Quit if you can't get Sulu invaders out, Hisham told - Malaysiakini

Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng has criticised the Home Ministry for its delay in resolving the "invasion" of Lahad Datu, Sabah, by an army linked to the Sulu sultan.

Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussein's latest remark that the invaders are "neither militants nor terrorists" was unacceptable, Lim said.

"If this is so, then why are they in (a village near) Lahad Datu (and) heavily armed?

"If this had happened in Penang, I - as chief minister - would have asked for security assistance from the federal government to drive out or arrest the armed group."

The group allegedly comprises some 100 followers of a sultan in the Philippines, who has claimed that Sabah was "leased" out to the Malaysian government.

Sultan Jamalul Kiram (left) was quoted in an AFP report as saying that his men will remain in Sabah as it is their "home".

Although Malaysian officials have claimed that the group is armed, Jamalul insisted that they are not.

Despite the group's refusal to leave since their arrival on Feb 9, Malaysia has not been firm in its handling of the situation, Lim said.

"If Hishammuddin can't handle the situation immediately and send the armed group out of the country, he should resign," he added.

"The government deported Australian Senator Nick Xenophon, who was unarmed. Here we have an armed group and nothing has been done so far."

Hishammuddin, who is currently in Sabah, has reportedly said that Malaysia is doing everything possible to ensure that stand-off is settled without bloodshed.[SIZE=7]

I deeply regret for causing Liu severe distress as a result of the publication of the said article and hereby retract all statements made against him and apologise unconditionally," said Khir.

Gobind Singh Deo, who appeared for Liu, announced the settlement and applied for no order as to costs, to which Justice Nik Hasmat assented.

After the statement was read and after the court proceedings, Khir shook hands with Liu.

I betul2 kesian sama bumi/meleis original. Why always your rights get confiscated by some hybrid....haiz.
Hope you will wake up soon, and demand that only original shall enjoy the special rights awarded to your comunity, which is agreed by majority of Malaysian.

http://www.malaysiakini.com/news/204595

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Two Penang Umno leaders accused of selling a plot of land belonging to Malay villagers in Balik Pulau have denied claims that they profited on the land by millions of ringgit in just four months.

Umno Bukit Gelugor division chief Omar Faudzar showed reporters two sale and purchase agreements to back his claim that his company - Mason Heights Sdn Bhd - did not sell the land it purchased within the alleged period.

"We purchased the land on Oct 2, 2010, and sold it in January this year. To say it was sold within four months of its purchase is the biggest lie," Omar (right) said.

He made the announcement at a press conference today, accompanied by his partner in the company and the other person accused, state Umno deputy chief Musa Sheikh Fadzir.

"Both documents are stamped and cannot be fabricated," Omar added, threatening to initiate legal action against PKR Balik Pulau division chief Abdul Halim Hussain should he repeat the claim.

Omar said he was not a broker but a developer since the 1980s and that he had bought the land for development.

His was a private company, not a government or a government-linked company, he said, adding that Abdul Halim, who is also Penang legislative speaker, had embarrassed him and his family.

'Company blacklisted'

On whether he was seeking an apology from Abdul Halim, Omar said "No", but if the Abdul Halim were to repeat his allegations, "I will 100 percent sue him for defamation".

He also said that if the company had developed the land, it would have profited a lot more than RM5 million - the profit the duo is alleged to have made from of the sale of the land.

However, Omar said, Mason Heights - a sister company of developer Aseania - had been ‘blacklisted' and that he and Musa had no choice but to sell the land.

On a related matter, Musa continued to accuse Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng of being "the fathers of brokers" for selling land belonging to Penangites in Bayan Mutiara and Taman Manggis.

Musa, who is also Bukit Mertajam Umno chief, said Lim aimed to "cover up his weaknesses" by trying to destroy Umno.

"Lim seems to target only bumiputera companies. Other developers are also doing the same (selling land) but he does not mention others," Musa said, adding that Lim was a racist for doing so.

He challenged Abdul Halim (right) to show evidence that he and Omar had sold the Malay land in Balik Pulau within four months, saying Abdul Halim is merely Lim's "puppet".

Lim had yesterday urged Umno president and Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak to order Omar and Musa to return the profits from the land-sale to the people.

Only time will tell, but over the years we have seen how high profile case related to BN friendly politician silently slip under the radar.

