the standard audio jack?

Sorry for the long post. I am extremely picky about where my money goes to.

What to do with a brand new pc?

Hi everyone,

I am about to buy a new desktop PC so I was wondering what are the procedures that one should undertake upon purchasing a new PC?

Could someone just briefly post a step by step process on what a person should do upon pressing the power button for the first time on their PC? (maybe even recommend a software if there's one involved)

As I've heard some people say you should get rid of the bloatware on the pc using software XXX etc. etc. etc.

I believe this information would be useful for future PC buyers as well .

PS: I'm sorry if this topic has already been posted but I could not find it in LYN forum. Kindly point me in the direction of the link and close this thread if it has already been discussed .

Thank you for your time .

[WTA] Gaming rig RM 2.5-3k

Hi fellow LYN sifus,

Could any of you please recommend me a full gaming rig for 2.5k - 3k (actually aiming for RM 2.7k), including everything except the speakers, mouse and keyboard.

There are 2 purposes for my pc :

i. Gaming ultra settings, at 1080p with an acceptable, maybe 30?, fps (no freezing or stuttering, if not minimal)
I understand this might not be possible for BF3 at my budget hence, maybe use Crysis 2 or Batman: AC as a benchmark? (if still not possible then Battlefield: Bad company 2 )

ii. Watching fullHD movies

Hence, the recommendation must include a FullHD monitor.

A few things I should probably mention:

i. I'm fairly new with all the hardwares in a PC so I might not understand how certain things work
ii. I won't be overclocking any devices simply because I don't know the first thing about it
iii. I have no preference over nvidia or amd
iv. I have no clue on how to assemble my own desktop pc (but I am willing to learn if it's simple enough and also depending on how much cash I'd actually save)

On another side note, is 8gb RAM on a desktop an overkill? I like my rigs relatively fast

Again, I apologise if I sounded ridiculous in any of my demands above. Please correct me on anything you see fit.

Thanks in advance

PS: I'm planning to buy it during April - May.

Edit: After several modifications, this is the final specs that I'm planning to purchase. Thanks to those who recommended and advised me on various parts . Couldn't have done it without you guys.

QUOTE

Intel Core i5 2400 3.1GHz RM570
Gigabyte HA65M-UD3H-B3 RM299 (Jayacom)
Mushkin 1333 ram 4GB x2 RM124
Gainward GTX 560 Ti RM 690 (lingloong)
Gigabyte Powerrock 500w RM155 or Xigmatek NRP 600Watt 80+ Bronze RM260 (Cycom)
WD Caviar Blue 500GB HDD RM245
Dell S2240L RM 400 (Moderno) or LG E2241T 21" RM 400
Aerocool Strike 1 advance RM139 (cycom)
Lite-On 22x DVDRW RM58
