Steam Deck (by Valve)

I really like it.

https://www.lowyat.net/2021/245958/valve-st...ng-pc-official/

Too bad that in Malaysia we can't preorder, but for a handheld all-in-one PC, at below RM3k this is a bargain. Even better than the Aya Neo (despite 2 cores lesser) since it is based on Van Gogh APU that AMD has designed.

I also hope that there will be other companies that can provide a strong competition in terms of specs and pricing too.

UPDATES ON THE Storage options:

https://www.reddit.com/r/Steam/comments/olp...tent=t1_h5gvxb7]FROM THE REDDIT DISCUSSION[/URL]https://www.reddit.com/r/Steam/comments/olp163/was_wondering_if_the_steam_deck_will_have_a/?utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=usertext&utm_name=hardware&utm_content=t1_h5gvxb7

TL;DR: all models including EMMC are based on M.2 2230 (PCIE GEN 3) slot.

extra proof that even the EMMC model uses m.2 2230 slot

conclusion: if you don't need the premium anti glare, and the Steam DLC benefits, the emmc model is great if you have 1-2TB M.2 2230 SSD swap. Assuming if you are brave enough to do it.

More videos:

[YOUTUBE]YVGH-G_Y_sc[/YOUTUBE]

[YOUTUBE]hJoUs0pM4GU[/YOUTUBE]

[YOUTUBE]4FXgDAF6QpM[/YOUTUBE]

[YOUTUBE]h9eihvhM_KE[/YOUTUBE]

[YOUTUBE]oLtiRGTZvGM[/YOUTUBE]

[YOUTUBE]9kO6Dj2XNfY[/YOUTUBE]

WTA about MaxisOnePrime

Hi.

Long story short;
I moved to a new town, new workplace, etc etc in January 2019.

Then some things happened.

1. I'm not happy with my Unifi 300 (which I subscribed to from January, 2019).
2. I'm not happy with DiGi (because the coverage sucks, and when there is coverage, the speed is suspect) I'm using a DiGi i150
3. I'm not happy with my phone (because it broke down), so I'm using my old OnePlus One with the latest LineageOS running Android 9.0. But i'm still not happy.

So, while looking to tinker around my available resources (because I still have around 3-4 months worth of payment to be done for the phone), a friend told me that Maxis (later I found out its called Maxis One Prime) can probably solve all 3 above.

But i've run into some snags (like lacking of details).

1. How much do I have to pay if I terminate UNIFI? I know there's a termination fee of RM500. But I think there's something about hypptv, and i'm only 4-5 months into Unifi.
2. As for the MaxisOne, I think they allow device bundle, but they didn't say whether its still maxis one, or its zerolution, or what.
3. I'm trying to work out the math for Zerolution / zerolution 360, and trying to figure out is it better to

a) buy a proper high end phone from maxis so it becomes fibre + mobile + phone,
or
get the fibre + mobile, but buy a phone separately (like from DirectD)?

The only reason why i'm thinking of such is mainly due to

a) Maxis Fibre has 4G backup in event that fibre fails
b) the consolidated Maxis One Prime shoots the data from 40GB to unlimited (or actually 300GB, if reports are true)
c) a+b should be mathematically cheaper than Unifi 300 + DiGi i150 but retains the benefit of both.

d) i'm trying to not count in a phone, although I have to admit I really need a proper long term replacement.

Any advice?

[WTA] Videography gear advice

Hi everyone.

I would like some advices.

These are example of students works that I'm emulating (our group is in one of the groups listed). (for our school). We call it Digital Student News Group. It is to encourage students dabbling in videography for hobby, or for their co-curricular activity.
[YOUTUBE]UCt0kapLpsHlW48gEE06gDvw[/YOUTUBE]
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCt0kapLpsHlW48gEE06gDvw

May I ask for some advices?

What I need advices are on the hardware front. Software front I'm good because just not-so-recently Humble Bundle got a bundle on videography (Vegas Pro bundle) so I guess that's a really good start.
What I want to do is to buy the necessary gears for at least a "presentable" student news group.
For videography, normally phone cameras will do, but the shakiness, audio mismatching (and especially poor audio quality) is an issue.
I would like to ask the community what are the "must have" tools?
I think a gymbal is a must, or a stabilzer, but when I had a look at the prices, its at least few thousand bucks, so that's out of the window.
I'm planning to have students and teachers cover events easily, without seccond guessing if the audio and video quality will be good or not.

I think these are needed, but I'll appreciate your input, and what kind of economic yet practical solution can be done?

I've seen some other groups lugging a videography (in the workshop) drone all the way, even for normal shots and interview shots, and I find it cumbersome.

- tripod
- a mic? (but not sure what kind)
- some sort of filter? (not sure where to apply)
- what kind of camera / gymbal / setup

Primarly for those "newsroom" and "on site reporting" style of shooting. Many thanks.

Rebuilding a ER6N (2007 model)

Hey folks.

Certain things happened in life. But now I've been given a new fresh breath / lease in life.

However, certain things didn't made it. Like my ER-6N. It suffered with me, but it sorta, let's just say, I worked it to death. I know its my fault. It died a couple of months ago.

The bike's been with me, 10 years. 11-12 if you consider that the previous owner crashed it (and passed away, I heard).

