hello all,

i have a cpu (amd athlon 3800 X2) that i would like to sell. unfortunately, i want to make sure it works properly an i do not have a mobo to test it out with.

this might seem like a stupid question, but i need suggestions.

is there anywhere (or anyone) who can help me test the cpu out?

kn8 ultra rig does not fully boot up

hey guys... i'm a little bit perplexed and was wondering if someone could help me out.

i scraped together and built myself a rig with the following:
abit kn8 ultra mobo
amd athlon 64 x2 4200+
2 x 1gb kingston value ram (ddr 400)
bfg 7800 gtx
80 gb hdd (ide)

for some reason my pc boots up and then turns off. the sequence is as follows.
1. psu fan starts and led 1 on mobo turns on (led is red)
2. led 2 turns green and cpu fan & north bridge fan starts
3. gpu fan starts and monitor responds (gets out of standby mode but nothing displayed on monitor )
4. everything stops working (all fans shut down) and led 1 stays red (led 2 goes off)

i've tried the following to now avail:
1. trying single sticks of each ram and a spare 512 mb stick (having no ram in the dimm wil cause a 2 second beep and no boot up sequence)
2. unplugging hdd (no difference)
3. removing and resinstalling gpu (no difference)

any suggestions or possible explanations folks?

p.s - don't know if this may help in the troubleshooting, but when i turn off the psu, led 1 (the red light) will stay on for approx 5 seconds before going off. if i was to re-start the pc and the red light was still on, nothing would happen. i can only successfully restart when the led light goes off.
