Affin

I am starting this threat for all investors, traders, punters, etc to share our info so that all participants can trade intelligently, and hopefully, profitably.

There's only one ground rule:

All recommendations must be based on information or fact, or analysis.

I'll start with one. If there are more participants, I'll progressively contribute more.

One of my favorite stock is Affin. It is a value stock currently trading at 1.72. Its NAV is 3.02. In terms of NAV/Price ratio, it is the highest among banks - 1.75. Its Core Cap ratio and Risk Weighted Cap ratio are among the highest. The only negative about Affin is NPL which is quite high at 3.38%. But Affin is profitable. EPS Q1'09 is 6.13, Q4'08 5.60. EPS for FY '08 is 19.6. To me, high NPL is not a concern so long as it is profitable. NPL is already deducted from the bottomline. In fact, the higher the NPL the higher will be the future earnings because of write back from the collection of NPL. Affin is currently out of fashion. So this is the time to buy at low price. You'll have to stay with it until the price move. A few institutions are accumulating the stock: Lembaga Tabung Angkatan Tentera, Bank of East Asia, Boustead.

Notice that Affin profits have actually improved from Q4'08 to Q1'09. Assuming that earnings growth for FY'09 is flat and is exactly the same as FY'08, the PE will still be 8.7 - an incredible buy for a bank selling below NAV.