The bike's not in good shape. Still I want to rebuild it. Because its been with me, thick and thin. Now I just want to make sure its properly rebuild, so that I can continue using it.

What works:
Engine, in great condition
Muffler, coarse sound (maybe what they call as "kapas habis terbakar")

What needs remedy:
Chain and sprocket
Forks (both sides, front)
Handlebar + balancer + end balancers + side mirrors. Everything needs a replacement.
Front lamp. It works, but the glass is kinda busted / cloudy. Furthermore, the shop in KL send it in without a proper cowling mount. They just clip it on some metal.
Front rim (there's a damage which makes it uneven, so might as well change new rim)
Water cooling system (i can fill in water and it evaporates, and after I park the bike the damn thing will pee itself literally). So I'm not sure what on earth is going on. But I know it means serious trouble. Right now the radiator fan is always on, but it doesn't mean that the engine is sufficiently cooled.
Speedometer unit (the unit works, but the digital meter's screen is completely faded. Meaning I can't see shit. I can't see how fast i'm going, I can't see how many KM i'm making, etc.
Brakes and brake pump (i think the entire set including with the hoses, resevoirs, etc)
Key set (somebody once attempted a robbery, so now the key's busted. The tank key, the ignition key, and the seat key, all busted. It needs a change.

What can be considered:
A repaint?
Add on sliders, buy new cowling?

what I would love to:
add top, and side panniers (suggestions?)
add a seat cowl (so that it remains 1 seater, and I like it that way)
change accessories / add more like rear rain guard on wheel, chain tightener, etc.

I did some homework, and this is the list from online sites, etc. I think its reference, but i'm only basing it on Mudah. I'm not familiar with facebook shops, or any other online shops. If you know great alternatives, please tell me.

However, i'm not exactly sure about two things.
1. Should I delegate everything to the shop?
2. Should I buy the parts myself, get it sent, and let the shop do everything else?

cowling (headlamp)
fork ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- RM2k (2nd hand)
air filter -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- unknown (preferable inverted forks from Versys which means no need conversion of triple head)
water pump unit ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- unknown
brake unit ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- uknown, original is tokico, supposedly can use Nissin ones, but not sure depending on fork setup.
front rim -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- RM1000 per piece, used
gear indicator --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- RM300
tail lamp ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------RM300
rear disc brake ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------RM200
steering stabilizer / dampener----------------------------------------------------------------- RM100
front disc brake ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------RM600
tank pad -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------RM10-100
tank kneed pad ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------RM200
Rear tyre splash guard --------------------------------------------------------------------------RM 300
rear hugger guard ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- RM100 (its right below the seat, right at the swingarm)
Seat cowl ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- RM350(means only single seater)
Sprocket & chain ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------RM630
sprocket chain guard------------------------------------------------------------------------------RM100-150
engine guard --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------not found.
handlebar guard -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------RM150-200 (like motorcross) (got any with signal?)(got one with lamps!)
handlebar crash guard ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- not found / not sure
windscreen ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- not found / not sure
tankring adapter------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ RM50
fender / fender eliminator (need something that doesn't pull water ---------------------------- RM200
bike cover ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- RM100 (nylon?)
kickstand pad --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- RM50 (CNC metal)
handlebar ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- unknown
handlebar grips ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- unknown
signal lamps (bright led) --------------------------------------------------------------------------- RM150-200 per pair, need 2 pair / sets for front and back
pannier ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- RM1000-5000, all used.
Hi.

I've just downloaded warframe. In hindsight I ran a different user (which is Malaysia region and not US region), so I cannot use eshop.

I've got 2 users, one Malaysia, the other one USA.

For some reason I forgot, I used the Malaysia punya.

So now no access to eshop, and i can't buy stuffs.

Is there a way to change user A to say, USA region?

Any help here would be much appreciated
BlackBerry-on-Android, squeeze all the juice!

First post

* key points: BlackBerry in an Android is a significantly different experience of an Android
* What to expect, what NOT to expect, what can be done to squeeze more juice.

work in progress.

Preface:

Hi, i'm hyperyouth_firepower of Lowyat.Net, also known as MechaGodzilla of UTTBLOGS.
This is a series of post designed to assist old, new, veteran and returning users on BlackBerry on Android devices to squeeze as much power as possible from the phone, not in processing power, but in terms of productivity practicality.

The BlackBerry has always been about getting things done in your phone, because a phone is a phone. An entertainment device is an entertainment device. A phone's primary function is to communicate. An interactive device has primary function to make things interactive. Therefore communication can be dull, it can also be exciting. However, the core of the principle, is to facilitate communication effectively.

If you're here, you're probably either to seek redress on how to make your BlackBerry-on-Android device better to suit your needs. After all, in the sea of slabs after slabs and more slabs, BlackBerry devices stand out due to its individuality, even if there are people who ridicule it (which is ironic because Android slabs are all about customizability, and therefore promotes individuality). If you can find an answer / solution here, great. If not, we'll try to help. We, as in everyone, including yourself.

A quick history of BlackBerry-on-Android.

