just now, when i'm happily spaming /k/,... my opposite neighbor call me,...

Me: hey... wassup?

Op Neighbor: hey.. u know phone number for ambulance,.. ur next door neighbor (old man) fell down and can't get up,.. i think fainted...

Me: what?... just call 999 !!

i quickly get my car keys and grap my trouser and go next door to see what happen (thinking of driving him hospital but my mum follow me out telling me not to bz body)... when reach there, i saw the old man lying on the floor,.. eye close facing ceiling,... face blue,... mouth bubbling,...

he's head got pillow under it,.. crowd of neighbors is trying to help,.. but no1 go near him,... i quickly check his wrist pulse,.. no pulse,... i double check pulse check on neck,.. also no pulse... check breathing,... no breath... feel his chest for heart beat,.. not beating,... (my mum keep stoping me do this),.. i quickly press his chest rhythmically to try to pump his heart,...

i wanna blow air into his mouth,.. but when i see the bubble in the mouth.... yuck,... quickly i ask the aunty for cloth to wipe his mouth,... and while all one neighbor already get to talk to 999,.. they already sending ambulance,.. and teaching the aunty cpr, but the aunty kenot understand... so i ask for the phone ...... tell the operator my diagnosis,.. the operator tell me:

1)the operator tell me to remove the pillow and lower his head...

2)put one hand on his forehead, one under his neck,..

3)then hear his breathing,...

no breathing...

then the operator instruct me to pump his heart until the ambulance come... so i keep pumping,..

ohh.. God.. He's dead,.. shud i be the one to announce the news to the aunty standing there crying?..... nah.... bad idea.... i keep pump his heart,...

when my mum got out of the area,.. i quickly open his mouth and trying to blow,... it stuck,.. i try to dig anything block but can't find anything,... i try blow few more times but unsuccessful,... so i keep pump his heart,..

30 minutes later,.. anbulance came,.. they bring "the shocking ur heart thingy" but they announce the old man death b4 they can use it...

Question: if i earlier check his air valve block,.. might he be alive ???

i like to know,... on average, how much mobile data u guys had use for every month ?

Problem with GPS Galaxy ACE

i'm using galaxy ace with CM 7.2,.. been using the GPS for months,.. quite quick to get satellite fix (i'm using GPS status to moniter numbers of satellite)... it works like charm ...

but recently getting satellite fix is like taking forever,... i view with GPS status but only 2-3 satellites with no fix,.. sometimes no satellites,.. sometimes with 8-10 satellites also can't fix,..

been working 2 days but still can't get GPS location...below is what i had done..

i'm so angry at myself....

just now go berak, while playing game on my android with wired headphone on,... when finish my business,.. i turn off my phone and put it on the toilet water tank...and proceed squatting down to wash my backside.... i forgot to take off my headphone,... the wire pull the phone off the tank and directly drop into the toilet bowl,... and i haven't flush....

panicly pick it up with bare hand with shit on it,... panicly flush with running water,... panicly turn on the phone...

the screen boot up with Samsung logo,... and then the screen get wobbly and turn off....

quickly take off the cover and battery,... dry it with towel,.. and briefly blow with hair dryer..... then let it be in front of a fan....

try put on again....kenot power on liao...

quickly search google for advice....

currently put the phone in rice...

Possible civil suits against police, says Bar Council

KUALA LUMPUR, May 1 — Civil suits might be filed against the police on behalf of Bersih supporters who were physically injured during last Saturday’s rally, the Bar Council has said.

Bar Council president Lim Chee Wee told reporters today that he was in the process of gathering volunteer lawyers to file the suits on behalf of those who had allegedly been roughed up by authorities.

“We will talk to our members, to see whether or not we can gather enough members of the Bar to volunteer to interview all the victims of human rights violations and probably pursue civil suits,” said Lim.

He said this will be done “as soon as possible” but did not specify a timeframe.

The lawyer, however, said that the Bar’s first option would be to discuss its concerns with Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Ismail Omar.

“We would like to engage the police. It is good that the IGP does not shut the door to engagement.

“The time has come for police to have proper guidelines... this cannot continue,” Lim added.

The Bar Council will also push for the Malaysian Human Rights Commission (Suhakam) to conduct a “comprehensive” inquiry into alleged human rights’ violations which took place during the Bersih rally, said Lim.

Chaos reigned on the streets of Kuala Lumpur for over four hours after 3pm last Saturday when police fired tear gas and water cannons and chased protesters down the streets of the capital to disperse what had initially started out as a peaceful protest calling for free and fair elections.

