Which Workstation build should I go for ?

I would like all the sifus to guide me on this one . It's my first time building a server spec workstation , so please enlighten me if I have made mistakes.

Purpose
To build a workstation that can can be on 24/7 , opening more than 1xx tabs of chrome and still perform .

I program , develop web apps and mobile apps. So Virtualization is important , as I use docker and android studio and virtualbox for other OS such as windows 10.

Occasionally , some light gaming if possible ( hopefully linux supports more games ) .

There are 2 LAN ports , so most probably will host another VM dedicated to openMediaVault and mount another 2TB HDD .

OS
Xubuntu 18.04 LTS ( Making it lightweight so apps can fully utilize the RAW power of the CPUs and Rams )

Worrying Points
As these xeon processors are quite old , especially the v1 which is 7 years old . Not knowing that it can last more than 5 years before it becomes obsolete and I thought about that and came out with the build 3 but that puts alot of problems for me especially when i have budget constraints.

I dont have the exact benchmark for anything above, would like the inputs and insights of all sifus out there especially on the pros and cons .

APC UPS 12V battery replacement

Hi everyone , does anyone know which 12V batteries on the market is available to replace the APC UPS battery.

The battery inside my UPS is GP 1272 12V 28W .

Not really sure which battery to buy for replacement.

Australia Migrate ( 189 ) - Steps ?

Hi there ,

I'm planning on migrating to Australia via ( 189 ) skills visa . I'm having some headaches , it would be greatly appreciated if someone could provide me some pointers or point me to the correct direction . I've read through the migration guidelines and have a brief idea but still hoping all those with experience could help enlighten me with their experience and hopefully this thread would assists others in their future migration to Aus.

I'm collecting my documents for my skills assessments .

If I'm not mistaken , I would need to certify true copy of all my photocopied Certificates ( Degree , Diploma , etc ) , where is the best place to do this ? FYI , I am currently located in Penang.

As for the employment reference , the first company that I've worked before has already been closed down. From what I read , I'm a software engineer ( ACS Website ) states that I need a Affidavit with supporting documents .
I searched through google and the results I found was to go the public notary from the list ->> . [ List of Public Notary Penang

Another question is that would I need to make an appointment with the public notary firm and bring my previous manager in together to sign the affidavit in front of the notary officer ? How much would it costs ?

If anyone got any agents to intro , please do list here or pm me . Would like to know my options , haha .

PS . I am still currently at the documents collecting stage , if anyone can help on providing more info on steps later is greatly appreciated.

Taobao Agent - Guilty or not Guilty -

Hi everyone , I just experienced a somewhat called unpleasant service from a Taobao Agent . Based on the responses from you guys then only I will decide whether to expose that agent ( from this forum )

It will be quite lengthy , hope you guys could bear with me.

My Story

On May 23 2016
I Pmed the Agent for a quotation of items . The agent quoted me with a rough figure .

May 27 , 2016

Got Feedback on some items being sensitive need special freight .
Updated the list and added some items .
Ended up removing those sensitive items.

The Agent then placed this below the notification

Stated the customs did not give any reason why.

#1 Update from warehouse.

The parcel return from kastam, there is one sensitive item, this item totally unable use air freight, even use sensitive freight also cannot!! sea is the only option!

#2 Update from warehouse:

Warehouse inform to forward out the parcel have to charge international postage(awaiting final weight) because of the sensitive item, lucky china kastam didnt penalty, if got the penalty is RMB1000!! lucky warehouse above get it out without penalty!

if want use air freight, this item MUST exclude the 礼花炮, cos this item is "explore-able item" cannot up plane.

Conversation START!!

Me : I then told the agent to just exclude the 礼花炮 and resend it back to me without charges.

Agent replied: This is what warehouse informed us, due to when paid 1st time the item got hold , and they even went to a higher dept to help u get back the parcel without penalty. If not the penalty will be RMB1000.

Me : Then I asked agent why did not advise me that that item is a sensitive item ??

Agent replied : The seller didn't inform is a sensitive item , they just said can purchase.When it reached kastam, it failed the X-Ray scan and kastam informated cannot pass thru because it's explosive item. We tried our best to inform the warehouse to avoid the penalty and they did helped us to avoid the RMB1000. If not you will have to spend even more,.