- BlackBerry announces BlackBerry Priv, in a slider form factor in 2015, as their first ever "full Android foray".
- BlackBerry creates an offshoot company, BlackBerryMobile, and partners up with TCL. DTEK 50,60 were announced.
- BlackBerryMobile releases BlackBerry KeyONE, the last known 'designed-in-house' device, but built entirely by TCL.
- BlackBerryMobile releases BlackBerry Motion, the first 'designed by TCL', and built by TCL (not a rebranded phone)
- BlackBerryMobile teases features a new device with physical keyboard, 4.5" screen (that's very similar to BlackBerry KeyONE), with 6GB RAM and features Snapdragon 660.

A quick recap of what is BlackBerry-on-Android experience.

1. Android is Android, the OS that is fully developed by Google. At the time of writing, Android 8.x (OREO) with Project Treble is underway, and this update, should all phone OEMs comply, will drastically alter the way Google interacts with its partners (including BlackBerry) on how they interact with each another.

2. BlackBerry is a company that prides itself in making 'secure' devices, with their experiences in BBOS, BlacKBerry 10 and even an attempt to fork Google Android ala Amazon Kindle Fire. Their latest effort is now entirely on promoting a secure, hardened edition of Android that is more resilient and resistant towards unwanted security breaches. The definition of 'security' includes rooting, unlocking the bootloader, and gaining access at kernel / administrative level in ways that are not designed to be.

Sample questions.

Question: Is a BlackBerry device meant for me?
Answer: That's not what we're going to do here. Your mileage and expectations would be different. A hardcore burnt out BlackBerry fan can be the most vicious person you'll ever meet talking about BlackBerry (the company, the device, the service, everything). What we do here, is gather what can be done to squeeze more juice out of your BlackBerry.

Question: I can't change the wallpaper (or insert anything)
Answer: That's what we'll talk about, in this thread.

Question: Does the new BlackBerry on Android runs on BIS subscriptions, or must it run on BES?
Answer: No, and no. Just buy a BlackBerry, plug in your SIM card, and voila. It just works.
WTA: Advice on call forwarding / second line.

Hi all, would appreciate some good advices.

I'm using phone A, with DiGi 150. I've been using the number for many years.

I'm getting a new phone, which i'll be calling phone B. I plan to carry both phones.

However, phone A is also my main "broadband" line. I know it sounds stupid, but it is such because there's no streamyx / unifi where I live.

So when I get my phone B, I want to have calls and sms-es forwarded to phone B. I don't wanna kill phone B with 24/7 tethering (hotspot)

(other instant messengers can migrate over, even if the SIM is on phone A, that much I know)

THe thing is, what should I do?

Grab a subline from DiGi?

Or grab a new line from another company?

Digi, celcom, maxis works.

Umobile does not. No 3G, no 4G.

Webe? 3G.

The others? Not so sure.

Any advice?

WTF: witnesses for accident in Bakar Arang

UPDATE: WE NEED HELP TO CORROBORATE THE PERPERTRATOR'S STORY:

Update:
The family found out that the opposing party made a police report. In the police report, he stated that my cousin in his kapcai RAMMED INTO him.
WE NEED witnesses. Please tell US if you've witnessed the accident. IT was BUSY road. A busy area. SOMEBODY must have seen something.

IF its true that my cousin rammed into him, we'll accept it.
BUT IF HE WAS KNOCKED DOWN, and not the one ramming, then we NEED TO KNOW. Because we WANT TO PURSUE JUSTICE.

Update: I've also updated relevant information as of below

Two Sundays ago during Cheng Meng, a hit and run happened to my cousin. If you've heard anything, or know anything, PLEASE talk to me.
My nieces lost their father.

TL;DR:
He rode on a kapchai and got knocked down.
Time: 4pm, (edited from noon)
Date: 26th March, 2017 (Cheng Meng period)
Location: Bakar Arang, Sg Petani. (the ONE AND ONLY U-TURN IN BAKAR ARANG ,SG. PETANI NEAR PETRONAS) *UPDATED*

I cannot promise you any reward.
But, please.
There must be a closure.
WE'VE FOUND THE PERPETRATOR. NOW WE NEED TO KNOW THE TRUTH OF THE SITUATION.

the long story edition:

My cousin rode a kapcai (with helmet and all).
He got knocked down, and probably had a bad fall. It was HIT AND RUN.
The other party who knocked him sped off. The other party never bothered to even check on my cousin. The other party left him for dead just like that. (THIS IS STILL TRUE). HE MADE A POLICE REPORT, BUT the family does not TRUST that report. IT was entirely one sided in the opposing party's favour. HE NEVER BOTHERED TO EVEN MEET to apologize. He did absolutely NOTHING.

WHERE IT HAPPENED:
At a dual-lane carriageway that has a U-TURN in Bakar Arang, Sg. Petani, nearby Petronas.

SPECULATION:
These speculation were based on orally transmitted bits of information about the opposing party's police report (since the family can't get the opposing party's police report, apparently)

1. Car switched lane from right to left. Because according to the police report he did so because the right lane was congested with cars that wanted to U-turn.
2. Somehow someway my cousin was knocked down. THe opposing party reported that my cousin rammed his kapcai into his car.
3. after the kapcai rammed into his car, the driver fled to a police station to report it that he got banged by a kapcai.

