i used the search function and couldn't find a thread about good books. I think we need a thread just to share the wealth of knowledge. As we all know books are expensive in our country and to buy them all is almost impossible to your average malaysian. So why not list the good books here and maybe do a littel review. That way the people in this forum will know which book to read and what to avoid

let me start with a book i purchased just over 8 months ago and now rereading it for the 3rd time. Its really that good

This book is a really good jumping point for those interested in learning the major branches of science. Physics, chemistry , astro physics, geology and biology are well represented in this book. it chronicled the human journey to learn about his surrounding. the story are interesting, hilarious, tragic and can make you go " wow..... that is just AWESOME!".

for instance from this book we can learn that Newton's important Principia would not have been written if a fellow scientist didnt bothered Newton with a little calculation he was having troubel with. From that one ANNOYING question newton ends up writing the 3 volumes of principia. it is also interesting to read that newton was famous for his laziness to write. see even geniuses have faults in their character!

i strongly recommend this book to all science fans. its chock full of cool trivias and i end up reading about all the characters in the book in WIKI. so i end up knowing more and discovering people i never knew existed but contributed alot to science

you can find it in Boreders and MPH for 39.90...... it will be one of the best book in your collection ever!

On my MYKAD it says lain-lain. i am really insulted by the lain-lain tag on theMYKAD. is there a thread for mixed blood fools like me here? need to find fellow non pure blood to mingle and discuss this thorny issue.

Migrating Issues

i am thinking of migrating from Blogger to my own host. thing is i fiddled with the XML file and migrate to wordpress just to test it. i realised that it only migrate the blog content and not the thousands of comment left at my blog.

is there a way to migrate all teh comments too. the comments are really nice and its a shame i cannot migrate it too at the moment.

i cant help but thinking about the AIRTAXI. i am not sure if you seen the picture but yeh whole aircraft design looked aerodynamically unstable. the bdoy was bulbous and the wing is set up high. the rudder will be taking alot of turbulance resulting in it being not that effective for manouvers. i took some fluid mech once and i tested a few fuselage design back in the days.

also

do you think we will actually ever be ready for an aero taxi. dont you think the cost will be prohibitive? plus post 911 do you think the people at the DCA will let these tiny jet planes zoom around in towns? i think the idea while novel is a bit foolhardy.

what do you guys think?

is the airplane design sound?
is there really a market for such taxi services?

it's a start eh? when i was a wee lad i remember watching Beyond 2000 and they say we will be colonising the moon by 2010.. yeah right! they cant even secure funding for the ISS... but anyway glad to see they are at least trying to make my childhood space dream a reality!

For a while now, NASA has been planning to use a nuclear fission reactor to power future bases on the Moon and Mars. They have now finally begun testing a Stirling engine-based system, subjecting it to simulated extraterrestrial conditions to examine how it would fare as a lunar power generator.

The fission reactor uses a sodium-potassium liquid metal mixture to transfer heat to a Stirling engine, which then uses gas pressure for electricity conversion. Testing has been successful so far, as researchers have been able to generate a constant 2.3 kilowatts of power from the engine, using a non-nuclear heat source. With the full nuclear reactor running, their goal is to produce 40 kilowatts of power.

To simulate real space conditions, NASA has tested the motor in conditions of high radiation (20 times greater than normal), to make sure the parts don't break down when exposed to nuclear materials. They've also tested the lightweight radiator panel in a vacuum chamber to make sure it can handle the lack of atmosphere on the moon, as well as the extreme temperatures of +/-100 degrees Celsius. They also bombarded the thing with dust, to make sure it can handle the physical lunar environment.

In all tests, the parts performed better than expected, and researchers believe these systems can last upwards of 8 years without maintenance. Now if NASA can just get over their apparent lack of budget for manned missions to the Moon and Mars.

Robert Rodriguez, the director of "Desperado," "Sin City" and the "Spy Kids" trilogy, has begun work on "Machete," which began as a preview that ran before his "Planet Terror" segment of the double-feature he made with Quentin Tarantino.

For the full-length movie, Rodriguez has assembled one of the most eclectic casts ever: Robert De Niro, Jessica Alba, Steven Seagal, Michelle Rodriguez, Don Johnson and Lindsay Lohan. They will join the stars of the original trailer: Danny Trejo, Jeff Fahey and Cheech Marin.

In the movie, Machete (Trejo), a former Mexican Federales, is hired to assassinate a corrupt senator (De Niro). But then he is double-crossed and pursued by a government agent (Alba). Lohan plays a gun-wielding socialite who comes to Machete's aid, and Seagal plays a drug lord from his past. Filming has already begun in Austin, TX, and it will most likely hit theaters next year.

Tong Liangliang was taught how to light up by his father, who believed the habit would alleviate pain caused by a hernia.
