Dell XPS 15 Vs. Dell XPS 15z

Hello there to LYN forumers!

I am a student which will be transferring to the United States to further my studies pretty soon and would like to purchase a laptop. I am currently looking for a 15'' laptop that would suit my daily usage. Budget is about RM4000-5000. This would be my first laptop so i have no experience with any others. From research and reviews only.

Main usage: 1) Browsing web
2) Microsoft powerpoint/word
3) Music & movies (Alot!)
4) Skype, Oovoo, etc.
5) Moderate to slight heavy gaming (Crysis, GTA, TF2)

Other 15'' Laptops that i would like to cancel out for me would be MacBook Pro. Out of my budget range, prefer windows interface, cannot connect to projector for presentation purposes, halfway through the ''Apple product cycle'', not so worth it to buy it now. Another would be Dell Alienware MX series. Not a hardcore gamer, abit too bulky for my liking.

So, all that i could come out with that suits my usage would be Dell XPS series. But now, i have a dilemma between the Dell XPS 15 and the Dell XPS 15z. Straight away i would pick the XPS 15z because it's a newer product than the normal/older XPS 15, excellent display quality and also a slimmer outlook design. But i am questioning the design & build quality of the XPS 15z. From reviews, it seems the chrome finish around the sides of the laptop is flimsy and would break easily (heard it breaks/comes off after less than a months usage!). Also, speaker quality lacks the JBL features and the bass quality would not be satisfactory. Another thing would be the undetachable/unreplacable battery. For desktop usage, I prefer to just plug in the power brick and remove battery, don't like the fact that i have to watch ever-so carefully on the battery life to maintain it's longevity when i'm charging (strong believer in the ''over-charge'', ''under-charge'' theory ).

Should i just stick with the older XPS 15? Or is the cons of the XPS 15z not significant enough to stop me from buying it?

Anyone here with better recommendations of other 15'' laptops or suggestions on my dilemma here? Thanks!

Microphone/speaker problem

When my microphone is on, the sound is then immediately heard through the speakers. It gets really annoying when using skype as you can hear yourself talking.

Cant seem to find the solution. Any ideas?