WHAT WE KNOW:
1. The man who called an ambulance saw a car speeding off. He saw bits of the car number, (but as of typing the funeral is going on, so I can't get the car number just yet, and i don't even know if there's anything WORTH doing to the car number)
2. The man who dialed the ambulance saw a dark skinned man, that looked Indian.
3. When family found out about the opposing party's police report, it was a Muslim name.
4. Family could only report that an accident has happened.
5. Despite having an accident, the victim was in pain, and assisted by some passerbys. He never got to mention how he was involved. It just happened to him.

ON OUR SIDE:
1. No witnesses, but found car number. But no actualy witnesses to the accident.
2. There were passerbys that helped him. Some called the ambulance. Ambulance was reportedly supposed to arrive in 15 minutes time (from GH?)
2a) Somebody recognized my cousin and contacted his worker. His worker rushed to accident site to assist my cousin.
2b) He complained of chest pain. Ambulance never arrived despite after 15-20 minutes, daughter arrived, and made decision to quickly drive to the nearest hospital. Jam, etc. (Probably this made things worse, I don't know). They tried to send him to Metro, then due to traffic went to Pantai. Pantai took a scan on him, (at this point he slipped into coma) and told the worker and daughter that he was dying. Pantai told the family to send him over to GH.
Some took pics of him (typical modern society) and passed around. Eventually the family found out. He was conscious when the LAST KNOWN picture of him was shown (which I'll never post here). He was last photographed assisted into a sitting postion on the asphalt floor. (Probably something that shouldn't be done)

Then he slipped into a coma.
He passed away today, (5th April, 2017), at 1.45pm.

Right side of the skull fractured.
Brain compressed.
Blood clot in the head.

7 vertebrae bones from the neck down cracked.
Right hip bone fractured.

He never got the chance to say goodbye to his family.
He never got the chance to say anything to his family.

We knew people helped / assisted him.
We knew there were no witnesses to the accident.
We knew it was a hit and run, because there were traces.

Police NOW KEPT THE CASE OPEN *EDITED FROM CLOSE CASE* due to death of a party involved.

I beg of you.

I'm clutching at straws. His family are clutching at straws.

Despite what my religion teaches me, and what Buddhism teaches their family (the family is bereaved, but they accepted the death), I cannot but to scream in anguish that my cousin is a victim to a hit and run while the killer walks away shirking responsibilities. I can accept that he's gone (because I have to). But I cannot accept the injustice.

Please, help me.

You can PM my inbox, if there are leads. I beg of you.

Please. Some people tell me its crazy to ask /k, but here I am, because i've exhausted all methods that I know. People to call, clues to note, etc. I'm at wits' end.

If you know anything, please. *EDITED*

(It wasn't a robbery, his personal items were still with him, AFAIK).

Any advices, please tell me.

Windows 10 Admin privilege

Hi folks.

I'm not sure how to describe the problem;

but I know there are few symptoms:

1) some programs refuse to update themselves. Like SMADAV, or GOG Galaxy.
2) some programs that were elevated to have admin privileges does not run with admin privileges (even if its elevated).

The only thing I recall doing was to tinker with some admin privileges / rights after reading an article about how to prevent ransomware from writing over documents, files, etc. I suspect it may have caused this. This was many moons ago.

Alternatively, if I can identify, I would prefer leaving things as is, but solve the connodrum I have with the 2 apps (and also other apps in the future probably) because there are other apps that don't seem to be affected (like ESET NOD32), or other apps that require admin privileges.

The problem with SMADAV?
1. It updates, it downloads the updates, and then nothing happens.
2. Same thing goes with GOG. It tells me that it wants to update, shuts itself down, nothing happens. Even worse, the only game I have, Witcher3, goes into an endless updating loop and I have no way to play the game at all. After deleting and reinstalling the game (it goes into a downloading loop of 34GB every time), it'll say an "error in configuration" and be unable to install, with the game oddly downloaded where its supposed to be downloaded.

Any help folks?

[WTA] how to finish legendary ring

Okay, here's what happened.

Today's Tuesday (before weekly resets which I think is around 3-5pm, i forgot).

I'm playing in Shu'halo, Americas.

My situation:

12/33 tomes (apparently its supposed to be non 100% drop, but somehow I got lucky during rushing every LFR raid. No, I don't know people in big guilds that can do normals, and i'm pretty casual myself so LFR is the way to go despite LFR and non LFR (normal, hardcore, mythic bla bla bla) raids have different lockouts

11/25 naval treasures

Realistically, if tomes drop all the time, i've got this week, and next reset (23rd August), assuming I get super lucky.

what are my chances to get the ring done? (i'm already about to give up)

Hi there.

I got myself a part of ESET NOD32 3+3 (family member bought it, and decided to share with me).

The impression i've got from ESET website, 3+3 = 3 computers / laptops + 3 mobile devices.

But the description is so vague, because it says "any combination" so it could also mean any of the following devices up to 3 devices.

Does anyone with experience can help me? After all, if there's coverage, might as well use it (since its already given for free from family member).

Hey there, may I ask about this HDD?

I was told that the model can be torn down and the HDD can be yanked out, but a search on Lelong says the newest models are STDR200030X. Highlighted the 3 because the previous batches are STDR200020X. Think of it as Android with BlackBerry stuffs. Hardcore Android purists will call it 'bloatware', so it depends. If its as useful as BlackBerry Apps on BlackBerry 10, its gonna be really good.