By Fazy Sahir

FULL REPORT PUTRAJAYA: Former transport minister and MCA president Dr Ling Liong Sik has been charged in connection with the Port Klang Free Zone (PKFZ) scandal.

The 67-year-old medical doctor-turned-politician arrived at the Kajang Sessions Court, located here, at 4.45pm and appeared calm when swarmed by press photographers.

Clad in a striped shirt, he was accompanied by his wife Ena and two sons.

He pleaded not guilty to two charges under Sections 417 and 418 of the Penal Code for cheating. If found guilty, Ling could face a jail term.

Sessions Court Judge Suzana Hussin then set bail at RM1 million and mention was fixed for Sept 3.

Ling, who requested time to post bail, was released on a personal bond. The former MCA president, who is being represented by counsel RR Sethu, would pay the amount at the Sessions Court tomorrow.

Asked if he was confident in fighting the case, he replied, "In the Palace of Justice you must feel confident."

Ling was charged under Section 418 for allegedly "misleading the Cabinet between Sept 25 and Nov 6, 2002 into agreeing to purchase 999.5 acres of land on Pulau Indah for a project that is now known as PKFZ, at a price of RM25psf on a deferred payment method for a 15-year period, at an interest rate of 7.5 percent". The cumulative interest paid would total RM720 million at the end of the repayment period.

He was also charged under Section 417 for the same offence.

'Accused withheld information'

According to the charge sheet, the Finance Ministry had already valued the land at RM25psf inclusive of compounded interest -- and this fact was withheld by the accused from the Cabinet.

Earlier, Attorney-General Abdul Gani Patail and three DPPs, including head of prosecution Tun Abdul Majid Hamzah, arrived at the court around 4pm but declined to speak to the scores of journalists camping there since morning after getting wind that a VIP would be charged.

Ling, a long-time Cabinet minister, was also a close associate of former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

He was elected MP for the Mata Kuching constituency in 1974. He successfully defended his position in 1978 and 1982. In 1986, he was elected as the MP for Labis and defended his seat in three subsequent general elections. The sixth MCA president helmed the party for 17 years until his retirement in 2003.

In 1986, he was appointed transport minister. Prior to that, he had held the position of parliamentary secretary to the Ministry of Local Government and Federal Territory, deputy information minister, deputy finance minister and deputy education minister.

Ling is the biggest name to be hauled up over the RM4.6 billion PKFZ scandal thus far.

The PKFZ project, a brainchild of the MCA-nominee headed Port Klang Authority, was initiated by Ling when he was the transport minister in 1999.

Late last year, former PKA general manager OC Phang and three others were charged with criminal breach of trust (CBT) and cheating by making false claims.

The PKFZ is located on a 405-hectare site in Pulau Indah near West Port, Port Klang. It comprises 256 hectares of open space for factories/warehouses, 512 light industrial lots and 500,000 sq ft of office space for rent, a 135-room hotel and an exhibition centre.

The Public Accounts Committee had investigated the project and had recommended that the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission and police investigate former transport minister Chan Kong Choy and Phang for CBT.

Both Ling and Chan are accused of having played a role in the ballooning cost of the project, including giving out letters of support to help finance the project.

Business and politics

Ling's tenure as the MCA president was also riddled with trouble following a leadership tussle involving his then deputy Lim Ah Lek. Supporters of the two are still fighting it out to take control of the party.

His political life was also tainted with accusations that he had used his position and connections, especially through his protege Soh Chee Wen, to help his son Hee Leong in the corporate world.

Hee Leong was said to have embarked on corporate acquisitions exceeding RM1.2 billion in a matter of months at the age of 27, with the help of his father and Soh.

Subsequent investigations against Ling was dropped as he was said to have the protection of Mahathir at that time.

However, Soh was made to pay the price for the corporate raids, resulting in a fallout between Ling and the former.

Political pundits at that time speculated that Soh was targeted as he was seen to be close to Mahathir's foe Anwar Ibrahim.

Soh, in an interview with Malaysiakini in 2002, said that he was asked by Ling for protection against the ACA (Anti-Corruption Agency) investigations.

"He asked me to assist him in not implicating him in the ACA investigations and to omit stating both Ling and his wife's roles and the benefits derived by them from the previous deals... in hindsight, I regret my doing so," he had said in the interview.
