Most effective way to apply for job

I've been actively seeking employment for the past one month...i've applied through various channels: email, online application form (in the company's website), job portal (eg Jobstreet)...but i noticed that email is still the way to go

Here's why, recently I applied thru an application form in a company's website...no news after 2 weeks. So i sent them an email (cos what have I got to lose, right?). Within 3 days, I got a call from HR

same goes for another company. applied online thru their site, no news. sent an email to them, and got a call the next morning

however this can't be generalized. some online application form works too (read: HR personnel bothers to go through them) as i've got reply by HR...

as for jobstreet, anyone have been called before for interview after sending in yr application? it's pretty daunting seeing so many applicants there...*sigh* no luck so far..

what about snail mail? does anyone still apply jobs through this way anymore? printing on quality paper, sealing the envelope, seems like so much work...and posting is much slower than other methods...do employers prefer this method, or not?

oh, and one more thing, I find some companies don't provide email / prefer jobseekers to fill in the online application form on their websites....in these cases, oh well, if you're lucky they will call you...if not, your application will be buried somewhere in their record, and you only will hear from them 5 yrs later

hmm, anyone successful with jobstreet/online forms/other methods aside from email so far?
