[WTS] Waldorf Micro Q synthesizer (37 keys)

THIS SYNTH HAS BEEN GIVEN AWAY TO DESERVING MUSICIANS.

MANY THANKS FOR YOUR INTEREST.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.

This synth is really versatile in that it can produce sounds suitable for music genres such as dubstep, electro, experimental, industrial, indie rock, ambient, progressive, trance, dnb, etc.

Manufactured around 2001 but still solid and relevant today as the build quality is superb and the sounds are editable.

Sonic texture and characteristics vary from lush, warm and deep (like analog) to cold, brittle and hard.

Lots of possibilities by presets or some of your own patches. Deep editing is possible so be prepared to read the manual and research online for patch authoring tips.

It can emulate traditional instruments (such as piano, organ and brass) with limited success but if that's what you're looking for, you're better off getting a keyboard arranger with standard GM sounds.

Six configurable 1/4 inch (TRS) outputs and a stereo input for processing external sounds. The vocoder is decent but I didn't play with it enough to make a proper evaluation.

This is a deeply editable electronic synthesizer made in Germany. See for yourself:

LISTEN TO THE LITTLE BLUE SYNTH. THE YELLOW ONE IS ALSO A WALDORF SYNTH (WAVETABLE XTK):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-CxJ8PCLT_8

THIS ONE IS RACKMOUNTABLE VERSION (SAME SOUND ENGINE):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TZR2gymXoks

IF YOU WANT MORE TWEAKABILITY YOU CAN USE THE mQ EDIT UTILITY IN TANDEM WITH A SOFTWARE DAW LIKE CUBASE:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h6we8HvVSl0

PLAYS WELL WITH OTHERS (FOR EXAMPLE, KORG MS20 MINI ANALOGUE SYNTH AND AKAI S2000 SAMPLER):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N4L4LxyCcE

SPECIFICATIONS:

Polyphony - 25 voices, expandable up to 75 voices
Oscillators - 5 oscillators per voice (Pulse with Pulse Width Modulation, Sawtooth, Triangle, Sine, 2 wavetables with 128 waves each and sub-oscillator per alt-wave); Noise generator
Memory - 300 single programs, 100 multi programs, 20 drum-maps
Filter - 2 Filters (including FM and distortion): Low Pass (12dB/24dB), Band Pass (12dB/24dB), High Pass (12dB/24dB), Notch (12dB/24dB), Comb Filter (positive/negative feedback)
VCA - 4 envelopes, enhanced ADSR configuration with loop and one shot function, bipolar; different trigger modes for each envelope, poly, mono, dual, unison, manual trigger etc.
Modulation - 3 LFOs up to audio range; Modulation Matrix with 16 slots, freely routable, pre-routed modulation destinations, sources selectable
Effects - 2 effects per program, up to 5 effects in Multimode (Effects: Chorus, Flanger, Phaser, Distortion, Delay, 5 FX, Vocoder)
Keyboard - 37 keys (Keyboard model)
Arpeg/Seq - Arpeggiator with 16 preset plus 1 user pattern, including accents, timing information, swing, glide, chords and more
Control - MIDI In/Out/Thru (16 parts)
Date Produced - 2000-2001

For more information, please refer to these links:
http://www.waldorf-music.info/hardware-arc.../micro-q-series
http://www.waldorf-music.info/hardware-arc...eries-downloads
http://www.vintagesynth.com/waldorf/microq.php

Upgrading CPU for Dell Vostro A840n?

Hi, all. I looked all over LYN for answers to this dilemma but no luck yet. I have a Dell Vostro A840n. The manual is below:

https://support.dell.com/support/edocs/syst.../G514HA02MR.pdf

It has an Intel T1500 (Dual Celeron @ 1.86Ghz) http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/Celeron_Dual...37NE036512.html

I would like to get a better processor for it. I'm considering a T7700 (C2D 2.4Ghz) http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?id=29762

Is it compatible with the laptop? If not, can you recommend any processors for it? Buying a new laptop is not an option right now. Also, will upgrading the RAM help any? I'm running 2 x 1GB Hynix 667MHz on XP32 SP2. Thanks in advance for your input.

V.

Is this system adequate for an audio DAW?