The melee was believed to have begun after overzealous protesters either mistakenly or deliberately breached the three-ringed barricades — razor-wire fences, plastic blockades and metal gates — that were placed around Dataran Merdeka.

According to Bersih 3.0 and opposition party leaders, the barriers were breached after the rally was called to a close and declared a success but it is believed that the message was lost among the sheer thousands who turned up for the event, the third to be held since 2007.

The ensuing violence has pitted both Bersih supporters and the government in a blame game.

Scores of civilians, policemen and even journalists were hurt when the protest took an ugly twist with demonstrators refusing to back down and even raining missiles upon their armed pursuers.

The cat-and-mouse game went on for hours and many protesters were seen allegedly roughed up by the police but in his immediate response, Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein insisted that the police had acted with restraint.

International media organisations have already predicted that the force used by the police may have a negative backlash on the Najib administration, adding that polls may have to be delayed past their expected June date if the government is keen on recapturing lost votes.

While village elections have been permitted for decades, Wukan has pushed the boundaries, led by a visionary rebel village leader turned party secretary and a vanguard of young activists able to unify the village against higher authorities.

The Wukan experience has proved a beacon for civil rights activists, academics and journalists, who have flocked to the village to observe the polls.

"Wukan is an example for us," said Hua Youjuan, a village chief from Huangshan in eastern China, where villagers have also rallied against corruption.

"What Wukan has achieved through its solidarity is something we can learn from."

Behind-the-scenes influence
In a sign of growing international interest, the U.S. government sent an observer to the poll. "We continue to monitor developments in Wukan closely," a U.S. diplomat who asked not to be identified said.

The polls follow a months-long struggle that saw villagers clash with riot police, ransack government offices, expel a corrupt old guard and form a self-administrative authority. It all came to a head in December, when villagers barricaded themselves in against riot police.

Guangdong provincial authorities, led by ambitious Communist Party leader Wang Yang, intervened, naming the rebel leader Lin as party secretary in a surprising concession.

Behind the scenes, authorities at the city and county level have been exerting a high degree of control. Some fear clans and allies of former village chief Xue Chang, whom many accuse of pocketing millions from selling off collective farmland, are vying to maintain influence.

Journalist beatings erase Wukan optimism

Xue Jianwan, the daughter of Xue Jinbo, a protest leader who was abducted and died in police detention in December, said senior local officials recently urged her to drop from running as a candidate for the village committee.

She said taking part in the election might mean she could no longer continue in her job as a teacher given electoral rules.

"The more they don't want me to take part, the more I want to," said Xue in an interview before election day.

Other young leaders, who played a key role in publicising corruption that saw hundreds of hectares of Wukan farmland sold off in illegal deals, have spoken of extensive surveillance, police pressure and fears of reprisals.

In February, Wukan elected an election committee to oversee Saturday's proceedings. Now the stakes are higher.

The seven-member village committee, including a village chief and two deputies, will have power over local finances and the sale and apportioning of collectively owned village land.

Residents hope the frequent practice of higher officials controlling lucrative land deals will become a thing of the past.

BRATISLAVA, Slovakia, Feb 24 — Slovaks have been voting overwhelmingly in favour of naming a new pedestrian and cycling bridge near their capital for 1980s action film and TV star Chuck Norris.

The two other top names in the running for the bridge, which will span the Morava river and cross the border to Austria, were Maria Theresa after an Austro-Hungarian empress and the Devinska cycling bridge in honour of the closest village.

Norris (picture), a martial arts expert-turned film star, is known for playing tough guy characters in such classic movies as “Lone Wolf McQuade,” “Missing in Action” and “The Delta Force.”

The actor’s work has become a popular source of kitschy fun among Slovaks and a mainstay for local jokes about macho strength and invincibility.

The final decision will be up to a regional assembly. But regional Governor Pavol Freso has said it would follow the wishes of the people in the Internet ballot where Norris leads as the top choice for the bridge’s name.

“The same way as we have so far been building it in full sight of the public, we will seek that the name is accepted by the public as well,” he said.

Daniel Peter (1836 - 1919) was responsible for another development which had a far-reaching impact on chocolate making everywhere. In 1875, after many years of experimentation and research, Peter found a way to make milk chocolate. He was not the first to try, but all attempts to use normal milk had failed because its high water content meant it was unable to combine satisfactorily with the cocoa paste and the chocolate soon turned rancid.

Peter's breakthrough came when he combined cocoa with the condensed milk invented by Henri Nestlé seven years earlier. Milk chocolate for drinking appeared in 1875, followed by eating chocolate in the 1880s. The addition of milk took away the bitter taste of the chocolate and was a great success. Even today, milk chocolate accounts for over 80% of the Swiss market, although dark chocolate is making a come-back.