- Display at 5.4-Inch, 1440x2560, 537ppi, not sure Super AMOLED or IPS or IGZO, or what.
-Camera - Rear: 18MP, Fast Focus, OIS, 4K video capable. Front: 5MP HD. Uses Schneider Optics's lenses. BlackBeryry's own fast focus based on TOL which was present in the Passport should be here.
- Hybrid touch keyboard (just like the passport, but with full four rows instead of a miniaturized 3 in Passport)
- Full stereo speakers on bottom grill.

(more to come as details emerge)

YES4G Speedzy

Hi, I think I should start this one, as YES FIZ is YES FIZ, and YES Speedzy is YES Speedzy.

www.yes.my/speedzy

What is YES Speedzy?

YES Speedzy is a YES4G on WiMAX, which is now for Sabah, as opposed to YES FIZ which is meant for entire of West Malaysia.

What's different?

- A White coloured Zoom, updated model (not the old bulky black one)
- Locks to a single tower, so you can't bring it around (not sure about this, but according to agent, this IS the case)
- RM119 per month, registration RM150. As opposed to YES FIZ which only costs RM79 (not inclusive of GST)
- 24 months contract
- 384kbps UPLOAD, 1mbps DOWNLOAD. Think of this as a wireless version of 1mbps STREAMYX, but without most of the problems associated with STREAMYX in Sabah. (if you grew up with STREAMYX in the late 90s up to mid 2000s, you'll understand what I meant before the 4-8mbps packages came by.
- supposed to be unlimted, but has been advertised with 30GB FUP. Although, it is technically 'unlimited' because once the FUP is used up, we get 128kbps. However, as far as I know, its not enforced yet (and hopefully not)

Who am I?
a user

Why start this thread?
So that all YES Speedzy users (Sabahans) can gather here and share together tips, tricks, problem troubleshooting, etc.

16/32GB of RAM & 256GB SSD [SOLVED]

[SOLVED] READ BOTTOM

I remember seeing a thread right here in LYN, and I thought it was this section but I could never find it somehow.

Basically, the idea was that if you have a SSD as the OS disk, and have more than 12GB of RAM (like 16, or in certain cases where you max out to 32GB of RAM), there are few things that we could do to improve system and disable redundant things done on our PC, such as disabling page file or something.

But right now i'm exactly clueless. Yes, this is because this is my first SSD, and the first time i'm using a 16GB of RAM (which would be upgraded to 32, despite the timing being 11-11-11-28 or something, but not the 'true gaming' 9-9-9-xx timing) which i'm going to fully utilize anyway (some visual media and audio media processing, especially when i do that on 2-3 video making per week)

But I'm not so sure. Any advice, please?

Edit: SOLVED

Use this guide to help, if you have 16GB RAM like me, and have an SSD together with a 7200RPM normal HDD with lots of space.

http://www.thessdreview.com/ssd-guides/opt...dows-8-edition/

[Review]Illegear RS-15 January 8 2015

My Illegear RS-15 (based off the Clevo P150SM-A)

Backstory:

My Compaq Presario V3840TU was in need of a major overhaul, it was getting a wee bit too broken for me to rely upon it, and I have since lost my trusted desktop, so I survived only on that laptop since 2007/8, up to this week (12th January as of writing)

The purchase story:

I first contacted Illegear back in November, to enquire what models they have, bla bla bla. I was serious about buying an Illegear, but I just wasn't sure what model I wanted, due to budget constraints. Then I got a tailwind, and decided to go for something that I can make use for a long long time. Long story short, I settled down with an RS-15, and I’m loving it.

DISCLAIMER: I’m not affliated in any way with Illegear, sans the fact that I bought an RS-15 from them. This is my own review, and in no way reflect Illegear’s opinions or stances. Opinions are solely mine. Your mileage may vary.

My configuration:
ILLEGEAR RS-15
Custom Painting Services: “Gunmetal Grey” Full Body painting with custom signature
Display: 15.6" Full HD Anti-glare Display (1920 x 1080) (its from AUO, at least what the program says)
Screen tuning: Professional Color Calibration, Guaranteed no dead or partially-lit pixels for first 180 days of purchasing.
Processor: Intel® Core™ i7-4710MQ (6MB L3 Cache, 2.50GHz)
Graphics Card: Nvidia GeForce GTX 980M 8GB GDDR5 with Optimus (Maxwell) (oddly CPU-Z insists it’s a 4GB model, but nvidia program says its 8GB)
Thermal Compound: IC Diamond Thermal Compound - CPU & GPU
RAM: 16GB Dual Channel DDR3L RAM 1600MHz - 2 X 8GB (oddly CPU-Z says its only 800MHz, despite the RAM being a Team Elite PC12800, which is supposed to be 1600MHz, or I’m wrong? Not sure)
Primary Drive: 1TB 7200rpm Hitachi Hard Drive
mSATA SSD RAID Options: Non-RAID
Primary mSATA Solid State Drive: 256GB Crucial M550 mSATA Solid State Drive
Secondary mSATA Solid State Drive: None
Optical Drive Bay: DVD-R/RW DL Combo Optical Drive
Wireless Network Card: Realtek RTL8723AE - WLAN & Bluetooth 4.0 Combo (My one came with Intel 7260, was a free upgrade, so to speak)
Accessories: ILLEGEAR Backpack & Velvet Sleeve
Purchase Additional Accessories: GIGABYTE Gaming Mouse M6900
Operating System: Original Windows 8.1 64bit
Warranty: ILLEGEAR 2 Year Carry-In Limited Warranty

