Hi,
This one is for those who have studied/lived in Canada.
I estimated a 4-year Engineering course in Univeristy of Alberta to cost ~RM400k, inclusive of living costs. Is this accurate?

Need reccomendation for laptop- Budget 5k

Title says it all.
What I'm looking for is a well-rounded laptop that is capable of multimedia/gaming/work- basically the entire package within a RM5k budget.
I've already gone down the Dell route, so I guess we can skip those
Haven't really considered other brands such as ASUS until now, so I'm quite confused as ASUS uses totally different naming system from Dell.

Currently considering:
Dell Studio XPS 16
ASUS N61JA
<s>ASUS N81Vp</s>
ASUS N82Jv (Is it available now?)
<s>Toshiba F60</s>
Alienware M11x
Lenovo Y460

Any suggestions for ASUS/other brand laptops?
P.S Suggestions will be added to the "Currently considering" list above so that there won't be overlap in ideas

CAL - Taylor's v Sunway

Hi all,
Enrolling for Combridge A-levels, and would like to know which college is better...
From what I gather,
-Sunway's CAL is slightly cheaper
-Taylor's location is slightly better (though a bit cramped)
-Sunway's campus is more comfortable (to me at least)
-Sunway offers me a slighly higher bursary (RM6K vs Taylor's 4k)

For further comparison, how are the lecturers? Quality of teaching? Replies from actual Sunway/Taylor's students much appreciated

A-levels March intake--- 4 subjects

Hi LYN,
I have my mind set on A-levels, but due to NS I have to take the March intake (Taylor's btw)
Plan to take Chem, Physics, Econs and Maths in addition to the compulsory Thinking Skills and Moral.

I have heard from some friends that if you go for March intake, taking more than 3 subjects will make your life a living hell as you would struggle to catch up with the lecturers and the syllabus.

So by taking these 4 subs, what exactly am I getting myself into? Hope all the experienced people here can give me a bit of help.... Thanks!

Alienware V Studio XPS - What am I paying for?

Hi all,
It's time to get myself a new lappie, and I have my sights set on the Dell Studio XPS 16 laptop. (Basic RM4199 online price version)
But then I saw an Alienware laptop on the website for RM5999.

Did a comparison of the specs- Dell Studio XPS 16 v Alienware M15x

1)First thing I notice is the processor- Intel C2D P8700 (2.53GHz) for the XPS versus the Intel CI7 I7-720QM for the M15x. It's only 1.6GHz but it's claimed to be "turbo up to 2.8GHz". Also, it has 6MB L3 cache (higher than the XPS). So what is "turbo" and what does this show about the performance about the processor?

2)4GB 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM (XPS) vs 3GB 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM (M15x) - M15x has 1GB less RAM, but the RAM is faster. What's the actual difference in performance?

3)Graphics- 1GB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4670 (XPS) vs 512MB GDDR3 NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 240M (M15x) Again, what's the difference?

All in all, should I decide to pay RM2k more for the Alienware, what is it exactly that I am paying for? Is it just the branding or will I get significantly better performance?

Comments and help much appreciated. Thanks!

Unable to run command line in WinXP

When I press Win+R I get an error message that says:
"This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator."
The "Run" icon has disappeared from the start menu.
I tried tweaking the settings under Group Policy, all it does is display the icon in the Start menu- still get the error message, and the icon disappears after a while.

BTW, my login screen no longer displays the "Shut Down" button as well.
