Dark patches on laptop LCD

Hi everyone,

My Vaio F-series LCD just started showing some dark areas which I cannot explain! It started a few weeks ago with a very obvious dark N-shape area, then I roll-back my graphics driver and it was gone. After a few days, it came back again but at different areas and patterns. The pattern has been the same since then. I tried to use the original factory driver but it didn't help. Looks like LCD backlight bleeding, but in the middle of the screen? And if it is bleeding, then how come the driver roll-back worked the first time?

Any one experienced similar things and/or have any advice? Might take it to a laptop specialist nearby, warranty is void (sort of, I'm overseas).

There is a horizontal dark patch at the bottom right, and 2 patches at the top right. My camera can't capture it perfectly, but I hope you can see it in the pictures.

It looks like a small problem but it's very annoying when I am reading for long periods of time.

Thanks in advance.
What is this lump behind my ear?

Hi all,

Please take a look at the attached picture and if you have had a similar lump before, or if you know what it is please tell me! I already have a doctor's appointment for next Monday but am a little worried. I noticed it about a week ago when I felt a slight discomfort behind my ear, and then the lump became bigger and redder. It is no longer sore, but I am not sure it is getting any smaller.

[attachmentid=1855165]

Sorry if you find it disgusting lol.

Thanks.

PSU too low for my 8600gts?

Hi all,

I have a Thermaltake XP480 and a Winfast PX8600GTS TDH 256mb DDR3 graphics card.

I've always felt that the graphics is really bad, and just today I realised that I need a 450W PSU for this?? Is this true? Is this why my graphics are so crappy?

Crappy graphics as in all low/off settings in Mass Effect, linear filtering, and on 1280x768 (or something) and I still get only 30 fps max.

Please help!

Edit: Updated! Please read my post below, planning to get a new card!

P-license expired for many months

Hi guys,

My P-driver's license expired in Jan 2008. I have been overseas all along and didnt do anything about it. Recently, I mailed it back to my parents to see if anything can be done. They haven't received it, and I'm getting a bit worried about NOT being able to get my CPL (complete license) coz it has expired for way too long. Can someone pls tell me about what ppl usually do in these cases? Thanks!

Extremely unstable cable connection

Hi,

I'm not currently in Malaysia but long story short, i have an 'cable' connection from my isp in my apartment building. My plan is 1mbits download, and 'unlimited' upload bandwidth. Things were all fine until a few weeks back where my connection became really screwed up. I get insane packet loss at almost all times of the day, around about 50-100% loss. Ping spikes in games, and extremely slow browsing especially with overseas websites.

Turns out many people were having the same problem. So the isp carried out an 'upgrade' on their hardware to fix it, and according to the technician (whom i dont trust), nobody is complaining anymore. However i still have loss, high ping and my d/l bandwidth is now 56k while my u/l is as it should be. This is really weird! I asked the technician about it and he said it has to be a problem on my side, my hardware etc. But i just don't see how that can be. He says scan my computer for spyware and viruses but those suggestions really annoy me because i have already done them.

An ethernet cable connects my pc to a ethernet port on the wall which leads to their router. My suspect is outdated firmware on their side, although blatantly denied (probably unfounded) by the technician. Any idea what may be wrong and what i can do?

Attached is a speedtest, a screenshot from cs to show the lag i'm experiencing, and my connection details.

[attachmentid=480337]
[attachmentid=480338]
[attachmentid=480339]

Graphic Card performance scaled down

Hi,

I recently installed a 7900gtx but at first i forgot to plug in the extra power cables to the back of the card. When i started windows, a window came up, saying the card doesnt have enugh power, so the system is scaling down it's performance. Then i turned it off, and connected the 2 extra power cables, turned it back on. The core clock should be at 675mhz, but rivatuner says it is as 275mhz. How do i get it to be at 675 by default? I tried reinstalling drivers, didnt work.

Also, everytime i close a game, the screen returns to desktop, and starts blinking. it goes black for 2-3 seconds, then back to normal, then repeating blinking until i force restart the thing. Need some help. thanks.

Solving vectors - problem

Hi. I have attached a sample problem. Can someone please tell me how to do question a(ii) and b(ii) ? I have been trying for several hours, its so frustrating! I must have gotten something very basic wrong. The answer for a(ii) is 0.0523 kHz. answer for b(ii) is 861.0 Hz. More importantly, how do you solve the speed component of the van along AC?

[attachmentid=143118]

This is how i attempted a(ii) : I tried to find the component for velocity of the ambulance to C.

AC = (21.1 m s-1) / cos 43 .

then using that, substitute into

f'= f [ (V.sound) / (V.sound - AC) ]
then Delta f = f' - f

obviously, i got it wrong, and cant figure out where i went wrong, probably at the trigonometry. anyone can help?

btw, this isnt my homework but will probably affect my exam anyway. thanks.

Private diary/journal

Hi. I discovered recently that quite a substantial number of people, boys and girls alike, have their own diaries/journal that they write personal and private entries into everyday. Most of them do it at night, right before sleep and aren't comfortable with people reading their work or commenting on it. It came as quite a suprise to me. It might be a habit from childhood. But recently i've read research suggesting that these personal diaries are actually beneficial for mental health and can improve sleep and disorders relating to stress. A way of expressing one's inner feelings and reflection upon one's character.

I've always enjoyed writing, but i never tried this form of writing. Ever since my academic curriculum didnt involve any regular writing, the only thing i do with a pen and paper is make bullet notes, so i can't really relate.

What do you think about this? More importantly, do you do it?

p/s i cant seem to add a poll =/