As you can see, there are rooms for upgrading, such as upgrading the RAMs to 32GB, or another MSATA slot for SSD (if it actually becomes cheap) or a room for another HDD by removing the DVDROM and installing a caddy case, or the MXM card can be upgraded, the processor, the Intel 7260 (some prefer the 7265, if they’re having issues with the 7260, or Killer brand) wifi+Bluetooth chipset, etc etc. I don’t ever plan nor want to overclock this laptop, and I intend not to do any overclocking at all. But overall, I’m fine with the setup, and I really like it.

Pictures are at the most bottom part of this review, which will be updated from time to time.

As for benchmarks I’m not keen on putting any (since I don’t own any), but I did ran 2 benchmark programs from Steam that I got for free, namely: Star Swarm Stress Test, and Biohazard 6 Benchmark Tool.

Biohazard 6 Benchmark Tool: 12k

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Star Swarm Stress Test:
Test Duration: 360 Seconds
Total Frames: 16991

Average FPS: 47.19
Average Unit Count: 4185
Maximum Unit Count: 5661
Average Batches/MS: 970.05
Maximum Batches/MS:	3467.99
Average Batch Count: 19992
Maximum Batch Count:	86689

Update on gameplay:

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

For TES5:Skyrim, I now have around nearly 300 mods, and slowly increasing. I was finally able to push the laptop to really utilize all of its 8GB VRAM, or at least more than the game locked 1-2GB VRAM. With T.A.Z ENB (which is a pretty hardcore ENB) I suffered from 60FPS to 30 FPS, with all the settings provided in the S.T.E.P, which is actually already quite demanding on the GPU) Call me crazy, but I intend to find means to load up to 500++ mods because I just want to have all of it. I liked the mods, and I will continue to use them.

For Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition, at first I had some real jaggy, laggy animation. I remembered [@Prince J]'s advice to check the GeForce. Set it to use only NVIDIA GTX980M, problem solved. Ultra high, maxed out settings, but no perceivable lags. Steam's own FPS counter remained above 30FPS (i can tell you its more than 100, but its not like you can see anything 'better' since its already 1080p anyway) and the fan never kicked in at full blast. Note, if you're buying the new D5/D7, you will NEVER have this issue because the motherboard on D5/D7 already disables Nvidia Optimus by default, reverting everything to the GTX970m/980m. You can't even turn Optimus on the D5/D7.

Update 20/3/2015
So I have few AAA titles that I ran in, such as Far Cry 3, Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon, Homeworld Remastered Edition, Assassin's Creed Brotherhood, Revelations, III, IV: Black Flag, Borderlands 2, Saints Row 2, 3, 4, and XCOM Enemy Unknown.

So frankly speaking, this laptop does pass the test as a gaming-ready machine. Other benchmarks such as FURMARK, or 3DMARK would supplement this claim, as there are many others before me who have done such benchmarks even on older GPU, such as the 780, the 680, and the 880. I’m not exactly a speed freak, so to speak, but with the amount of money I had this is considerably the best “stretch your budget to the maximum” kind of a laptop that one can get. Some may argue to dispose the Crucial, and get a Samsung 840 instead, but I have personal preferences, and going with the setup, the Crucial was the choice I would rely upon. But then, it has room for upgrades, and I won’t waste any in the future.

One thing I noticed for this laptop, is the detail of worksmanship when you ask for custom details. I have to say that it is absolutely amazing. As you can see from the pictures, the amount of custom works is simply amazing. If you’re going for a custom paintjob, my advice is to go all out. It’s worth it. I would have wanted a full custom artwork myself but the amount of attention it generates will be bad for me and my laptop, so I took a full body Gunmetal Grey colour scheme, with a custom signature, keeping the word “Illegear” and “RS-15” as a small touch. Team Illegear did not disappoint.

As for day to day usage, I’ll have to break up into two parts, one is for the laptop, and another for the bag. After all, I’m a full blown road warrior, and the laptop stays with me for most part of the day.
Some things to note:

1)	3KG combined for a laptop + power brick (its really huge) may be a dealbreaker for some. I wasn’t. In fact the bulk and weight does not bother me much (if you want to get a much slimmer, but less configurable laptop, I suggest the Z5 or the S5, you won’t be disappointed as well).

