Video Editing Software for OS X

Hey I'm looking for some video editing programs which allow me to edit .avi files (one we get from torrents). iMovie doesnt seem to accept the file format. Anyone know of any that do? Would rather get the .avi file straight into the prog and do the editing instead of having to convert it from one format to another etc. Would prefer if it were free but wouldn't mind paying.

Thanks in advance

iPhone 3g and Maxis 3g

Hi there I'm not sure if this is the right forum to post this but I couldn't find an appropriate one. I'm currently studying overseas and will be back at the end of the year. Was wondering whether Maxis 3g, (the unlimited RM99 one) has a minimum contract period? And just to make sure: I'm using an NZ iphone 3g- would there be any fuss with the APN and stuff? or is it just a matter of popping in the maxis sim card and running it?

Thanks a bunch

Retaining Smooth UI while running MBP on batt?

I tend to work with numerous apps running at the same time. When I use expose functions with the power connected the UI is perfectly fuild.. However when I run my MBP (2.16 2GB ram)on the batt it becomes jittery which SERIOUSLY bugs me hehe. It's the same with all macbooks really.. I guess the CPU or GPU clocks are lowered without the power in order to extend batt life (correct me if I'm wrong). I've already tried setting it to 'better peformance' in energy saver while on the batt (which seemed like the obvious thing to do) but there's no difference really. Is there any way around it?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks in advance

edit:
Pls, before i kena hentam for not searching the forums thoroughly enough (googled as well), let me assure you that I have and if it is actually on the forum pls point me to it, thanks

Just out of curiosity, how much of a performance hit is it running windows on parallels compared to windows on bootcamp? Parallels is an emulator after all..

Thanks in advance for your feedback