The addition of milk enabled manufacturers to cut down on the proportion of expensive cocoa in their products. The invention also gave a boost to thousands of farmers, as it greatly increased the demand for milk.

Peter, the son of a butcher, had not started out as a chocolate maker. He first tried his hand at making candles, but the invention of kerosene lamps completely undermined the industry. He became interested in chocolate after he met Fanny Cailler, the eldest daughter of François-Louis Cailler, whom he subsequently married. Nicotine could ward off memory loss, says study

WASHINGTON, Jan 11 — Older adults who are starting to have problems with memory may benefit from small amounts of nicotine therapy, according to a US study published on Monday.

The research in Neurology, the medical journal of the American Academy of Neurology, included 74 non-smokers with an average age of 76. Half were given a daily nicotine patch for six months, the other half wore a placebo patch.

Those on nicotine therapy showed better results on cognitive tests for attention, memory, as well as how fast and consistently they could process information.

After six months on the patch, the nicotine group “regained 46 per cent of normal performance for age on long-term memory, whereas the placebo group worsened by 26 per cent over the same time period,” said the study.

However, the study authors cautioned that older adults should not begin to smoke cigarettes to help their brain function, and said more research is needed to see if the positive effects endure over a long period of time.

Also, nicotine is not likely to help people whose memory already works well, said study author Paul Newhouse, director of the Center for Cognitive Medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Centre.

“If you’re already functioning fine, but slip down the hill, nicotine will push you back up toward the top. A little bit of the drug makes poor performers better,” he said.

“Too much, and it makes them worse again, so there’s a range. The key issue is to find the sweet spot where it helps.”

The study was funded by the National Institute on Aging, and received no money from pharmaceutical companies, Newhouse said. Nicotrol 15 mg patches were donated for the study by Pfizer.

The link between nicotine and memory was first shown in the 1980s. Nicotine stimulates receptors in the brain that are important for thinking and memory. People with Alzheimer’s disease tend to lose some of those receptors.

Jeremy Koppel, a geriatric psychiatrist at Zucker Hillside Hospital in Glen Oaks, New York, who was not involved in the study, said more research is needed to gauge the true nature of nicotine’s potential benefit.

“While this small study did find that patients treated with transdermal nicotine performed better on tests of attention, and some tests of memory, there was no evidence of global improvement in the group treated with nicotine,” Koppel said.

“Further, this study does not provide evidence that nicotine can reverse or slow the progression from MCI (mild cognitive impairment) to Alzheimer’s disease.”

Newhouse said he hopes to next examine how nicotine therapy might change the curve of cognitive decline over time.

“I don’t think it’s going to become a treatment for Alzheimer’s disease by itself. That would be like trying to rebuild a house after a fire when the fire’s still going,” he said.

“You need to prevent the fire. The holy grail would be changing the deterioration curve.”

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 15 – Frustrated by rural Malays’ poor access to alternative sources of news, an anti-Umno coalition has launched an online video it hopes will break Barisan Nasional’s (BN) media monopoly in key heartland areas.

Jumping between archive photos and documentary footage, the 104-minute “DN Tumbangkan BN” video by Asalkan Bukan Umno (ABU) hopes to undercut Umno’s claim that it has always fought for Malaysians and the good of the country.

ABU comprises the Socialist Party of Malaysia (PSM), Parti Rakyat Malaysia (PRM), Solidariti Anak Muda Malaysia (SAMM) and the Malaysian Civil Liberties Movement (MCLM), among others.

The central theme of the video is former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s alleged abuse of the New Economic Policy (NEP) to enrich cronies, which ABU claims not only resulted in persistent poverty but also worsening race relations.

The NEP was introduced in 1971 following the bloody May 13, 1969 race riots to foster national unity by reducing the wealth gap between the races.

“Had the aspirations of the New Economic Policy been carried out, Tunku Abdul Rahman’s hope that Malaysia remain a democratic, independent nation based on freedom and justice... would have been realised long ago,” said the video’s narrator.

“Unfortunately, the Umno-BN government, beginning with the leadership of Dr Mahathir Mohamad from 1981 until now, has abandoned the principles of the Rukunegara and played up racial and religious sentiment to ensure the people are not united so they can remain in power.”

It also slammed Dr Mahathir – “the world’s biggest liar” – for allegedly undermining key national institutions to stay in power, presenting as proof the chain of events which began with the deregistration of Umno in 1988 following fractious party polls.

But the video also struck a more positive note amid the Umno-bashing, highlighting the alternative vision for Malaysia held by leftist political parties which fought for Malaysia’s independence from Britain in the 1940s and 1950s.