2)	The Illegear laptop sleeve is godsent. Its something I suggest that you use, especially when you need to transport the laptop in a bag that wasn’t designed to keep laptops. (The Illegear bag is good enough for this, but more on that later). As far as I’m told, this is a new laptop sleeve design (a v2, unless [@TeamIllegear] may want to update on this)

3)	On cooling, basically I recommend to pay extra for the Diamond paste for both CPU and GPU. It’s a world of difference between the normally pasted ones. As for temperatures, I haven’t felt warm nor hot on the keyboard, and neither on the palmrest (the spots on the left and right of the mousepad). General rule of the thumb, do not place the laptop running on top of any fabrics. I have played games, and I haven’t for once even heard the sound of the fans. However, pressing FN+1 does kick the fan into a full overdrive. My impression? It isn’t that loud (I’ve heard much louder fans, and this is proven in terms of DB, and I know some cheap made in China cooling pads that have an even louder noise than the fan on full blast), but I would advise against putting the fan on a full blast in very quiet areas such as the library, as people’s perception of what is loud and what isn’t varies. Common sense applies. For much thicker laptops with bigger vents, like the up and coming P75xSM models (not sure how Illegear will call them) it may be louder and warmer, but I don’t own that unit, so I’ll refrain from talking about that. FN+1 key will activate it, with the notification on the top left.

Updated: For some odd reason, using this machine outdoors is a bad thing. Its not a calamity, but the fans will actually kick in, and i found the air blowing from the vents really hot (but the laptop stays unnoticeable cool, no warmth) leading me to think that for some reason either

a) the possibility of sunlight warming up the machine
b) the possibility that the vents need to have space to pump air in and out of the laptop, so it must be on a flat surface at all times

What I noticed though is that, If you have an eraser, just pop it down to the rear of the laptop, raising it slightly (so the laptop is now slanted at an angle, with the rear higher than the front) gives a very noticeable impact on temperature. I forgot that for the CPU, there's this Intel Extreme Tuning program that can actually monitor the CPU temperature internally. I noticed that raising the rear allows the laptop to run cooler, as much as 5 degrees. Raising both the front and the back, but still leaving it slanted will give you even better results. Although, I also found out that you don't want to have this laptop's rear facing the wall, because after a short time, the laptop goes on full fan mode (despite having the rear raised). I suspect this is due to the fans below sucking up the hot air that was already blown out of from the rear, therefore recycled. I don't think this is an issue in air conditioned rooms, because I remember this only happens explicitly in my home (where it is really warm) and places without air conditioning, when facing the laptop near to the wall.

Update 20/3/2015
I've noticed that the fan kicks in more often these days, so there may be signs either the paste has settled, but may have dried, or just the matter of positioning the laptop. I'm still with the idea, raise all legs of the laptop, but with a higher-raised rear. The fact that in home, the laptop's vents blows directly to the wall with no escape probably doesn't help. But otherwise, the remarks I made earlier still stands, that the laptop is cool to the touch, except when the fan kicks in I know the heat dissipation is working.

4)	On the screen, at least this is how I look at it. Speaking about the panel, there are third parties that actually offer other panels. The unit that I have comes equipped with a factory default AUO TN panel, but its good for gaming due to its impressive response time. I probably won’t ever change this, since I prefer a low angle viewing (not too keen on others looking at my screen as well, so its washed out for them, and that’s good for me) As far as I know Illegear does not offer a different model of screens. The same goes for colour tuning. I was given a CD with the colour profile and frankly speaking, I’m impressed. (btw, some people may want to also introduce the information that Apple uses a 72%gamut screen on some of their laptops as well). Be warned though, if the screen is not a factory default, then your colour tuning (if you purchase from Illegear) may not work on your new screen.

5)	The speakers are adequate, as in its functional, but don’t expect it to be world class. However, I’ve been watching movies and videos with it, and I have no qualms whatsoever. I’ve played music with it, and I’m actually satisfied that it actually does has a bass, although it may be drowned out when you’re going beyond maximum volume (there’s a way, but I won’t recommend you doing that at all). I haven’t exactly heard anyone attempting to modify the speakers, but I suppose Onkyo will put in a better model with the same size in the future, and I’ll probably graft that one in. Tuning with the SoundBlaster Software will provide some good options. If you are still unsatisfied, the only way is to get a USB powered external soundcard. The new D5/D7 (based on Clevo P750ZM/770ZM) has similar looking speakers and subwoofers but perform marginally better, so I presume some people are going to go all out and transplant those Onkyo speakers from a D5/D7 into the RS-15.

Update 20/3/2015:

There's something odd about the built in mic (then again, there's nothing better than buying a proper USB powered recording microphone, that's podcast quality. It'll set you back RM300 or so), but eventually I found the root cause. The problem was there was no input, and I was using TeamSpeak3. Turns out that RealTek Audio HD combines all input as one, and you have to go to the advanced settings in RealTek HD Audio to select "separate all inputs", then the built in microphone works. I recommend separating them, and then choosing the mic input if you have a proper microphone. Note, the 2-in-1 mobile phone headsets won't work, although I believe this worked on my previous laptop (too lazy to open, since that one hangkang liao), but testing it with a proper microphone works, and confirms my suspicion that you should
* separate the input on Realtek, then manually selecting which input device
* check the microphone audio boost. By default its set to +20dB, which made it super sensitive. My wife was talking on her phone next room, the microphone actually picked up her chatter. That's how sensitive that is, when its set at +20dB.