Me : I told the agent , this thing would not have happened , you should know that is a sensitive item .

Agent replied: I asked the seller and seller said can purchase. If we noticed that is sensitive item , we would have informed you. Do you rmb when you have one sensitive item. Did I inform you ? I did inform you right ?

Me : Yes , u did , but this is a sensitive item too .

Agent replied: When I asked the seller , seller said can. Then for sure I will proceed. How should I advise you when seller said can purchase and they didn't said its sensitive item. If they said I would have inform you.

Me : Then can you charge this freight to seller bcoz he say this can proceed? I am just a customer. I do not know what items are sensitive.

Agent replied: Seller only send item to china warehouse only.When we asked seller this item is not sensitive item. When it's not sensitive item , then of cos can be send whether it's china or international.

* Alot of conversation repeating the above scenario *

Me : I told the agent then remove the item and repack and resend to me. Why should I bear the charges ? Shouldn't it be your responsibility to confirm the list and advise. It you knew this was a sensitive item in the beginning and all these would not have happened.

The agent kept saying its not their fault , etc .

Me : I said , fine , just repack and calculate how much.

Agent replied : Got the figure already . hundred plus ringgit.

Me : I told the agent , everyone makes honest mistake , nobody is perfect. How bout this , I'm in a good mood today , i'll pay half of it and the remaining you settle it.

Agent replied : Hi , warehouse ady gave discount (RM10 -.- ) very happy you are in good mood. but good mood doesnt mean can pretend memory lost and ask the people been help you pay half of your postage right ?

At this time , I was speechless , I asked a few other taobao agents on the 礼花炮 , immediately replied me No way !! it is prohibited item cant be shipped.

Conclusion

The agent kept on refusing on admitting it is their fault , don't want to compensate anything at all . I even am willing to pay half of it .

Is this appropriate response and feedback ? I definitely would not buy from this agent anymore.

Having no choice , I paid the money and the items arrived on 20 June , some items are missing inside . That's another story to cover.

So guys , would like honest evaluation and verdict on this matter. Cheers

Network Routing Build

Hi guys , I am planning to purchase a few routers and a switch. I will describe it down below , please do provide some advises , gurus and sifus.

I have unifi of 30 mb , my whole house ( 3 stories high ) has been wired with cat6 belden cables , i have 11 cables pulled from all over my house to my office room located at ground floor.

My draft built

Office [ ground floor ]
1) BTU -> ASUS RT-N66U ( Disabled wifi , so all processing would be used for IP assigning and bandwidth management )

2) All cables routed from wall jacks to a gigabit switch ( D-Link ( DGS-1016D ) ) and one cable from the ASUS RT-N66U

3) Cat 6 Wall jack -> gigabit network lan ( Computer main that I use daily )
Cat 6 Wall jack -> gigabit network lan ( computer that connects to printer and used as a file sharing pc )

4) WiFI enabled printer will be connected ->TL-WR1043ND

Living Room [ Ground floor ]

1) Cat 6 Wall Jack from gigabit switch -> TL-WR1043ND gigabit router ( Used for WIFI and android box and tv )

Walkway [First floor]
1) TL-WA830RE ( Repeater Mode ) to Extend the signals from ( TL-WR1043ND ) to broadcast signal to 2nd and first floor

Masterbedroom [First floor]
1) 1 jack from mastebedroom would be plugged to TV , 2nd jack would be android box as well

[optional] - [2nd Floor ]
1) Cat 6 Wall Jack -> WA850RE range extender ( just in case if the repeater on 1st floor cant reach 2nd )

Any Advises or suggestions on impact and will I be able to achieve gigabit speed ?

Personal equipment
Modem: given by tm , huawei h850a( i think )
Router: DIR-615
Firewall used: none

Problem details
First occurence of problem: don't remember
Problem frequency: every random minutes
Problem description: Connection Spiking making connection to the internet lost when browsing for 10 + seconds. I guess it is the stability issue.. Suspect it is the router that is causing it . Playing diablo 3 was harsh on unifi .. i kept on disconnecting non stop every few minutes while streamyx users are still in the game..