It noted that such groups, including the Malay Nationalist Party (PKMM) and Malayan Democratic Union (MDU), had worked together politically for a race-blind Malaysia even before BN’s predecessor, the Alliance, was formed.

“The unity we talked about never mentioned race, as is emphasised nowadays. All we wanted was that all the trade unions, all the workers, all the women, all the organisations should join in a broad front to oppose the return of the (British) Governor to rule the country,” MDU founding member Lim Kean Chye said.

Special attention was paid to the All-Malaya Hartal of 1948, which MCLM president Haris Ibrahim described as “the most graphic evidence” that Malaysians of different races have always been able to cooperate.

“It’s amazing that they managed, even then without internet, to pull off something on that scale. We’ve never had a race relations problem in this country. It’s just Umno and its sidekicks,” he told The Malaysian Insider.

ABU will kick off its campaign to disseminate the video among rural Malay voters at Kolej Universiti Islam Zulkifli Muhammad (KUIZM) in Gombak tonight.

According to Haris’s website, the group has already distributed some 200,000 hard copies of the video in villages in the past month alone.

Ujian makmal ke atas sos cili yang dijual di Kedai Rakyat 1Malaysia (KR1M) mendapati tahap raksa dan plumbum melebihi paras yang dibenarkan dalam Akta Peraturan-peraturan Makanan 1985.

Dalam laporan draf penyelidikan perbandingan produk yang diperolehi oleh Malaysiakini, Persatuan Pengguna-Pengguna Standard Malaysia (Standards Users) mendapati 3.64ppm plumbum dan 0.08ppm raksa atau merkuri dalam sos cili 1Malaysia.

Sedangkan, tahap yang dibenarkan untuk sos cili adalah 2ppm bagi plumbun manakala 0.05ppm untuk raksa.

Laporan itu membandingkan sos cili jenama 1Malaysia dengan tiga jenama lain, iaitu Tesco Value, Life dan Lingham. Semua jenama berkenaan didapati mematuhi had yang ditetapkan, malah kadar mereka juga jauh lebih rendah daripada yang dibenarkan oleh undang-undang.

Ujian bagi produk berkenaan dijalankan oleh Unipeq Sdn Bhd, sebuah syarikat yang ditauliahkan di bawah Skim Akreditasi Makmal Malaysia (SAMM) oleh Jabatan Standard Malaysia.

Ketika dihubungi, ketua pegawai eksekutif, Standard Users, DN Ratna berkata, organisasinya telah menjalankan penyelidikan seumpama itu selama lebih tiga tahun dan memutuskan untuk memasukkan produk 1Malaysia dalam kajian kerana pengguna sedang digalakkan membeli produk itu.

Katanya, sampel sos cili berkenaan diperolehi dari kedai-kedai runcit dan pasar raya besar di sekitar Lembah Klang antara bulan Ogos dan September lalu.

Mengulas keputusan kajian itu, Ratna menggesa Kementerian Kesihatan untuk segera menghentikan jualan sos cili 1Malaysia.

"Kesan logam berat itu boleh menyebabkan keracunan. Jika seseorang menggunakan jenama itu bagi jangkamasa yang lama, logam itu akan terkumpul di rambut, tisu dan bahagian-bahagian badan yang lain ... Jika mereka orang yang terdedah itu tidak sihat, maka kesannya lebih cepat dan nyata.

"Ini berkaitan logam berat, mereka (Kementerian Kesihatan) sepatutnya tidak membenarkan jualan produk itu sehingga mereka sahkannya dengan ujian sendiri dan mengambil tindakan lanjut," katanya.

Menurut laporan itu, raksa yang berlebihan boleh menyebabkan kerosakan kepada sistem saraf pusat tunjang serta sistem endokrin, yang berpotensi membawa kepada kerosakan buah pinggang.

i'm caring for my elderly father,.. he got a stroke few years ago, now he's developing severe dementia,...

at 1st when he started to pee and crap on himself, i refuse to use adult diapers, thinking i cud train him back going to toilet,... but my effort was useless after several years trying,...

i'm starting diapers at him but i encounter few problems, and wud like to ask any1 experience caring for elderly for few things,...

1) i don't quite get it right sticking the diapers properly,... shud it be done standing or lying?

2) he got compulsive behavior of tearing off the diapers,.. 1 days about 4 or 5 pieces torn most of it is dry... how to stop this compulsive behavior since he can't understand realty and he forgot things i told him just in few minutes,.. he's a dementia patient...

4) is there any other economical diaper in the market?... i bought few type stick-on normal brand Tena (rm15) and higher water retention type brand Tena (rm25) which is only got 10 pieces per pack...