Hello, enlightened LYNers. I'm planning to get a system built for audio editing purposes. Finances are tight now but I need to get a basic system up and running; then I can upgrade a couple of components later. This is what I have in mind:

Gigabyte GA-880GMA-UD2H

AMD Athlon II X2 260 3.2GHz (stock HSF, NO OC) http://www.legitreviews.com/article/1301/1/

1 x 2GB DD3 KVR RAM @ 1333MHz http://www.valueram.com/asia/desktop/memory.asp

No Graphics card yet; just use onboard gfx and upgrade later (open to suggestions for later purchase)

Corsair Force F60 SSD (for OS and DAW programs only)

WD Caviar Black 1TB WD1001FALS (sample banks and work files)

450-500W 80+ PSU (is this enough? please read on and recommend)

I chose this motherboard because it features Firewire IEEE 1394a with a Texas Instruments controller chip (ESSENTIAL for audio), SATA 6.0 and USB 3.0 ports. Overall, I feel it is fairly decent and up to date board with is a good starting point. Also, I plan to upgrade the CPU and the GFX card later when I get more money to throw into this system.

I'll be running Windows XP Professional SP2 (32bit), Digidesign Pro Tools 8, Cubase 5 and a host of VSTs and sample banks. The reason I'm staying with XP32 is that audio applications have not caught up with 64bit OS like the rest of the IT world. Features such as Rewire are currently not possible in 64 bit platforms.

Example:
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

QUOTE

COMPATIBILITY: STEINBERG APPLICATIONS WITH MICROSOFT WINDOWS VISTA / WINDOWS 7 32-BIT AND 64-BIT

The Microsoft operating systems Windows Vista and Windows 7 are available in two versions, the 32-bit and 64-bit Edition. The main difference between these two versions is the amount of RAM memory that the operating system and applications can be addressed.

Windows x86 (32-bit) version
A 32-bit operating system only allows the operation of 32-bit applications, each application can use up to 2 GB of available memory. All Steinberg applications are available as 32-bit versions and 32-bit 7 can be run on Microsoft Windows Vista and Windows.

Windows x64 (64-bit) version
With the 64-bit versions of Microsoft Windows Vista and Windows 7, you can run both 32-bit and native 64-bit applications use, such as Cubase Cubase 5 or 5 x64. Thanks to the built-in operating system compatibility layer, 32-bit software on 64-bit operating system can be used. All Steinberg 32-bit applications run, therefore, both 32-bit and 64-bit operating systems. The difference is here again in the size of the addressable memory. A 32-bit application can use on a 64-bit operating system up to 4 GB of RAM (twice as much as in a Windows 32-bit version), while a native 64-bit application capable of much more to address RAM (up to to a terabyte).

For many products, offers Steinberg addition to the 32-bit version and a native 64-bit versions of which are located on the same installation media. So you can decide which version best suits your current requirements. If your product only in a 32-bit version is available (eg Sequel), it may still be installed on a 64-bit versions of Windows Vista / Windows 7, but can not be more than 4 GB of RAM can be addressed simultaneously. If a product is a native 64-bit version contains, it is stated in the system requirements on the Steinberg website.

Please note that there are other differences between the 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Steinberg applications. For example, some components are missing in the 64-bit version, such as QuickTime and Rewire. 64-bit VST host applications are not to use generally capable of 32-bit plug-ins, but will need native 64-bit plug-ins. Thanks to the VST Bridge technology from Steinberg, 32-bit VST plug-ins are still used in a 64-bit host environment. Please note that may occur due to technical limitations with this type of plug-in integration also compatibility issues. 32-bit Steinberg host applications on Microsoft Windows Vista / Windows 7 are not affected by these restrictions.

Any constructive input is appreciated. Please don't turn this into an Intel vs AMD thread. I'm looking for an affordable system with good bang for buck value. This is where AMD prevails. Thanks in advance.

V.

How to prevent corrosion (rust)

Hi. I did a search in the forums for solutions to this specific problem but I did not find any real answers. Here's the scenario:

I have a friend who operates an internet cafe near a beach. Business is good but the machines get damaged from the salt water particles in the air from the sea. His cafe is about 100m from the beach. The salt gets into the casing and all over the motherboard, fans, etc. He tries to isolate the machines in the room and wipes them whenever he can but it doesn't seem to help much. On average, the machines last about 6-8 months before they fail and need to be replaced.

Are there any kind of anti-corrosive sprays that he can use to coat the motherboards ? Also, I was thinking of suggesting fanless ITX systems and using air conditioners to filter out the salt...are those good options?

Thanks in advance for your help.

V.