6)	Keyboard. Much has to be said about keyboard. Some people are claiming that the mechanical keyboards are the best, because for writers they give the best tactile feedback (but then again, if you can type well on a touchscreen, I don’t even understand the argument about being obsessed with tactile feedback). My opinion? I can game and type long on this keyboard. This review was fully written on this keyboard which was on the RS-15. Key travels are good, and it has a 3 zone full RGB colour. I understood that this keyboard is different from the older P150SM models where they gave an island style chiclet keyboard (that some were claiming to be good since a fruit inspired company used that on their laptops). Though this isn’t the keyboard with the best bling-bling backlight (I’m looking at you, the P75xSM, which Team Illegear will introduce soon!), the customization on this keyboard can still put a shame on others. I’ve also known people who have bought an RS-15, and then went on to graft a Steelseries keyboard (the non-mechanical version) unto the RS-15. So where there is a will, there is a way. But I’m sticking with this keyboard first. Some may argue that keyboard ghosting appears on this laptop, but I haven’t seen any form of failure in gaming (at least on FPS, the wsad + shift + alt + space works, without the ghosting issue)

7)	The touchpad. Its functional, and its actually quite good. Its Synaptics, enough said. The fingerprint scanner works as well. Protip: Install a screen protector on the touchpad surface if you want a “smoother gliding” experience. (It’s smooth enough for me, but I’ve heard others complaint, and yet the solution is just that simple). <s>That said, it does not have fancy features like the double swipe to scroll, although windows 8 based gesture for menu (the one on the right) actually gets recognized. Funny little thing.</s>
Update: Apparently there was an update from Windows that was released, and I just downloaded it over a few days ago (as of week 3, January, 2015). Gestures now actually WORKS on this touchpad, such as PINCH-IN/PINCH OUT, DOUBLE FINGER SWIPES, swipe from right to open WINDOWS CHARMS

8)	The Illegear laptop bag is good and rugged, but somehow I still managed to overload it and tore the shoulder sling (surprisingly not due to weight) . That can be repaired (needs thicker stitches). But my first impression (and still is my impression) is that it has very good quality built. The design of the bag reminds me of those used by Canon for their DSLRs. Externally its black, internally it has blue felt for the cushioning and to make sure nothing gets scratched. Space is limited, but it IS a laptop bag. I managed to fit in the entire laptop, the power supply, the gaming mouse which I bought from Illegear (the Gigabyte M6900), and even a full fledged keyboard, and a few other things. IF I’m not mistaken the bag has a 13KG weight load rating, but I think I must have worn it incorrectly (loading stretched) since the straps ate into my shoulderblades (there’s a correct way of wearing bags) resulting in the tear at the joint for the sling to the bag. In any case I did order a new bag (not from Illegear, due to the fact that I need to use a 30+litre sized bag), but this will be lovely bag for my wife’s laptop (she loves the Illegear bag, apparently. The design is elegant for her tastes). At RM99, despite the small size this is a definite BUY and USE for me.

Update: Apparently I somehow accidentally made the laptop drop while it was in the bag, with sleeve, but not zipped, the laptop was secured and fastened, but because the bag was open it did directly got a knock. (from <s>chair</s> table / shelf / chest height) Nothing seems to be broken except the small hinge on the left side (which already came off, not sure how, but it did while in the sleeve, unrelated incident, and i snapped back in a few days ago ) Luckily it was in the Illegear bag / Everki Titan bag. Else, probably GG.COM

Update 2: As i've suspected, the laptop bag from Illegear does have superb weight rating, but don't physically overload it (as in cram in things to fullest). My wife has 1 small laptop and I've got my old Compaq, which we used the illegear bag, fitted without overloading (as in space, not weight) and despite the weight with all the chargers and all the strap did not break. So its going to be a repair session (just add more stitches LULZ) and Bob's your uncle.

Here are the pictures (these are taken by me)

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

[attachmentid=4303554]
The box came in like this
[attachmentid=4303553]
To my understanding this is Illegear's seal on the corners of the box. One part of it was opened, but I suppose its because of inspection.
[attachmentid=4303552]
Lots of foams in the box.
[attachmentid=4303549]
The bag came in wrapped. For a while silly me, I thought only the bag arrived.
[attachmentid=4303545]
A small bag, but very elegant design
[attachmentid=4303544]
The illegear logo, its not a sticker. Its stiched. Like embroidery
[attachmentid=4303543]
The illegear logo appearing on the metal zip
[attachmentid=4303540]
The power brick
[attachmentid=4303535]
The Gigabyte M6900 Mouse
[attachmentid=4303533]
The inside of the box
[attachmentid=4303531]
[attachmentid=4303529]There's the laptop
[attachmentid=4303526]
The Illegear laptop sleeve that I mentioned earlier in the review.
[attachmentid=4303524]
The rear panel which houses 3 ports, of which one is for HDMI
[attachmentid=4303523]
The laptop, in its glorious Gunmetal Grey. Notice that the stickers that are usually there are not there. Maybe there are stickers in the package, but I haven't seen them, but I prefer my custom painted laptop this way. Unassuming, and attracts lesser attention. Much more discreet. Then again, I'm a fan of stencil arts, so if I like it i'll put stencil art stickers and it'll be impactful on the gunmetal grey surface.
[attachmentid=4303522]
The LEDs are not painted, as I have been informed. Then again, does anyone else want their LEDs to be painted? (mine was gunmetal grey, so I don't think I want a gunmetal grey LED.
