Original Set
- Nokia authorized distributors are Zitron, Avaxx and i-Mobile.
- Sony Ericsson authorized distributors are T-Choice, Grandtech, Midlands and Thorus.
- First Mobile Group (FMG) is the main distributor of Samsung phones.
- FMG is giving 18 months warranty.
- Motorola authorized distributor are Satellite Technics, Zitron and MDM.
- Siemens authorized distributors are Zitron and FMG.
- Panasonic's authorized distributor is Zitron.
- LG's authorized distributor is Zitron.
- u can service your phone at any service centres (Nokia Professional Centre, Sony Ericsson Certified Service Centres...)
- 1 year warranty for the full set including charger, battery, handsfree.
- genuine parts are used for repairing.

AP Set
- Approval Products
- mainly imported from oversea and sell it to the consumers.
- AP set warranty by companies such as Final Choice, CSL, Nefion, Telstra, GTMax...etc
- 1 year warranty for the phone and 1 month for the accessories like charger, battery, handsfree.
- u must bring your phone back to the place u bought the phone for servicing.

Water Set
- Stolen / Brought in / Bought from oversea without paying tax also getting approval from SIRIM. Considered as Illegal. Mostly brought in by student studying oversea.
- Phones can be brought in from oversea by anyone under household personal effect, which means they aer not for commercial purpose. But when they are brought in under that effect, but ended up for commercial purpose, then the phone is considered illegal to be sold, known as "waterset".

Identify Original and AP Set
- take out the phone case and battery.
- original set comes with authorized company sticker (Zitron, Avaxx, T-Choice, Midland...)
- AP set comes with AP company sticker (Final Choice...)
- press *#06# to check the phone 15 digit serial number (IMEI).
- compare it with the IMEI written on phone sticker (back of phone case) and package box sticker.
- for original set, these serial numbers are the same.

Touch Technology in S60

You might remember that a couple of months back we mentioned and showed Nokia's plan for a touch based phone. Well we have more info. This regards Nokia's defacto operating system the Symbian S60 and its developments and addition for 2008.

One of this new additions would be the touch user interface in S60 smartphone software offers licensees the opportunity to develop devices with a variety of input methods, whether it is a touch screen with a traditional keypad, touch screen with a qwerty keyboard or touch screen alone, supporting both finger or stylus optimized input, in addition to the range of access options that already exist today. S60 touch user interface comes with support for tactile feedback, which means that there is a physical pulse and feedback when the user taps on the screen.

Existing S60 3rd Edition applications will run on touch enabled devices unmodified. Tools will be made available for developers to further optimize the touch experience of their applications. S60 brings sensor support to the platform as a generic solution enabling support for a range of sensors in S60 devices. Check out this video that Nokia showed us on the potentials of their Touch UI.

Also, the new UI Accelerator toolkit will allow device manufacturers to develop rapidly and easily impressive graphical effects and new types of interactions, further increasing the user appeal and excitement. S60 will be the first mobile software platform to deliver the complete Web video experience as Flash Video will be integrated with the Web Browser for S60. This allows people to view on the go Flash-enabled Web sites and Flash Video as they would do on their desktops.

These technologies will be available for all S60 device manufacturers during 2008. Although a specific date was never mentioned, we were made to understands that we were assured that in 2008 we will be seeing the first batch of touch based Nokia phones, most likely in ther N-series line to hit the market though be it in the first half or second half of the year was not made clear.

What is Firmware?

Firmware is the coded instruction and Operating System, OS (e.g. Symbian, Windows Mobile, Proprietary OS) in the phone. Simply said,

What is Firmware Flashing?

Flashing is the process of replacing a cell phone's firmware, usually to replace the original firmware with updated or custom firmware. Flashing is accomplished by connecting a phone to a computer using a data cable and copying new software from the computer onto the phone.

Customization is changing or replacing original content of the phone, like ringtones, wallpapers, icons, themes, that come with branded or unbranded phones. It also includes removing text message storage limit, mute camera shutter sound etc.

Branded Phones = Some network providers place their own ringtones, themes, icons, links etc within phone's software. (eg. vodafone/telenor, orange, t-mobile, rogers, cingular etc.) Debranding means removing all this content and restoring phone to it's original factory/generic condition. This will not damage phone in any way!
