Samsung Galaxy 5 (aka i5500)

Hi all,

Just bought the Samsung Galaxy 5 for my wife yesterday. (This is my first experience with Android.)

Haven't got the chance to download any apps but first impressions are good. Response seem to be quite snappy (600MHz processor) from what little I have played with it.

Although the screen is QVGA (similar to Wildfire) it did seem to be sharper in appearance to the Wildfire - I had seen the Wildfire a month ago and was put off by the screen. This is probably due to its smaller screen size (2.8" vs. 3.2").

In fact, when looking for a (budget) smartphone for my wife, I had already discounted the Wildfire and had settled on the Nokia C6. That is until I saw the Galaxy 5 (heard about this model and had not considered it after my encounter with the Wildfire screen). Price aside, the choice between the C6 and Galaxy 5 was down to the screen resolution and OS. The C6 may have a higher resolution screen but my doubts about Symbian eventually tilted the scale.

In terms of styling and design, it loses out to the Wildfire, but then this one costs much lower. The physical buttons are plasticky but can't complain much at this price point.

Many shops do not have demo units but I found this one shop in Digital Mall PJ where the girl was almost volunteering to show the demo unit! If you are considering the Wildfire (i.e. budget Android) do check this one out as it's price is lower by almost RM500, and you don't lose much.
